Can I ask you to create a new profile for a professional soccer player who has recently joined Forward Madison FC) (Philipp Marceta)

I wanted to comment on your post about Bryan Ciesiulka and Jacob Bushue being deleted. Both are rookies and have signed professional contracts. The team starts its season in a month. Both players are linked on the teams wikipedia page, St. Louis FC. Both players have cited links on their pages detailing the contracts they have signed with Saint Louis. Right, so you believe 96.249.10.132 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) and 174.48.102.195 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) are the same? They could be, but as one is from New York and the other from Florida I doubt it, unless they have travelled. However, they could be two editors working together. As for your "BS" edit summary - yes, not ideal, but I'm sure you won't repeat it. GiantSnowman 16:24, 14 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, 96.236.54.105 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) is no doubt the same as 96.249.10.132 - any vandalism simply revert, warn, and report. GiantSnowman 18:42, 14 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Fabian Castillo - Deisgnated Player[edit]

I understand the ESPN article saying Castillo would be only a DP for one year, but at the time that article was written, the young designated player rule did not exist. MLS still lists Fabian Castillo as a DP because he is considered a young "DP" (who's cap hit is under the 350k for a normal DP, but his salary + transfer fee is above the cap hit of a young DP for his age category.) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Prizby (talkcontribs) 16:14, 22 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I never intentially/knowingly touched/changed Sharlie. MLS press box is a media sourced used by media covering MLS updated by MLS themselves. I am pretty sure the league would know who their DP's are and are not...at least I'd hope they would Prizby (talk) 02:52, 23 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Juninho Pernambucano-Message for Mikemor92.[edit]

Hi ;)

I don,t wanna start directly with "why did you change" or "why did you do this",I think it would be nicer if I start with: "How are you"? I know you were changing my information about Juninho,s career and I know those information are correct, but in the other hand we can,t denied that my information our incorrect,I,m following Juninho since he start playing Lyon and trust me. I was watching almost all Juninho games in Lyon shirt,Al Gharafa,Vasco da Gama return and now in New York Red Bulls, now Juninho plays for New York Red Bulls, his debut for New York Red Bulls happend in 7th February against Malmo FF,Juninho played 36minutes,he scored first goal for New York Red Bulls against New England Revolution in the end they lost 3:1. So far Juninho played 5games for New York Red Bulls scoring 1goal and made 1assistance,today we can expect his debut in MLS against Portland Timbers.

PS:I decided to write a little/basic information for every Juninho games in New York Red Bulls t-shirt.

Thank you and have a nice day.Juninhoslo (talk) 22:04, 3 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Problem[edit]

Hello, as you have noticed by now I have been creating some MLS articles for new players and for some reason when you see the article all you find is the infobox and intro. I also just noticed that you asked why I keep doing that instead of adding the ref and templates and the rest of the information. Well here is the reason: I actually do add the rest. For some reason when I click save it does not appear. Now I will admit I have been going to fast when it comes to creating these articles. I do miss some details out but I do make sure to add the reference (mainly to the match-center on MLSsoccer.com), the squad template, the categories, statistics box, and a section for a little biography. I base it off my little template which I created for myself here (of course it is modified when creating the player page to fit the league and nation of the player). So basically, I don't know what has been happening as this is a problem that only occurred now. I am hoping that I can fix it today as I bet there are more pages to be created soon.

And also good job with your work, going through literally every player and updating that player. It is something that I never see when it comes to Japanese, Korean, and Aussie soccer. Good to see someone taking the initiative. Anyway if you have anything else to tell me then don't be afraid to go to my talk page. Cheers. --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 00:28, 4 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Player statistics[edit]

You put all of your player statistics for the Sounders under 2012 for their match yesterday (which is part of 2013). Just add a new row to the career statistics table next time. SounderBruce 04:36, 4 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Oh. I only saw the huge wall of edits and clicked on Caskey (by random chance)...unlucky. Thanks for updating the players, though. SounderBruce 05:32, 4 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Deletions[edit]

