Unitarian Society (Fall River, Massachusetts)[edit]

I was checking out the article on the Unitarian Society in Fall River that you contributed to, and there's a lot that was wrong. I want to reconcile what you know with what I know so we can get this article right... a little help here? ToddC4176 (talk) 01:31, 29 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your NRHP table-izing[edit]

The NRHP Table-izer Barnstar
I award you this Barnstar for your contributions in table-izing multiple states' NRHP list-tables. As one editor put it, just before midnight U.S. Eastern time on July 4, Hey, between us we got it all done. Hooray!!

In fact we met multiple goals in table-izing list-articles covering all 83,973 NRHPs nation-wide during February 2008 to July 4, 2009.
Thanks for your work in several states, and your taking on the Boston list more recently. Hope you had a great Fourth! -- Doncram, 5 July 2008

Can you get over there and take pictures of the site? From what I gather, they're putting a temporary bridge in place, a Bailey Bridge, with steel pipe piers and everything. If you can't do it, just let me know and I'll try to get to it this weekend. - Denimadept (talk) 20:22, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • I went by there tonight and they are just starting to drive piles for the temporary abutments. --Marcbela (talk) 23:58, 15 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, that's what the project page says. Three percent done on the temp bridge. I guess it's too soon. - Denimadept (talk) 02:54, 16 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Once the temp bridge is removed, we'll need a new image. I'm not happy with my image from May. Hopefully, I'll be back in the area soon and can update the image, but it'd be good if you could do something. - Denimadept (talk) 20:08, 29 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

File:Lower Mills MA.jpg[edit]

I thought I'd let you know -- unless you live in Milton there's no reason you would -- the subject photo was used, properly credited, in a 2010 calendar issued by GKR Residential of Milton (www.gkrresidential.com). I live in Milton, so I got one in the mail. They applied a water color texture which I'm not sure I like, and did other manipulation, but that's what the license lets them do. They'll surely send you one if you ask. Regards, . . . . Jim . . . . Jameslwoodward (talkcontribs) 21:50, 22 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

pic question[edit]

pic labelled East Providence Arch Bridge

Hey, nice pic! I don't see how it could be a pic of the NRHP-listed Boston and Providence Railroad Bridge, however, as that is supposed to span a river! --doncram (talk) 19:20, 17 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The river is to the left - sorry, there are more arches that I didn't get.--Marcbela (talk) 01:14, 19 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I just discovered[edit]

an article, The Hiker, that you had written several yeas ago and was about to launch into it when I thought I'd see if you were still active (glad to see that you are) and discuss various issues with you. The term "the hiker" as it is used here, referred to American soldiers who fought in Cuba, the Philippines and China around 1900. There were statues made commemorating their ventures and adventures by at least two different sculptors. One, was Theo Alice Ruggles Kitson and she created the one pictured in the article, but at least one of the statues, maybe more, that are listed in the article was/were made by Allen George Newman. I am not quite sure how this needs be be resolved but I thought that I chat it over with you before doing anything rash. Einar aka Carptrash (talk) 02:48, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Sorry, I have no idea about the creator of the statues.--Marcbela (talk) 12:29, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
My thought was that the article gives the impression that the term "Hiker" is about one particular state when that's not really accurate. As I make edits just keep an eye on them and feel free to leap in at any time, for any reason. Life is supposed to be interesting. Carptrash (talk) 20:22, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I am further breaking the Hiker down into The Hiker (Kitson) and The Hiker (Newman. The Fall River MA edition article should be incorporated into the Kitson article. Einar aka Carptrash (talk) 03:05, 28 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Done! -Do you know the date for the Fall River one?--Marcbela (talk) 12:11, 28 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the correction. Good thing you had the right image! I had incidently taken a picture of the original library too, but didn't know what it was (and it wasn't a very good picture anyway...) Faolin42 (talk) 00:22, 28 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • I incorporated your new image into the article.--Marcbela (talk) 00:23, 28 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

South Coast Rail map[edit]

(Asking you since you've been a major recent contributor. Respond here; I'll watch your talk page.)

