Hi Geniac

Update
helow sir i dn't know how to update or create an article n wikipedia can you help me out please Mridul1112 (talk) 03:00, 20 January 2015 (UTC)
@Mridul1112:: To update an article, click the Edit button. To create an article, Wikipedia:Your first article is a great guide for new users. Is there something in particular you're trying to do? --Geniac (talk) 03:37, 20 January 2015 (UTC)

Re: removed comment on WP:ENB

Hi Geniac, just wanted to follow up on your comment you posted and then removed from the Education Noticeboard. At Wiki Ed, we all share your frustration around the classes that didn't go well last term, and I posted another update today about additional changes we've put in place to hopefully head off the majority of problems this term. With regard to your specific point about lack of editing experience on the part of the instructor, I want to share what we've learned. We've worked with more than 600 classes in the U.S. and Canada, very few of which were taught by instructors with extensive editing experience themselves. The vast majority of courses taught by instructors without extensive editing experience still add high-quality content to Wikipedia if they follow our guidelines; the trick is ensuring they *do* follow them, and that's where a handful of classes went awry last term. Does having an experienced editor teach a class help the student editors in that class succeed? Absolutely, but we've found it's not a prerequisite for successfully adding high-quality content to Wikipedia through a class assignment. --LiAnna (Wiki Ed) (talk) 20:19, 21 January 2015 (UTC)

@LiAnna (Wiki Ed): If instructor experience is such a non-concern, why is it a discussion point with instructors of large classes? (User:Helaine (Wiki Ed)/Course onboarding checklist).
My frustration is not just at lack of instructor experience, it's with with lack of discussion, addressing, or even acknowledgement that somebody might have a problem with a proposed course. My concern was completely ignored and overridden.
One of the course instructor rights requests I questioned was for this course. I see that it fails a few points of the Course onboarding checklist:
 • "The students will still be in the class for at least a week after they publish live article": On 4/27, sandboxes go live, which is the last class of the course.
 • "students working off-wiki to develop content": What does "Each group will turn in an MS Word outline (2 pages maximum) of their site." mean?
 • "does not address plagiarism and copyright violations": I see nothing in the timeline about an in-class discussion of these two topic, which have been ongoing issues with classes.
So why was this course given the greenlight? --Geniac (talk) 23:42, 21 January 2015 (UTC)
I absolutely agree that course is problematic — my staff has been working with the team at the University of Michigan on getting the assignment changed, as it clearly has flaws (the university librarian who's helping with the course is out of the office until Monday, though, so the changes haven't taken affect yet). The note about instructor's experience level is just what I said above — if the course is led by a very experienced editor, that's ideal, and it pretty much trumps any of the other considerations on the checklist. But those experienced editors who are also instructors are few, so the checklist is more for making sure classes taught by non-Wikipedian instructors follow best practices we've seen from our experience. --LiAnna (Wiki Ed) (talk) 01:49, 22 January 2015 (UTC)
So since it is this obvious there are problems with the course, why was it given the greenlight?
And if, as is evidently the case, a problematic course can be accepted without a pause, without discussion, without addressing or even acknowledgment of any obvious problems, why bother going through the dog and pony show of making instructors request course instructor rights? Why not just create a make a subpage, Wikipedia:Education noticeboard/Course instructor right requests, and grant rights to anybody able to sign their name? --Geniac (talk) 02:59, 22 January 2015 (UTC)
I'd rather have every class have a course page, so it's transparent to the community what is going on and so it's easier to track which users are editing from that class, than it is to have the instructor do the assignment anyway but without a course page (which is what happens when they aren't granted the instructor right). So we do our best to work with the instructors to make sure the assignment is good for Wikipedia. I agree with you that the current process for having to grant user rights to be transparent is pretty terrible, and as Sage commented here, we're hoping to replace the extension with a new system in the future. --LiAnna (Wiki Ed) (talk) 00:53, 24 January 2015 (UTC)

Alyson Leigh Rosenfeld

You said you removed some information from Alyson Leigh Rosenfeld. I am she and I only added facts about me that are, well, factual. Please advise. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kermitgal (talkcontribs) 00:17, 25 January 2015 (UTC)

@Kermitgal: Even if you're sure something is true, it must be verifiable before you can add it. The Self-published or questionable sources as sources on themselves section of Wikipedia's verifiability policy basically says that if something like a date of birth is published by the subject of an article through their own website or social media, then that may be used as a source for that information. I found this tweet which confirms a month and day of March 21, but no age or year of birth is stated. --Geniac (talk) 01:14, 25 January 2015 (UTC)

@Geniac here is my official IMDB with my birthday and year: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm3597590/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kermitgal (talkcontribs) 01:24, 25 January 2015 (UTC)

@Kermitgal: Sorry, but IMDb isn't acceptable because much of the information there is user-submitted. If you are Alyson Leigh Rosenfeld, and you have no problem with people knowing your date of birth, the easiest way of doing this would be to tweet the complete date including year, then we could use that as a source. --Geniac (talk) 01:37, 25 January 2015 (UTC)

@Geniac Great! Here it is: https://twitter.com/AlysonRosenfeld/status/559163664176283649 Thank you for your help, I really appreciate it! -- Kermitgal 01:41, 25 January 2015 (UTC)