Hi. You deleted some parameters at the Nate Freiman article. Including parameters for death date, death place, final team, final year, stats, HOF, etc. I don't see any edit summary. Was wondering why. Thanks.--Epeefleche (talk) 02:54, 4 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You can keep your responses here, so the conversation is in one place, and easier for all to follow. Those parameters are appropriate. We keep them in the infobox because: a) they do no harm; and b) they will be there for if/when they are to be filled out, such as when the person dies; and c) there is not a good reason to delete them once another editor has put them in. I would appreciate it if you would put them back in. thanks. PS -- thanks as well for being so quick to update the ibox with the additions.--Epeefleche (talk) 04:19, 4 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
For as long as I've done work on baseball pages, we don't keep those stuff on there. – Michael 04:22, 4 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It's not baseball-specific. There is nothing particular about baseball in this regard. It is a project-wide issue. And for as long as I've done work on baseball pages, which is even a couple of years longer (and I've been editing the project for 80,000 more edits or so), my experience has been the opposite of yours. And it makes no sense. It uses up zero space in the article. And is there for when he dies. Etc. Saving the work of adding it back then. So, I'll reiterate my request, unless you can point me to something that says you should be deleting other editors' additions in this regard. Thanks.--Epeefleche (talk) 04:36, 4 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'll ping a sysop whom I recall has had views on the subject of deleting as-yet-unused parameters -- such as date of death for a living person -- from parameters. Also, Jweiss, who has over 100k edits and edits many sports articles. Perhaps he will share his views. And I think Baseball Bugs has also spoken to the issue in the past. We could always ping him.--Epeefleche (talk) 04:50, 4 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Epeefleche, thanks for dropping me a line. A good chunk of my editing concerns college sports coaches. I've done a lot of work to develop Template:Infobox college coach and make use of it often. My practice is to always include all fields. My feeling is that this promotes consistent usage and formatting of the infobox, and makes updating and expansion of the article more efficient. Jweiss11 (talk) 06:32, 4 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Well you do have a point Jweiss, but when I started editing on Wikipedia, including all fields didn't seem to be in everybody's interests so I pretty much just followed their path. – Michael 06:37, 4 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, guys, I also work extensively with player and coach infoboxes, overlapping many of the same areas as Jweiss. I have a somewhat difference perspective on the inclusion of unused template fields than Jweiss does, staking out what I believe to be the sensible middle ground. I'll provide two examples:

1. Infobox college coach -- Transcluded on over 17,000 articles, this infobox is used for coaches of football, basketball, baseball, and most other college sports. Most of its fields are generally applicable to all sports; some are sport specific, including links to external websites such College Football Data Warehouse, the College Football Hall of Fame, the Basketball Hall of Fame, as well as "bowl record" and "tournament record" which have uses for some sports and not others. My preferred manner of completing this infobox template is to include all unused parameters that are currently used or likely to be used in the future (e.g., date of death, place of death), but to omit those that are certain never to be used (e.g., the basketball hall of fame parameter for a retired football coach).

2. Infobox NFL player -- Transcluded on over 11,000 articles, this infobox is used for players of American professional football, and it is in the process of being modified to be used as the sole infobox for NFL coaches, too. It is one of the largest infobox templates on Wikipedia, with over 90 fields and numerous options to cover players who have played in the NFL, AFL, CFL, USFL and various arena leagues, as well as coaching options, and statistical options. The likelihood that all optional parameters will every be used for any single article is virtually nil. In a similar manner to my take on the college coach infobox above, I include those unused parameters that are certain to be used in the future (e.g., place of death, date of death), but do not include those unused parameters that are unlikely to apply (e.g., coaching options for retired players) or will never apply (e.g., CFL and arena options for retired players who played exclusively for NFL teams). I also always include those fields for the infobox photo, image size, caption and alt text description because there is a strong likelihood these fields will be used at some point. The NFL player infobox also includes several options that are no longer used after the player's retirement (e.g., current team, roster status), and I delete these upon the player's retirement. Including all 90+ fields of the template in individual uses, when fewer than 20 are typically used in any given instance is both impractical and confusing to most users. When 60+ of the fields are unused, and likely never to be used, it's also an invitation to inappropriate experimentation by inexperienced editors and vandalism by others.

