Re

Hey Marshal, good to see you

Thank you, I'm glad that you think that my workshop is improving. My plan was to complete some last parts (music and Bolivian and Chilean variations), give it a review (there are some parts that I'll modify later, I'm not so satisfied with them) then add the pictures, and load it next week but maybe I can do it earlier. You'll be checking the final work soon then others will be able to improve the article too. Best regards. Erebedhel - Talk 06:37, 7 April 2010 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Alberto Flores Galindo requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Grab some glory, and a barnstar

Hi, I'd like to invite you to participate in the Guild of Copy Editors July 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive. In May, about 30 editors helped remove the {{copyedit}} tag from 1175 articles. The backlog is still over 7500 articles, and extends back to the beginning of 2008! We really need your help to reduce it. Copyediting just a couple articles can qualify you for a barnstar. Serious copyeditors can win prestigious and exclusive rewards. See the event page for more information. And thanks for your consideration. ɳorɑfʈ Talk! 14:58, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

GOCE Backlog Elimination Drive Wrap-up

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors July 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive. Thanks to all who participated in the drive! Over 100 editors—including Jimbo Wales—signed up this time (nearly triple the participants of the May drive). This benefited the Guild as well as the articles in need of copy editing. You can see from the comparison graphs that we increased the number of completed copyedits substantially. Unfortunately, we were not able to meet our goal of completely wiping out 2008 from the queue. We also were not able to reduce the backlog to less than 6,000 articles. We suspect people were busy with real life summertime things, at least in the northern hemisphere! We were able to remove the months of January, February, March, April, and May from the backlog, and we almost wiped out the month of June. We reduced the backlog by 1,289 articles (17%), so all in all it was a very successful drive, and we will be holding another event soon. We'll come up with some new ideas to try to keep things fresh and interesting. Keep up the good work, everybody!

Stats
If you copy edited at least 4,000 words, you qualify for a barnstar. If you edited in the May 2010 GOCE Backlog Elimination Drive, your word totals are cumulative for barnstars (not the leaderboard). Over the course of the next week or two, we will be handing out the barnstars.

August 2010

Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you recently tried to give Ceviche a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut and paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is needed for attribution and various other purposes. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen. Thank you. I've identified several other problems with this move at Talk:Ceviche Beeblebrox (talk) 15:35, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

Let me know when you're done, I tagged the article with a GOCEinuse tag but evidently you haven't noticed. Nuujinn (talk) 21:32, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

For the addition of references to the ceviche article, well done! --Nuujinn (talk) 00:51, 12 August 2010 (UTC)

Well, this article is a bit close to my heart, I'm from the southeatern US, and I used to make a catfish ceviche back in the 1980s when I worked as a house painter. Lime and onion and garlic and cayenne pepper, put it in the cooler when I left for work, done by lunch. Yum! --Nuujinn (talk) 02:16, 12 August 2010 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Teofilo Cubillas.png

Thank you for uploading File:Teofilo Cubillas.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rodhullandemu 21:16, 14 August 2010 (UTC)

November copy edit drive

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive!

The Wikipedia Guild of Copy-Editors invites you to participate in the November 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive, a month-long effort to reduce the backlog of articles that require copy-editing. The drive will begin on 1 November at 00:00 (UTC) and will end on 30 November at 23:59 (UTC). The goal for this drive is to reduce the backlog by 10% (approximately 500 articles). We hope to focus our efforts on the oldest three months (January, February, and March 2009) and the newest three months (September, October, and November 2010) of articles in the queue.

Sign-up has already begun at the November drive page, and will be open throughout the drive. If you have any questions or concerns, please leave a message on the drive's talk page.

Before you begin copy-editing, please carefully read the instructions on the main drive page. Please make sure that you know how to copy-edit, and be familiar with the Wikipedia Manual of Style.

GOCE November 2010 backlog elimination drive progress graphs

We have reached the midway point in our backlog elimination drive, so here is an update.

Participation report — The November drive has 53 participants at this point. We had 77 participants in the September drive. In July, 95 people signed up for the drive, and in May we had 36. If you are not participating, it is not too late to join!

