iDempiere

Hello, I am quite new in the active Wikipedia community and I am not sure if this is the right place to discuss my issue. I saw you added the notability block to the iDempiere page some time ago. Because I am not so experienced I want to ask if you agree to remove this block after some people (including me) worked on the page. I still think the article can be made a bit better and I am sure the iDempiere commmunity will do it in the next months - but I think it has reached a state where I can remove the notability block. Hi Thomas! The best place to ask for comment on stuff like this is the Peer review page. Looking at the article now, it certainly looks like it has been very nicely fleshed out, but I am still not sure whether or not it meets the general notability guideline, so you might want to start a discussion over at the peer review page. And as for figuring out where to discuss things, one great place to start is the Village Pump. It has an index of where you should go for a variety of different issues (and asking someone for help on their talk page is also perfectly acceptable if you're not sure where to go!). Zuan Xin

Hi IagoQnsi this is Mathematicalist from Las Vegas. No worries on notability for Zuan Xin. Problem is the worldwide blackout of information about him and his team. My worry is that the article by DataDrivenOne is too technical. I am not Chinese but my Chinese friends get visibly upset when they find out that the solving of baccarat is being kept from them. Let Zuan Xin Article Be

Dear IagoQnsi please let the Zuan Xin article be. I know your intentions are good but you do not know this subject matter. You are helping the lowest of the lowest parasites by helping the casino and gambling companies perpetuate the myth that baccarat is a game of luck. So many people that I know are hopelessly obsessed baccarat gambling addicts who have no idea that baccarat is a game of skill not a game of luck. Their families suffer, their suffering is real as real can be. So I say again dear IagoQnsi please let the Zuan Xin article be. It is in the spirit of Wikipedia. It is for the people not the corporate interests. There must be some other article that you can put your efforts on. The best substantiation possible is there. You really cannot expect a casino executive to go on the record saying Zuan Xin has indeed solved baccarat and thereby risk ostracism from his profession, can you? You really cannot expect a journalist in East Asia in the wake of the Kevin Lau meat cleaver maiming in Hong Kong to tell all the Chinese people that baccarat is solved and risk his or her very life, can you? Thanks for being a good Wikipedian and not a subverter of Wikipedia paid for and tasked by corporate interests in this case the casino and gambling interests. I like you am very busy so please just let this article be. Most of the casino and gambling related articles with respect to the table games and slot machines are biased to manipulate gamblers to lose more money that they cannot afford to lose. It is as if the casino and gambling interests wrote these articles themselves and defend them with their paid Wikipedia scanners and pseudo editors. The purpose of all my edits is to help Wikipedia be the best it can be. If I see an article with a lot of problems that need to be addressed, I am obliged to take action to address those issues. Wikipedia articles must contain verifiable content. Even if it is true that the secret of baccarat is being concealed from the public, Wikipedia is not the place where such revelations should be made. I have no interest in stopping the spread of this information or anything to that effect. I am just here to try to enforce Wikipedia policy. By placing maintenance tags on an article, I am not trying to hinder you or even necessarily to have the article deleted; I am simply trying to make note of issues with the article. Maintenance templates do not stop anyone from seeing the article, and they do not mean your article is going to be deleted necessarily, so removing them from your article without resolving their concerns is both unnecessary and disruptive. -IagoQnsi 01:14, 10 April 2014 (UTC)

Just to let you know, I went ahead and closed The Nahun AfD you recently opened following its speedy deletion by Bbb23 as an uncontroversial A7. For future reference, you don't have to worry about dragging an article all the way to AfD if it's the author who is opposing the CSD nomination; the creator of an article cannot legitimately contest a speedy deletion tag, as that would constitute a pretty obvious conflict of interest. In cases like that, feel free to reapply the tag and a sysop will surely come around to tackle the job (like they did here, for instance). :-) Kurtis ^(talk) 01:26, 12 April 2014 (UTC)