I view my approach as the "common sense" perspective in deciding which unused parameters to include. On this point, Jweiss and I disagree. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 07:47, 4 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Dirt -- let's focus on the issue at hand. The specific parameters deleted from the Nate Freiman article. (I'm not sure its worth a quibble here as to whether there are any common sense exceptions, if that point does not apply to these deletions.)
All of the deletions in the Nate Freiman article were, as now more clearly indicated, to parameters such as death date, death place, final team, final year, stats, HOF, etc. Deleting those parameters, already entered into an article, is unhelpful. Such deletions will only lead to additional unnecessary work by editors -- once a person dies, etc. -- and will lower the chance that once the person dies any editor will think to add the info to the infobox. The same goes for deleting such parameters from Persondata.--Epeefleche (talk) 15:21, 4 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Epeefleche, in direct answer to your more limited question, no, the death date, death place, final year, final team parameters should not be deleted from Infobox NFL player (or Infobox MLB player in your example), even when they are presently unused. All such parameters are certain to be used in the future, as I alluded to above. The stats parameters are somewhat more interesting. The skill positions will often use four to six of the maximum of six stat parameters; lineman rarely use more than three. When it is obvious that the particular player will use fewer than the maximum number of six stats parameters, I will typically trim the two or three unused ones as a space-saving measure. Hope that clarifies what I consider best practice. Other opinions may vary. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 18:43, 4 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks on the first part of your response. As to the second part -- you are again perhaps leading the discussion away on a tangent that does not apply to the case at hand. This is a baseball player -- not a football player -- and it's not obvious as to how many stat parameters he will use.--Epeefleche (talk) 19:12, 4 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I would think the bottom-line question is, what is the benefit to such deletions, and what is the detriment? If a given template parameter has never been used in any article, it would seem to be unneeded. But unless it clutters up the appearance of the article to have empty parameters, why mess with it? ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 22:08, 4 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Epee, it's my understanding that many baseball editors limit their use of the stats parameters of Infobox MLB player to the so-called "triple crown" stats, although I have seen repeated threads on the WikiProject Baseball talk page regarding this particular issue. You may want to raise the issue there to gauge current consensus on point. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 23:12, 4 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It varies. Some baseball editors also limit their editing to not filling in persondata. Practice follows interest, in some regard. Nobody is required to edit any parameter -- persondata included. There are a number of stat parameters. It is rare if not unheard of for an article to go beyond the template number. But certainly where an editor is known for stolen bases, slugging percentage, etc., it would be appropriate to reflect that, and you will see it. Good editors apply good common sense. What Mike has done is delete all manner of parameter that is not yet used -- that is the issue we are discussing in this string -- including empty death date, death place, final team, final year, stats, HOF. I've asked him to restore them, various editors have weighed in (three with more than 80,000 edits, who edit many sports articles, and have done so for many years). I'm just waiting for Mike to revert himself as I've requested, since his argument for deleting those parameters was that we delete blank parameters on sports articles.
Once again -- so I make clear what the point is, and the conversation is not misdirected on a tangent -- the point of this string relates to Mike's deletion of empty parameters for death date, death place, final team, final year, stats, HOF, etc at the Nate Freiman page. As I see it, there is pretty much unanimous response to his assertion that this is normal, that it is not. If editors start doing this to infoboxes and persondata, that will be a problem for thousands of boxes.--Epeefleche (talk) 04:22, 5 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Kupono Low[edit]

According to the rules we use on Wikipedia:WikiProject Football Kupono Low, having been capped three times for Puerto Rico, is a Puerto Rican player, even if he is no longer eligible to play for them. If you would like to discuss that at the project, feel free to, but please don't edit either his club article or player article until consensus has been achieved. Re: I have a question for you....[edit]

Well first of all I don't think this would be a soccer problem on wikipedia considering that we are the only soccer league in the world that actually has a draft. Secondly, overall I like the idea. Both the NBA and MLS have drafts and if it works for the NBA (which is what it looked like) then why not MLS. My only concern/question is this: With the NBA it is easy. Yes, they draft both college players and foreign based guys but it is all under 1 draft. Here in MLS we have 4 different drafts. How would we go about this? --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 02:33, 29 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Recent edits on football/soccer articles - re[edit]

Actually, they are to be removed per the categorization guidelines. You see, the state specific cats are sub/child cats of Category:American soccer players by state, which is in turn a sub/child cat of Category:American soccer players. Thus, when they are moved to the state cat, they are in the parent cat. "A page or category should rarely be placed in both a category and a subcategory or parent category (supercategory) of that category", and that cat is not a non-diffusing category, thus the players should only go into one. This is the reason why Category:American players of American football has so few articles, because they have been properly moved into the sub/child category. Youth years[edit]