I'm currently in the early design stage of an SVG map of South Coast Rail. As a basis, and for reference, I've made a map on Google Maps, showing the lines and stations. I feel it would be a useful external link for Wikipedia, especially until the SVG map is complete. However, adding it myself would probably be a violation of OR and self-promotion rules.

So, could you take a look and check for stupid errors, or anything that would make it ineligible as an external link?

If it's good, then just copy-paste the following code to the External Links section of the article.

*[http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=216672694376739698336.0004a7fcd71744ac2b81d&msa=0&ll=41.996243,-71.043091&spn=1.190013,2.469177 User-created map of line on Google Maps]

Looks good to me.--Marcbela (talk) 10:55, 14 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Mill List[edit]

You are quite welcome with the edits to the List of mills in Fall River, Massachusetts page. The Montaup and Slade Mills were definately Red Brick. I have a copy of the newspaper articles and photos of the Montaup Mill fire I searched for in the Fall River Public Library. I just recently uncovered an old picture of the Slade Mill taken from the steeple of St. Patrick's church and it too is definately Red Brick. You can also see the Montaup and Osborn Mills in the background. There is some information I am having a difficult time digging up. Quite a few mills in the city were abandoned and left to fall into ruin. The demolition dates I am having a hard time finding(American Linen, Mount Hope, Osborn). I am having no luck at all finding information on the Flint Mill fire in the 1880's. I haven't stopped looking so wish me luck. I would also like to thank you fo your edits and pictures you posted to the page I wrote for Notre Dame de Lourdes Church (Fall River, Massachusetts). I never got to see the church, I was 3 when it burned down so it's been a little bit of a passion for me. The only memory I have of it was the day of the fire. I was standing in Maplewood Park with my grandmother watching the smoke fill the sky. Thanks.Mattzinger78 (talk) 02:11, 1 December 2011 (UTC)Mattzinger78[reply]

There is an old photo of American Linen here, from 1937. Mill No. 2 on the left is clearly in ruins, but it's hard to tell if it's being demolished. The building that is there now, formerly Quaker Fabrics was originally J&J Corrugated Box Company, built in the 1940s. Therefore, American linen was probably demolished in the early 1940s, but I do not know the exact date. Mount Hope Mill was later known as Conanicut Mill, it may have made it into the 1960s. Osborn is a mystery to me also. Not much on that one ever. If you want info on the Flint Mill Fire, check out the "Victorian Vistas" book, UMD Library has a copy of it. There are photos of the original 1872 mill and an article about the fire. Notre Dame was my church growing up. I made my first communion there. I witnessed the fire that day first hand. My memories of the place are still vivid. --Marcbela (talk) 02:42, 1 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I have one of the Victorian Vistas books but I'm not sure which one. In it there is a picture of the interrior of my Great-great-great-Grandfathers blacksmith shop. It was located where Flint Villiage Plaza is now. From what I understand it was the last blacksmith shop in the city. There is a website called historicaerials.com that has an aerial view of Fall River from the 1960's, in it you can see the outline of the Osborn Mills foundation so that one might have made it to the sixties too. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mattzinger78 (talkcontribs) 02:01, 3 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Wow! Great link. Love the 1960's aerials. No highways yet anywhere! thanks for the link --Marcbela (talk) 02:25, 3 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The floor removal on Narragansett Mill 2[edit]