The same applies to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tom's Shoes for Composition II; the article is a pretty clear-cut case of A10, so I can pretty much guarantee that an administrator will be deleting it in a minute or two. By the way, kudos to you for taking up new page patrol. We could always use some extra hands in the area, especially those that show consideration for the people who create articles. Thanks for the information! Do I need to change something now or can I just leave it. I was trying to figure this out and it seemed that since I was the only one who had edited or written on the page and only had just submitted it moments ago that it would be fine. Given that the original article only had three edits (only one of which was non-trivial), all made by you, I think it's totally fine to ignore the rule in this case and just leave things the way they are. Where there is no pressing need for deletion (ie, it doesn't meet one of the general criteria, in particular G10 and G12), it's usually a good idea to leave it for a little while to see if the author makes further improvements—deletion tags, especially when applied very shortly after an article's creation, are one of the most off-putting things to new editors and are believed to be a major factor in Wikipedia's problems with editor retention. Those look like some pretty solid sources. It's debatable, but I think it's a pretty good candidate for meeting the guidelines. You might want to look at the notability guidelines specifically for academics. Also, the links in your article lend credence to notability, but the notability should also be established in the article itself -- write about what he's done that those articles indicate. In the article God of Abrahem Isaac and Jacob, The Bang Theory (scientific) is only explained in the article. It does not contests the theory but is used to explain a point. @Ueutyi: Sorry about that, wasn't sure if you'd be revising it. When people have as many edits as you do, they tend to be using drafts/sandboxes, and usually I don't see them editing the page after their initial page creation (plus, I know they're not newcomers, so I'm less concerned about WP:BITE). How can you want to delete an article that just is in work about 30 minutes? Do you think that someone can give you respect for your way of professional work? @Nature024: Hi Nature. If you would like to spend a considerable amount of time working on a new article, it is recommended that you do so in your personal sandbox, so that the article is not subject to criticism or deletion until you are ready for it to be viewed. When you start an article outside of your sandbox, it is standard for the article to face deletion after thirty minutes or so of being empty. Click here to learn more about writing your first article.

Also, before you go contacting administrators about my actions, you should know that your article actually was deleted by an administrator, as seen in this deletion log. Too-speedy speedy tagging

Thanks for patrolling new pages, a vital and under-appreciated task, but please don't tag newly created articles with WP:CSD#A1 or WP:CSD#A3 too soon after creation. While things like copyright violations and attack pages need to be tagged at once, new contributors often put in a word or two and then click "Save page" to see how it looks: it is discouraging and BITEy if a speedy-deletion template pops up at once. For incomplete articles like Jovani oviedo just now, you should make a note of the title and wait at least 10 - 15 minutes before tagging. See {{uw-hasty}}.

Thanks for finding that Observer article -- the one you mentioned in AFD:Dr. Shimi Kang. I'll be referring to it often at AfD.

But just a caution: I now work primarily on screening new articles, and as an administrator reviewed tens of thousands of them for deletion. I could not possibly go at the rate you are going and do the work accurately, nor do I know of anyone who could. And I find that if I do more than 10 in a row, or so, that I tend to lose the ability to discriminate. The best way to avoid becoming jaded is to take a few a day , and fix them. Anyway I've had to revert and reclose the AFD you closed as you never added the AFD footer so it buggers up the log,

Without any additional details, I'd say it's link spamming because it's the owner of a website inserting a link to his own website on a tangentially related article. @HappyValleyEditor: Looks like the horse was added by a second editor, and otherwise the page is perfectly kind to Billings. Maybe they had some innocent reason why they thought that was okay? It's not explicitly clear that the editor was trying to attack with that image, so I'm assuming good faith. A HUGE backlog

We now have 819 New Page Reviewers!
Most of us requested the user right at PERM, expressing a wish to be able to do something about the huge backlog, but the chart on the right does not demonstrate any changes to the pre-user-right levels of October.

Hitting 17,000 soon

The backlog is still steadily growing at a rate of 150 a day or 4,650 a month. Only 20 reviews a day by each reviewer over the next few days would bring the backlog down to a managable level and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
It didn't work in time to relax for the Xmas/New Year holidays. Let's see if we can achieve our goal before Easter, otherwise by Thanksgiving it will be closer to 70,000.

2. this case in January of paid advertising by a Reviewer, also resulting in a community ban.
3. This Reviewer is indefinitely blocked for sockpuppetry.

Coordinator election

@GWFrog: Per WP:USERNOCAT, user pages are not allowed to have categories intended for content pages. When you use content categories on a user page, everyone sees your page when they visit those categories -- it doesn't just affect your page. @GWFrog: Alright, sorry, I won't edit your pages again. I've never had anyone complain over simply removing categories that weren't allowed to be there anyway. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. twitter controversies

I've gone ahead and removed a section you added to Markus Persson. As far as I can tell, the twitter controversies mentioned were very brief and did not substantially contribute to the notability of the individual in question - in particular, it seems to be more akin to a trivia factoid list, and did not pass wp:sustained. @BrxBrx: I would argue that there is sustained coverage. Persson has an ongoing pattern of tweeting political/social opinions that cause controversy. Each individual tweet may not be notable on its own, but as a series, it warrants mentioning. The Daily Dot "pizzagate" article and Inverse "ok to be white" article, for example, both call back to the "straight pride" tweets and describe the latest tweets as part of an ongoing history with Persson. The wording in the section perhaps needs to change to put the focus on the broader trend rather than on each individual incident, but I do think the content is still worth covering. -IagoQnsi (talk) 22:37, 6 February 2018 (UTC)

@BrxBrx: Not to mention, the notability guidelines are for establishing what topics get their own articles, not for deciding precisely what bits of info will be included in an article. • Now that ACTRIAL is inoperative pending discussion, please be sure to look for tell-tale signs of undisclosed paid editing. Contact the creator if appropriate, and submit the issue to WP:COIN if necessary.