You wrote: high school teams are not to be included in the infobox. Template indicates that it is "a list of clubs that the player was a member of as a youth, one per attribute, earliest to latest." High school teams appear to qualify. I didn't revert, but would be interested in this precedent, particularly when European youth development teams are displayed when the players are the same age as North American high schoolers. Walter Görlitz (talk) 06:50, 11 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Per your recent edit at James Kiffe, I'm also interested in learning more about this. Is this some sort of set precedent you are following and can you point me towards it? Thanks,
GauchoDude (talk) 22:44, 12 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
"The youth section is for youth/college teams only." - A high school team is seemingly by definition a youth team as (essentially) every member is U18. To play devil's advocate, I'd make the point that a collegiate team shouldn't be recognized as (essentially) every member is over 18. If you're legally an adult (in the United States), I don't see how it can be classified as part of a "youth career". I recognize that very, very recently at the extreme upper eshcelons, the elite-level players are steering clear of playing with their high schools to play with youth academies due to recent restrictions upon having to pick and choose one or the other coupled with the increasing presence of youth academies. However, that doesn't change the status of high school soccer being youth.
"Unless there was consensus reached about high school teams that I didn't know about, they don't count as youth." - Actually based on the above, I'd like to see the consensus that shows that high school doesn't count as youth. Surely you must be referring to some sort of Wikipedia Manual of Style so please point me in that direction so I can educate myself.
Thanks in advance for your assistance and I look forward to reading more about this.

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited United States men's national under-17 soccer team, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Niigata (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Opting in to VisualEditor[edit]

As you may know, VisualEditor ("Edit beta") is currently available on the English Wikipedia only for registered editors who choose to enable it. Since you have made 100 or more edits with VisualEditor this year, I want to make sure that you know that you can enable VisualEditor (if you haven't already done so) by going to your preferences and choosing the item, "MediaWiki:Visualeditor-preference-enable". This will give you the option of using VisualEditor on articles and userpages when you want to, and give you the opportunity to spot changes in the interface and suggest improvements. We value your feedback, whether positive or negative, about using VisualEditor, at Wikipedia:VisualEditor/Feedback. Thank you, Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 18:27, 11 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Grant Kerr[edit]

Hey, it seems that Kerr's page has been modified again to include fraudulent info like playing in Fredrikstad or scoring goals for Digenis (statistics on the Cypriot FA site show 0 goals for him that season). I'm rather new to this, so is there any way to prevent those edits from happening and revert the page, because there seems to be a conflict of interest with the player himself possibly trying to make himself look better. Forgotten NASL and USL Pro players[edit]

Hey, I was bored so I decided to make a quick list of current NASL and USL Pro players who are notable but who have not been given a page yet. I barely have time so if you want to create a few the list is here. Cheers (PS: I reserve the right to create Gagandeeps because... ya... reasons). --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 04:10, 4 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ha, I know. Like I said, I was bored and made this list quickly. I probably would have seen, via sources, that he had a "Z" instead of an "S" when creating. Eitherway, it is fixed so no point talking on about it. Cheers. --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 05:26, 4 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I just had a quick look at half of them and other than the fact that some of them might be in need of an update or revamp to remain consistent with the rest of the league I did not really notice what was wrong... then I looked at the Arsenal F.C. squad template and others and I now realize what you meant. Anyway, I don't mind taking on the job, will update you later. Cheers. --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 02:13, 6 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, just popped by to say sorry for not being active in the NASL/USL Pro template discussions. Fredy Montero[edit]

If you look the info box lists Montero as having played 14 games for Sporting CP, which is accurate. I merely changed the goals from 13 to 16 to reflect the fact that he has scored 16 goals in the 14 games used in the info box, not 13. This edit was based on the very information displayed in the statistics further down the page. I believe my edit was constructive and you should revert it back to what I wrote. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.94.156.207 (talk) 18:39, 9 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

As to your assertion that the info box is only to contain stats from league games, very well. But the info box currently states that Montero has played in 14 games. Further down the page the statistics note that he has only played in 12 league games. If that statistic is accurate, than the number of games played in the info box should be changed from the 14 currently represented to the actual number of league games played, with that number being 12. This is where my confusion arose, if the number of games being represented in the info box was representing the total number of games, rather than simply the number of league games played, than I felt the number of goals should be amended to reflect total goals as opposed to strictly league goals. But since you've made it clear that the info box is for league stats only, the number of games played should clearly be amended. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.94.156.207 (talk) 00:10, 10 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Josh Ford (soccer)[edit]

Good evening Mikemor,

I wanted to respond to you edit summary when you nominated this article for deletion. Once speedy deletion has been declined, the article should not be renominated (at least not under the same guideline). This is called Admin shopping and is generally frowned upon. What I've found useful in cases like this is to appeal to the admin directly. Simply leave a message on their talk page explain why you think their decline was incorrect. In my experience, this works more often than not.