Progress report — The drive is quite successful so far, as we have already almost reached our target of a 10% reduction in the number of articles in the backlog. We are doing very well at keeping our Requests page clear, as those articles count double for word count for this drive.

Please keep in mind the possibility of removing other tags when you are finished with an article. If the article no longer needs {{cleanup}}, {{wikify}}, or other similar maintenance tags, please remove them, as this will make the tasks of other WikiProjects easier to complete. Thanks very much for participating in the Drive, and see you at the finish line!

November 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive Conclusion

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive!

We have reached the end of our fourth backlog elimination drive. Thanks to all who participated.

Stats

GOCE November 2010 backlog elimination drive graphs
  • 58 people signed up for this drive. Of these, 48 people participated in the drive.
  • Although we did not eliminate the months we planned to (January, February, and March 2009; and August, September, and October 2010), we did reduce the backlog by 627 articles (11.2%), which was over our goal of 10%.
  • 49 awards will go out to 33 of 48 participants. Check out the complete list of barnstar winners here.

Barnstars

If you copy edited at least 4,000 words, you qualify for a barnstar. If you participated in the September 2010 backlog elimination drive, you may have earned roll-over words (more details can be found here). These roll-over words count as credit towards earning barnstars, except for leaderboard awards. We will be delivering these barnstars within the next couple of weeks.

Our next drive is scheduled for January 2011. In the meantime, please consider helping out at the Wikification drive or any of the other places where help with backlogs is needed.

GOCE drive news

Guild of Copy Editors January 2011 backlog elimination drive

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors January 2011 Backlog elimination drive! The drive is halfway over, so here are some mid-drive stats.

Participation
GOCE January 2011 backlog elimination drive progress graphs

So far, 43 people have signed up for this drive. Of these, 25 have participated. If you signed up for the drive but haven't participated yet, it's not too late! Try to copy edit at least a few articles. Remember, if you have rollover words from the last drive, you will lose them if you do not participate in this drive. If you haven't signed up for the drive yet, you can sign up now.

Progress report

We have eliminated two months from the backlog – January and February 2009. One of our goals is to eliminate as many months as possible from the 2009 backlog. Please help us reduce the size of this part of the backlog if you haven't already. Another goal is to reduce the entire backlog by 10%, or by 515 articles. Currently, we have eliminated 375 articles from the queue, so if each participant copy edits four more articles, we will reach that goal.

Thank you for participating in the January 2011 drive. We anticipate it will be another big success!

Hi! I reverted your edit to Herodotus and I hope this won't cause you any annoyance. The article said the 'Father of History' was 'the first historian known to..." and that is not redundant, nor does it imply that he was the first historian. GOCE January Backlog elimination drive conclusion

Guild of Copy Editors January 2011 Backlog elimination drive

Greetings from the January 2011 Backlog elimination drive! We have reached the end of the month and the end of another successful drive; thanks to all who participated.

Statistics
  • 54 people signed up for the year's first Backlog elimination drive. Of these, 40 participated.
  • One of our goals was to reduce the size of the backlog by at least 10%. We managed to reduce the backlog by 633 articles, or about 12%.
  • Another goal was to eliminate as many 2009 months as possible from the queue. We eliminated January, February, March, and April—4 out of 12 months is not bad! In addition, we eliminated 37% of all remaining 2009 articles from the queue.
  • Chaosdruid copy edited Kutch Gurjar Kashtriya for 32,711 words, which is the largest single article completed in one of our drives so far. This article counts as six 5000-K articles, and Chaosdruid wins the "most 5000-K articles" leaderboard category. Way to go! A complete list of individual results is here.

GOCE drive invitation

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors

The latest GOCE backlog elimination drive is under way! It began on 1 July and so far 18 people have signed up to help us reduce the number of articles in need of copyediting.

This drive will give a 50% bonus for articles edited from the GOCE requests page. Although we have cleared the backlog of 2009 articles there are still 3,935 articles needing copyediting and any help, no matter how small, would be appreciated.