• More compromise (and thanks again for the kind message and notifications!), i tried to reduce the usage of words like - in this case - "Josu" or "club" in the same paragraph, but your wording remained pretty much unaltered, thanks for the additions. In reference #8, as the author of the article works for the official website of the club, with just the "publisher" field we are covered i believe. Regarding the team's run in the LH Cup, i feel it's always important to have two links, one for competition and the other for SEASON of competition; hope that makes sense.

Recent changes

• The parameter for unpatrolled edits in recent changes filters changed name. You might need to update saved filters and links. [1]

Problems

• We are migrating wikis from Tidy to Remex. Because of a bug the 250 wikis which do not yet use Remex were switched on 23 April. This is two months early. This meant that pages with broken wikitext showed wrongly to readers. The bug was undone the next day. You can help fix broken wikitext to avoid this problem when your wiki switches. Tidy will be removed on all wikis before July 2018. You can follow the process on Phabricator. [2]

Changes later this week

• You will be able use CodeMirror in the 2017 wikitext editor on all wikis. CodeMirror helps with syntax highlighting. It has previously been a beta feature and only available on wikis with scripts that are written from left to right. [3]
• When an administrator blocks someone they will have a calendar they can use to choose when the block ends. This is to make it easier to pick a specific date. [4]
• You can soon turn on the Performance Inspector in the Editing section in your preferences. It shows information about the performance of pages. This could be the size of modules in the page, how many CSS selectors are defined on the page and how many are used, or the size of the images on the page. This tool is intended to help editors fix pages that load slowly. [5]
• There is a new abuse filter function called equals_to_any. You can use it to check if its first argument is equal (===) to any of the following ones. For example you can use it to check if the page's namespace is amongst a given set of values in a more compact way than you could earlier. You can read more on mediawiki.org.
• The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 1 May. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 2 May. It will be on all wikis from 3 May (calendar).

• All wikis with fewer than 100 high-priority linter errors in all namespaces will switch to use the Remex parsing library. This is to replace Tidy. It will happen on 2 May. Other wikis will be recommended to switch soon when they have fixed the errors that must be fixed. Wikibooks wikis with fewer than 100 high-priority linter errors in the main namespace will switch on 9 May. Tidy will be removed on all wikis before July 2018. [6][7][8]

Recent changes

• The Wikimedia Commons mobile app has a new version. It is now easier to find nearby places that need pictures. It helps you with direct uploads and title and category suggestions. The app only works on Android phones. [9]

Problems

• The abuse filters had a problem with blocks where you had changed how long they last. It used the default length everywhere. This was in late April. Abuse filter users should make sure the right block length is used and change them if needed. This is only for filters where how long blocks last had been changed. [10]

Changes later this week

• The advanced search function beta feature will be on all Wikimedia wikis. It makes it easier to use some of the special search functions that most editors don't know exist. [11]
• The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 8 May. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 9 May. It will be on all wikis from 10 May (calendar).

Future changes

• All wikis with fewer than 100 high-priority linter errors in the main namespace will switch to use the Remex parsing library. This is to replace Tidy. It will happen on 16 May. Other wikis will switch soon when they have fixed the errors that must be fixed. Tidy will be removed on all wikis before July 2018. [12][13]

• Dynamic maps are now available on most Wikipedias. Labels on maps can also be in different languages.
• The new Advanced Search interface is now available as a Beta Feature on all wikis. This makes it easier to learn about and to use many of the powerful options in our search. Feedback is appreciated. [14]

ACTRIAL:

• WP:ACREQ has been implemented. The flow at the feed has dropped back to the levels during the trial. However, the backlog is on the rise again so please consider reviewing a few extra articles each day; a backlog approaching 5,000 is still far too high. An effort is also needed to ensure that older unsuitable older pages at the back of the queue do not get automatically indexed for Google.

Deletion tags

• Do bear in mind that articles in the feed showing the trash can icon may have been tagged by inexperienced or non NPR rights holders. They require your further verification.

Backlog drive:

• A backlog drive will take place from 10 through 20 June. Check out our talk page at WT:NPR for more details. NOTE: It is extremely important that we focus on quality reviewing. Despite our goal of reducing the backlog as much as possible, please do not rush while reviewing.