Indecently, I was in the process of doing this for this particular article while you were nominating it for deletion, so with any luck it will wind up being speedy deleted without the need for the afd. I hope that's helpful. Cheers. Sir Sputnik (talk) 04:14, 15 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Tourney berths[edit]

I realize that for 2013 & 2013, as well as this year, you listed "Berth types" as either Tournament winner, Regular season winner, or At-large. However, there are actually only two "types"—either Automatic or At-large. The NCAA awards a single automatic bid to each conference to be earned in the manner the conference chooses— either by winning the regular season title or by winning a conference championship tournament. Twenty-one conferences determine the bid via post-season tournaments, and three by regular season conference play; regardless of which way it is won, it is an automatic bid. seeds/rankings[edit]

Is there a reason you changed the NSCAA rankings for the seeded teams to those for November 17th, rather than for the 10th? The rankings for the 10th were the ones the selection committee had available during their deliberations, while those for the 17th reflect the committee's actual selections. The use of the RPI from the 16th is not a problem, since the committee would have had access to that information, but they would not for the rankings that came out 2 days after their picks. (The use of the older rankings also more highly emphasizes the committee's usual deviation from their assigned criteria for selection in favor of certain teams and/or conferences.) GWFrog (talk) 15:08, 21 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I know the poll was updated on the 17th... It was released on the 17th, with the vote taken after the selections had been made... but the selections were made on the 15th, using the poll of the 10th. SInce the RPI is generated by the NCAA computer, the committee had access to the current ratings (as do the selection committees for all other sports), even though they were not posted to the public until the 16th, so it is quite proper for us to use the RPI of the 16th. The rating, however, should use the ratings for the 10th, since that is the only one the committee had. GWFrog (talk) 19:14, 21 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

NYCFC draft picks[edit]

Fair enough, though I am curious as to why the list of drafts included is so restrictive. Why are the other drafts not considered relevant. Are they not still drafts? Tyrone Mears[edit]

Please don't undo my edit. Using the short names is consistent and follows the WikiProject Football/Players template. Using the full name for one club but not any of the others look like crap and especially sticks out like a sore thumb with the "FC". There is nothing special about the Sounders to where they are the only club that gets their full name used. If you must go against the WikiProject Football/Players template, you need to include the full name for all the clubs for consistency. If you've been doing this throughout Wikipedia, I suggest you revise it to match the template and/or other club mentions in those articles. Thank you. Your recent editing history at Aron Jóhannsson shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you get reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. I probably stepped in it by adding ASL without researching that league at all; however, the broader discussion of how to order the leagues that are not sanctioned by USSF is also being included. Would love to hear input from frequent editors of the lower division league and club pages. Thx

How is linking USMNT an overlink?[edit]

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Aron_J%C3%B3hannsson&diff=next&oldid=649577505 There was a discussion on the article's talk page. No one objected so I applied the change. I'm not sure how that's an OVERLINK. It's not a common term. It's not a large geographic region. If you'd rather, we could discuss on the article's talk page. Expatriate player in Canada for an American playing for an American MLS team?[edit]

So... are we adding that category now to every player? And I am guessing that a Canadian playing for a Canadian team will get "Expatriate player in the United States" category as well. Not against this but just wondering. --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 20:46, 7 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Darwin Jones[edit]

I've prepped 3 pages for first team Seattle Sounders for season 2015. I object to their deletion for now since they will likely gain coverage as the season begins. I think it's poor form to have uncreated pages for the first team players. March 2015[edit]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Minnesota United FC. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Please be particularly aware that Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

In particular, editors should be aware of the three-revert rule, which says that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. While edit warring on Wikipedia is not acceptable in any amount and can lead to a block, breaking the three-revert rule is very likely to lead to a block. If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. Nomination of Kevin Rivers (baseball) for deletion[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Kevin Rivers (baseball) is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Kevin Rivers (baseball) until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. Spanneraol (talk) 21:25, 29 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Articles[edit]

I've created over 4,500 articles in my time here (averages out about 500 a year) but I've gone through periods where I've created dozens and dozens in a short time, and I've had periods where I've done nothing in weeks. At the minute I'm creating about 5 or so a day but I may just lose motivation soon, then get it back in a few days, that's the way I seem to operate. GiantSnowman 17:42, 9 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

S2 roster[edit]

I can see RJ Noll but not R.J. Noll. He doesn't use periods on his twitter. I suggest we remove them here. As for Sérgio, his shortened Brazilian name is Sérgio Mota not just Sérgio. You can see an example of a player with a fully shortened name here: Thomás Jaguaribe. Notice in the top right corner, it lists just the first name. Additionally, the portuguese article has the nickname listed in line: https://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/S%C3%A9rgio_Mota_(futebolista).