We are appealing to all GOCE members, and any other editors who wish to participate, to come and help us reduce the number of articles needing copyediting, as well as the backlog of requests. If you have not signed up yet, why not take a look at the current signatories and help us by adding your name and copyediting a few articles. Barnstars will be given to anyone who edits more than 4,000 words, with special awards for the top 5 in the categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", and "Number of articles of over 5,000 words".

Hi Alex, Hi MarshallN20,

I apologize for my error by the transcription of Sater's passage. It was unintentional and I don't know were occured the first time. My rationale stays without prejudice of the typo. Best Regards, --Keysanger (what?) 10:37, 25 July 2011 (UTC)

The article Manu militari has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Not really an encyclopedia article. Unsourced, and we don't need articles simply translating non-English phrases. Wiktionary already has an entry for 'manu militari'.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Michig (talk) 17:16, 25 July 2011 (UTC)

Nomination of Manu militari for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Manu militari is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Manu militari until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on good quality evidence, and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Michig (talk) 08:56, 30 July 2011 (UTC)

The article Peru v Scotland (1978) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This match is not particularly notable by itself, any more than any other match Peru or Scotland played at the 1978 World Cup.

Jmorrison230582 (talk) 12:12, 31 July 2011 (UTC)

Hello, just a note to say that I have moved this to an AfD discussion. As you can probably tell from my opening statement, I would be perfectly happy with the article to stand if it was expanded to include the other games in that group and moved to something like 1978 FIFA World Cup Group D. I just don't think the match merits a standalone article. Thanks, James. Jmorrison230582 (talk) 06:19, 1 August 2011 (UTC)

War of the Pacific

Yes, I have just noticed it. However, it seems a lengthy discussion, it will take me a while to read it all and check some sources by myself before being able to say something. I'm from Argentina, and Argentina did not took part in the war, so most history books I have provide little or no information about it. It's not a topic I'm really familiar with, so I don't want to interrupt with things said from ignorance or naivety; I will join the discussion once I know what I'm talking about.

Which is the controversial point? Is it the date of the Bolivian declaration of war, or who did declare war first? The reasons why each side waged the war, are they disputed? Cambalachero (talk) 19:29, 31 July 2011 (UTC)

Sweet Potato

Hm, you're right. But can you please change the wording on the sentence immediately following it? Integrate it. At the moment the two sentences are still slightly overlapping. While having originated from a place is not necessarily equivalent to being native there, one sentence claims it may have been domesticated in any of the two regions, while the other claims it was domesticated in only one region. Perhaps 'cultivated' would have been a better replacement for the second instance of 'domesticated'.-- Obsidin Soul 02:33, 12 August 2011 (UTC)

Yep. But articles on the most common food plants are often the most difficult ones to clean and update. :( Anyway, the wording looks better I, think. Thanks! - Obsidin Soul 03:58, 12 August 2011 (UTC)

Grau

Hey MarshalN20 I have seen that you insist in include a section on Grau being called Caballero in the [[|War of the Pacific|WotP]] article. As you know I disagree with that specific point but are generally against many of Keysangers natiolistic-Chilean tiny but numerous "pushes". I think that wasting time on this point of little relevance is not fruitful and hampers the solving of the truly important issues of the article. I would sacrifice my position on this point (as I dont consider it realy importnat) if it would lead somewhere but if I do Keysanger will still be there and I think it would be easier of you realize that there more important issues at the stake. The article Ricardo Silva Elizondo has been proposed for deletion because, under Wikipedia policy, all newly created biographies of living persons must have at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. English and soybean

Hi. I answered you nice drink, which tasted nice, on my talk page. I see you are from Peru. I must say your English is SUPERB. I like plants and thought I'd start out there. I see the soybean article could use some work. I don't want to tackle writing yet, but noticed this article has some sort of notice tag about references and that you elaborate on that? Some of the references look really nice and use some sort of formatter with "cite" in them and some look really ugly. Can you tell me what to do there to get me started to make the references look better? Thank you. 512bits (talk) 23:50, 16 February 2012 (UTC)

Are you attempting to keep those references attached to the template? If so, you should move your reflist outside of the noinclude, to clear the cite error on the transcluded articles. Thanks! :)  -- WikHead (talk) 07:28, 17 February 2012 (UTC)