Editathons

• There will be a large increase in the number of editathons in June. Please be gentle with new pages that obviously come from good faith participants, especially articles from developing economies and ones about female subjects. Consider using the 'move to draft' tool rather than bluntly tagging articles that may have potential but which cannot yet reside in mainspace.

Paid editing - new policy

• Now that ACTRIAL is ACREQ, please be sure to look for tell-tale signs of undisclosed paid editing. Contact the creator if appropriate, and submit the issue to WP:COIN if necessary. There is a new global WMF policy that requires paid editors to connect to their adverts.

Subject-specific notability guidelines

• The box at the right contains each of the subject-specific notability guidelines, please review any that are relevant BEFORE nominating an article for deletion.
• Reviewers are requested to familiarise themselves with the new version of the notability guidelines for organisations and companies.

Not English

• A common issue: Pages not in English or poor, unattributed machine translations should not reside in main space even if they are stubs. Please ensure you are familiar with WP:NPPNE. Check in Google for the language and content, tag as required, then move to draft if they do have potential.

News

• Development is underway by the WMF on upgrades to the New Pages Feed, in particular ORES features that will help to identify COPYVIOs, and more granular options for selecting articles to review.
• The next issue of The Signpost has been published. The newspaper is one of the best ways to stay up to date with news and new developments. between our newsletters.

Recent changes

• You can now use global preferences on most wikis. This means you can set preferences for all wikis at the same time. Before this you had to change them on each individual wiki. Global preferences will come to the Wikipedias later this week. [16][17]
• It is now easier for blocked mobile users to see why they were blocked. [18]
• Wikidata now supports lexicographical data. This helps describe words.
• There is now a checkbox on Special:ListUsers to let you see only users in temporary user groups. [19]
• Some rare invisible Unicode characters have recently been banned from page titles. This includes soft hyphens (U+00AD) and left-to-right (U+2066) and right-to-left (U+2067) isolate markers. Existing pages with these characters will soon be moved by a script. [20]
• There's a new Wikimedia Foundation team to support the Wikimedia technical communities. It's called the Technical Engagement team. Most of the team members did similar work in other teams before this. [21]

Problems

• Some translatable pages are showing old translations instead of latest ones. The cause of this issue has been fixed. We will update all pages automatically to show the latest translations. [22]

Changes later this week

• There will be a new special page named PasswordPolicies. This page gives information about the password rules for each user group on that wiki. [23]
• A new way to see moved paragraphs in diffs is coming to most wikis. This is to make it easier to find the moved paragraphs and the changes in them. [24]
• The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 29 May. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 30 May. It will be on all wikis from 31 May (calendar).
• Wikis can enable Citoid to provide automatic reference look-up in the visual editor and the 2017 wikitext editor. This is complex. The tool will now disable itself if the configuration isn't correct. It has warned about this in the JavaScript console since February. Check that your wiki is configured correctly. You can ask for help if you need it. [25]

• Some wikis will switch to use the Remex parsing library. This is to replace Tidy. It will happen on 30 May and 13 June. Wikis with fewer than 100 linter issues in the main namespace in all high-priority linter categories will switch. This includes Wikidata. Tidy will probably be removed on all wikis in the first week of July. [28][29]

Recent changes

• The MonoBook skin has been optimised for mobile devices. It now looks different. [30]
• Planet Wikimedia collects blogs about Wikimedia. It will now use the Rawdog feed aggregator to do this instead of Planet. [31][32]
• Redirect links in Special:WhatLinksHere now link to the original page and not the target page. This was done earlier and changed the used messages on some pages. This was a problem for wikis that customized the message. A new change fixed this by using the old messages with one more parameter for customization. Wikis that already changed their customized messages will have to move the customization back again. [33]

Problems

• You will not be able to edit some wikis between 06:00 and 06:30 UTC on 13 June. You can see if your wiki is one of them.
• MassMessage did not work 24–28 May. This is also why last week's Tech News was late. [34]

Recent changes

• In the Wikipedia app for Android or iOS users can create reading lists. The reading lists can be seen on different devices if you are logged in to your account. There is now a browser extension so you can add pages to your reading list from a web browser. At the moment it works with Firefox and Chrome. [37]
• There is a new version of Pywikibot. Pywikibot is a tool to automate tasks on MediaWiki wikis. [38]

Problems

• The MonoBook skin was changed to make it work better for mobile users. This caused some problems. The change was rolled back to fix them. The new version is now back on the wikis. MonoBook users can opt out from the new responsive design. [39]

Changes later this week

• The new filters for edit review tools and interface for watchlists will leave beta. For most wikis this will happen on 18 June. For the rest it will happen on 25 June. [40][41]

• The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 12 June. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 13 June. It will be on all wikis from 14 June (calendar).