Interview for The Signpost

This message is being sent to you as a member of WikiProject Death

The WikiProject Report would like to focus on WikiProject Death for a Signpost article. This is an excellent opportunity to draw attention to your efforts and attract new members to the project. Would you be willing to participate in an interview? If so, here are the questions for the interview. Just add your response below each question and feel free to skip any questions that you don't feel comfortable answering. Multiple editors will have an opportunity to respond to the interview questions, so be sure to sign your answers. If you know anyone else who would like to participate in the interview, please share this with them. Thanks, Rcsprinter123 (report) @ 19:47, 28 January 2015 (UTC)

One of the poorer project summaries on the projects that I have seen, pity there wasnt more substance to it, as the process of putting it together is much more than what shows up in the report... The current actives might have been yourself (?) or boneyard, but if i had noticed have put a totally different angle on it. Ol'Factory in a sense did more for the project than anyone, by creating wikipedia wide categories, but as he doesnt touch project space - a vast sea of red tagged talk page categories - he really deserve more than yourself or boneyard who came later - also polinossis's work on the portal should have been acknowledged. Oh well, thats wikipedia for you... satusuro 03:57, 6 February 2015 (UTC)

Project Ara page

I've placed the link to Project Ara community for developers at http://www.modularphonesforum.com. Why is it removed? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gunnaracm (talkcontribs) 19:01, 8 February 2015 (UTC)

@Gunnaracm:: I didn't remove that link from that article; Goldi187 did, so you should probably ask them. --Geniac (talk) 01:53, 9 February 2015 (UTC)

Hi Geniac -- You appear to have added a PoV tag to the article on D. Ramanaidu without explaining what the nature of the problem is. The subject has recently died, and the article is being considered for the "Recent Deaths" listing of "In the News" on the main page. I wonder if you could clarify what the remaining problems are on the article's talk page, or remove the tag if they've now been fixed. Many thanks! Espresso Addict (talk) 17:59, 18 February 2015 (UTC)

@Espresso Addict: POV has since improved slightly, but enough to remove the tag, so I have. --Geniac (talk) 22:47, 18 February 2015 (UTC)

Mahesh Babu

I have nothing posted wrong about maheshbabu in wikipedia. He is superstar of telugu cinema that everybody knows. And his movie 1:nenokkadine tops no.1 in IMDB. I dont know why you are removing my edit. And your turn. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nikhil789654 (talkcontribs) 13:24, 20 February 2015 (UTC)

@Nikhil789654: I don't know what you're talking about. I have only edited the Mahesh Babu article once, in this edit in 2011. --Geniac (talk) 22:03, 20 February 2015 (UTC)

Aas Mohammad

Thanks for catching https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Aas_Mohammad_Ali_khan_Abbasi.

He's very active. DENY would have us keep this even out of SPI at this point, not to mention the waste of resources examining and archiving the SPI each time. But, he's using lots of odd names and ways. Plus, we need to keep a record somewhere for a global lock. I just blocked 7 new ones today. How about we just keep a list at User:Anna Frodesiak/Orange sandbox and wait until there are lots and then file a big group at the SPI just for the record? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 01:42, 21 February 2015 (UTC)

Update:

We now have a global lock on all listed there up till now. We should still list future cases there for the occasional mass filing at the SPI. New items added to that list will be added to the global lock request page. This will help the folks at commons. They delete the images but will not have to do the blocks. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 02:17, 21 February 2015 (UTC)

Sounds good. He's a tricky one to catch because of the variety of usernames and the walled gardens of userpages he creates. --Geniac (talk) 02:43, 21 February 2015 (UTC)
Well, we can search quite well. I think it would be impossible for him to make promotional pages that aren't discovered. If he has any brains at all, he'll stop. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 05:18, 21 February 2015 (UTC)

Commons deletion nomination vs. speedy tagging

I noticed that you nominated rather than speedy tagged. The nomming does give the automatic notification to the uploader, but also creates the deletion request page. In this case, it is so uncontroversial that a speedy tag could really save resources, so is worth considering. I speedy tag all the time. Most of the time I notify the uploader, but in extreme cases, like this one I don't bother. Here is some of the stuff I use at commons from my junkbox:

Non-PD-Textlogo, so not permitted
Logo, so not allowed here. Permitted version at enwp.
Blatantly out of Commons:PS

reason

Your image upload(s)
Hello. I've nominated/tagged the following for deletion:

*:File:BUNNYBUNNY
*:File:BUNNYBUNNY
*:File:BUNNYBUNNY
*:File:BUNNYBUNNY

The file(s) appear to be a copyright violation. Please only upload images that you own. Thanks, ~~~~

The file(s) appear to be out of project scope. ~~~~
Mmmm... I see your point. Commons:Deletion policy#Out of scope says that files that very clearly fall outside of scope can be speedied. I'll do so. I have a similar collection of commonly used tags and edit summaries stored in a text file for easy copy-pasting. --Geniac (talk) 16:01, 21 February 2015 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for February 26

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Aruna Irani filmography, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Garam Masala (film). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Regarding Nusrat Jahan article

I tried to include some reliable references and I added them into the article....I'm sure about the authenticity of that, that's why I added. Still If you think that It should not be on the article, then You User:Geniac have right to delete it :) thank you.Suman420 (talk) 15:39, 4 March 2015 (UTC)

@Suman420: I only meant the unsourced date of birth. I did not review the references you added for other information. --Geniac (talk) 15:43, 4 March 2015 (UTC)
 • FYI: I re-created this article. I have no idea how it looked when it was deleted back in 2013, but...she has done notable things outside of pornography since then; for example, she is the first plus-size model to have appeared on the cover of Penthouse Forum. Erpert blah, blah, blah... 10:59, 7 March 2015 (UTC)
