I am not interested in getting into an edit war on this subject, and am not interested in developing articles for the people who have been added to the list of alumni. As you must know, unsourced material may be deleted at any time. You should not restore unsourced material. The purpose of the article is to describe the school, not to list all the "renowned" people who have attended it, but who are not renowned enough to have an article. See the article's talk page. The relevant guideline is Wikipedia:WikiProject Schools/Article guidelines#Alumni, which says "All alumni information must be referenced ... When alumni have their own articles in mainspace, it is not necessary for their notability to be referenced, as long as it is done in the biographical articles. Be sure to check the existing biography article to ensure that it demonstrates alumni status with a cited reference. ... Per Wikipedia:Bio#Lists of people, alumni to be included must meet Wikipedia notability criteria." It is the responsibility of the editor adding the information to provide the sources and demonstrate notability. I will tag the entries in this list, and remove the praise words. I assume you will provide the evidence of notability. If not, I will remove the entries for which no evidence has been provided. For all I know, they are a hoax. I certainly welcome the application of Wikipedia's Rules and apologize for not taking to the Talk Page before undoing Captainda's updates. While Captainda has stated that he/she made good faith edits, other watchers of these pages should police Captainda's updates because they are based on inferences and were made without reading actual source material. While I welcome Captainda's contributions, updates must be based on evidence and no reputable document shows when Akitoye rebuffed Benin tributary payments to Benin. What authors Robert Smith, Kristin Mann, and Jean Herskvotis repeatedly show however is an Akitoye who was willing to do whatever was needed to get back the throne so I encourage Captainda to read source material and not make updates based on inferences or deductions. Captainda's note about Akitoye being under "British authority" from Akitoye's page actually reveals that I need to make an edit to Akitoye's page. The material Captainda (talk · contribs)sourced was provided by me no less! Jean Herskovits' verbatim words were "Three days before, "another event took place...of rather more serious import, because involving more serious consequences. The king Akitoye died. The circumstances surrounding his death are not clear, but they seem to point to poison, probably ritually administered. Such action would fit into the traditional Yoruba pattern, whereby, as we have seen, a ruler who failed to meet the expectations of his subjects was called on to put an ed to his life. It is also possible that the king had had at last realized that the aid enlisted to assure his re-entry into Lagos meant his replacement by British authority". I wrongly summarized and paraphrased "Akitoye may have realized that his bargain with the British rendered him ineffective and established British authority over Lagos". Replacement is not the same as establishment. Akitoye saw that the tide was turning against him and that the British intervention in 1851 was not what he thought it would be but formal authority over Lagos did not commence until after the Lagos Treaty of Cession in 1861. It is incorrect, not factual, and misleading to update Wikipedia with any words that suggest that Akitoye was ever under British authority. I suggest Captainda (talk · contribs) take his/her contributions to the Talk Page to have a healthy debate before making unsubstantiated and incorrect updates. I was just wondering why my use of pre-nominal honorifics for Nigerian aristocrats was considered "gratuitous". Whenever European aristocrats, for example, are written about on Wikipedia, their pre-nominals are typically - if not always - used. Why should ours be any different, especially when Nigerians are normally quite insistent on their usage?

I still think that they are gratuitous and my stomach turns whenever I see "Chief" before a person's name on Wikipedia. I don't think it adds any value but make una do as Naija people like to do. Why the sudden grandstanding on parts of the body article, including the removal of references and the arbitrary summarisation of the subject as a "retired Nigerian politician" all on the illogical basis of alleged "badly worded edits that do not read well and are full of grammatical and punctuation errors" without discussing on the talk page in line with general consensus?