My recommendation is that we change R.J. Noll to RJ Noll throughout wiki and change references to Sérgio to say Sérgio Mota. Stevetauber (talk) 09:02, 2 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Your protection request[edit]

Hi Michael, regarding your protection request:

  • Only administrators can block users
  • Indefinite protection is used rarely - only when the article is the target of sustained, heavy vandalism or WP:BLP violations
  • There's not enough disruption on that article to grant semi-protection - only one IP editing this entire year
  • If you mention sock puppetry, you should mention who you think is the sock master if it's not obviously clear to uninvolved editors.

If you have any questions, just ping me. --NeilN talk to me 19:13, 16 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Bots[edit]

You are receiving this message because a technical change may affect a bot, gadget, or user script you have been using. The breaking change involves API calls. This change has been planned for two years. The WMF will start making this change on 30 June 2015. A partial list of affected bots can be seen here: https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikitech-l/2015-June/081931.html This includes all bots that are using pywikibot compat. Some of these bots have already been fixed. However, if you write user scripts or operate a bot that uses the API, then you should check your code, to make sure that it will not break.

What, exactly, is breaking? The "default continuation mode" for action=query requests to api.php will be changing to be easier for new coders to use correctly. To find out whether your script or bot may be affected, then search the source code (including any frameworks or libraries) for the string "query-continue". If that is not present, then the script or bot is not affected. In a few cases, the code will be present but not used. In that case, the script or bot will continue working.

This change will be part of 1.26wmf12. It will be deployed to test wikis (including mediawiki.org) on 30 June, to non-Wikipedias (such as Wiktionary) on 1 July, and to all Wikipedias on 2 July 2015.

If your bot or script is receiving the warning about this upcoming change (as seen at https://www.mediawiki.org/w/api.php?action=query&list=allpages ), it's time to fix your code!

Either of the above solutions may be tested immediately, you'll know it works because you stop seeing the warning.

Do you need help with your own bot or script? Ask questions in e-mail on the mediawiki-api or wikitech-l mailing lists. Volunteers at m:Tech or w:en:WP:Village pump (technical) or w:en:Wikipedia:Bot owners' noticeboard may also be able to help you.

Are you using someone else's gadgets or user scripts? Most scripts are not affected. To find out if a script you use needs to be updated, then post a note at the discussion page for the gadget or the talk page of the user who originally made the script. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 19:03, 17 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Surely if Conor Donovan has made an appearance in the US Open Cup, you should mention that in the article? You can't remove a PROD by asserting notability and then only substantiate that assertion in an edit summary. – PeeJay 22:21, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Looking at Joel Condor. His page says he has 31 appearances and 22 goals for two of the top teams in Peru. A recent news report backs up his presence on the teams[3] - I'm assuming the prod is that there's a question about the number of appearances, and surprising number of goals? Which I assume raises questions about the account User:Edward1099. Though I haven't got Peruvian stats at my fingertips. It is unusual to have such a hoax perpetuated over a 2-year period; on the other hand, I'm not googling anything which suggests the goals are real - or at least not first team. Invite to the African Destubathon[edit]

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! So it would be a good chance to win something for improving stubs on African sportspeople, including footballers, athletes, Olympians and Paralympians etc, particularly female ones, but also male. Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing a few expanded articles on African Paralympians, Olympians and committees etc, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. Thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:13, 6 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Nationality - Creavalle[edit]

I get what you're saying, the "X-born, X-ese" phrasing doesn't make sense. But in this case, he is American, but he represents Guyana on the international level through his father's connection. I can't find anything that actually establishes him a Guyana citizen, and from everything else I've seen, went to Guyana the first time when he was called up last year. It's this reason that it seems misleading to title him as Guyanese. Similar to Kevin-Prince Boateng. That's all I'm saying.

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Sean Bucknor requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion discussion, such as at Articles for deletion. When a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after a discussion, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here.