I am not exactly sure why it is being removed. I only noticed it friday night heading home from work. As I was driving on North Main Street heading into the city, traffic was slow and being diverted due to the huge fire on Hood St. that destroyed a triple decker house. As I was passing the Narragansett Mills I noticed most of the second floor was missing on Mill 2 and there was light on the inside. At first I thought it was being demolished but I took a drive by this morning just to make sure. As it turns out almost all the second floor is gone and it appears that workers were turning the floor of the second level into a flat roof. I can only guess as to the reasons for this but I did manage to snap a picture of what it looked like today. At least its not as bad as whats happening to the King Philip Mills. I am very sad to see that it looks like Mill 1 and 2 are going to be demolished soon. It was bad enough when the office/proofing building burnt last week. Unfortunately with a fire hazard that great unless the mills are brought up to code and the back taxes paid those two buildings will go the way of so many others in the city. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mattzinger78 (talkcontribs) 02:18, 15 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I am holding out hope for the King Philip Mills.--Marcbela (talk) 02:36, 15 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on good quality evidence, and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. cmadler (talk) 15:30, 30 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I also note that you changed the date in the info box from "dedication" to "completed" (or something). I think "dedicated" is the way to go. This link [1] clearly speaks to a dedication on that date. I am not sure what "completed" even refers to. It's a good idea for buildings, not so typically used for sculpture. Einar aka Carptrash (talk) 03:21, 31 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent update[edit]

That was an excellent update you posted for the Fall River Manufactory. A lot of useful info there. The updates to the Quequechan, Watuppa and Fall River Print Works were good too. I have been looking for this info for a while. Thanks Mark, keep it up. Mattzinger78 (talk) 23:04, 24 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Winooski Falls Mill District[edit]

I have tempted fate by penning Winooski Falls Mill District breaking my rule of not stepping over the pond. You might like to add it to your watch list. Obviously there is more to say, but I was tempted over by the Lewis Hine photos of Chase Mill that I keep googling, when searching for illustrations of textile machinery. Anyway it seemed a good idea to establish contact. --ClemRutter (talk) 11:04, 3 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I was able to visit Winooski last month. I have put some photos on my Flickr account. I have not looked at the Winooski wiki sites yet - will do now. Unvisited places[edit]

Now that we're getting short of pictures to take in Massachusetts, I've been writing an App to find places to photograph. (Also, my sister wanted to take pictures while on vacation) It finds articles with coordinates but that don't have pictures, and plans routes to get as many pictures as possible in a short time. You can default to your current location, or enter any location in the world. It's still kind of a beta version, so I welcome feedback from anyone. I can also generate and email itineraries if anyone needs one. If you're interested, here's a link to the app... Link to Unvisited and here's a link to generated itineraries for Springfield ... A barnstar for you![edit]

The Original Barnstar
Thank you for the entry on the Leonard iron works in Taunton, MA...I am a descendent of the Leonards...in particular, Heman Leonard, who migrated to Grand Rapids, MI, where his son Charles started Leonard Ice Box company...which was well known for porcelain enameled ice box liners built on cast iron...my grandmother, Dorothy Leonard, compiled a significant history / genealogy...even traveling to England to locate the original Leonard blast furnaces there...I have a cast iron fire back that she obtained and believes is somehow linked to the Leonard iron works in Taunton, I think. When I get time, I will take a picture, and see if there is more material I can add to your entry...note, her book indicates that Heman is a descendent of Jonathan Leonard of CT / NY, son of Silas Leonard of CT / NY, son of Seth Leonard of Taunton, MA !! She indicates Seth born ca 1694...but it seems he moved...and died in 1759 in Halifax, Nova Scotia...there probably is some interesting text about iron workers in her material...which I was just reading when I googled and found your entry for Leonard iron!! amazing... Dexter Richards Mill, Newport, New Hampshire[edit]

Hi! I noticed that you have a picture of the Dexter Richards Mill in Newport, New Hampshire on Flickr here (unless that's your evil doppelganger and not you). Would you mind uploading it to Commons? The mill is now in the National Register of Historic Places listings in Sullivan County, New Hampshire. Thanks! Magic♪piano 22:23, 14 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The article Chain Bridge (Massachusetts) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This doesn't appear to be notable, given the fact that this article and the Tyngsborough Bridge are the only two articles from this list that actually exist. Many others have been created and speedy deleted, some multiple times

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. 24.63.117.181 (talk) 14:11, 25 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