On second thought, it looks like you've gone off line, so I've done this myself. May still require further adjustment. Regards,  -- WikHead (talk) 08:56, 17 February 2012 (UTC)

Well, I'm done with the references on soybean. I'd like to do the same on the botany article and fix it up as best I can. However I don't really know how to go about making the body as as best one can. I view the botany article as a key one among the plant articles and it'd be nice to have it be the best we can. Are you interested in helping out there? 512bits (talk) 01:25, 20 February 2012 (UTC)

As I write on my userpage, the work done by users like you are truly helping shape the modern world (imagine the thousands of people that will read your work). I'll try to help out on the botany article whenever possible, but I can't make any promises. Regards.--MarshalN20 | Talk 03:45, 21 February 2012 (UTC)

An editor since 2008 (and a proffessional historian, as you claim) should understand how important is to mention all possible names, especially for less-than pop topics, i.e., other than pokemon and pornstars. This is vital in search for information, especially if one starts search from poorly translated or even foreign sources. Also, I am baffled with your understanding of the term "constructive". Not to say that you reverted to a verison with a misleading wikipipe. Locador (talk) 02:05, 24 February 2012 (UTC)

March 2012

Your recent editing history at Talk:Falkland Islands shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.

To avoid being blocked, instead of reverting please consider using the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection. Toddst1 (talk) 21:21, 7 March 2012 (UTC)

Guild of Copy Editors March 2012 backlog elimination drive update

GOCE March 2012 Backlog Elimination progress graphs

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors March 2012 Backlog elimination drive! Here's the mid-drive newsletter.

Participation: We have had 58 people sign up for this drive so far, which compares favorably with our last drive, and 27 have copy-edited at least one article. If you have signed up but have not yet copy-edited any articles, please consider doing so. Every bit helps! If you haven't signed up yet, it's not too late. Join us!

Progress report: Our target of completing the 2010 articles has almost been reached, with only 56 remaining of the 194 we had at the start of the drive. The last ones are always the most difficult, so thank you if you are able to help copy-edit any of the remaining articles. We have reduced the total backlog by 163 articles so far.

Special thanks: Special thanks to Stfg, who has been going through the backlog and doing some preliminary vetting of the articles—removing copyright violations, doing initial clean-up, and nominating some for deletion. This work has helped make the drive a more pleasant experience for all our volunteers.

Pisco Sour

Hello, MarshalN20. You have new messages at Willscrlt's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

The Infamous Pisco Block

You have been blocked from editing for a period of 24 hours for your disruption caused by edit warring and violation of the three-revert rule at Pisco Sour. During a dispute, you should first try to discuss controversial changes and seek consensus. If that proves unsuccessful you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection. If you would like to be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} below this notice, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. --Chris (talk) 07:21, 17 March 2012 (UTC)

Note: Plenty of time has passed (an absurd amount of time), so now I'm withdrawing my unblock request. I am 100% sure that I have not done anything wrong or deserving of even a 1 second block. Writing an appeal to the block holds a chance of success depending on the mood of the reviewing administrator. This block is neither teaching me anything or is it going to stop me from doing what I did in the Pisco Sour article (which was to follow the rules of Wikipedia). Not only did I actively promoted discussion of the topic on the article's talk page, but I provided plenty of warnings to the other user about his edits which constitute nothing more than vandalism. I am at peace with my actions and do not need an administrator to judge them. If Chris believes that what he did was right, then that is that. Regards.--MarshalN20 | Talk 00:40, 18 March 2012 (UTC)

My unblock reason is inside the funny blue box. I am not sure why it is not showing up (my technical skills are a bit behind). If the reviewing administrator could please help me out by fixing this minor issue (show the text of my unblock request), then I would be mighty grateful. Also, I express my apologies for taking up their time, and my appreciation for you taking the time to review my block. Best of wishes.--MarshalN20| Talk 14:13, 17 March 2012 (UTC)
The reason the unblock request is having problems is your signature -- you've included the "pipe" character, "|", which is OK outside of a template (which is why it usually doesn't cause problems for you.) You'll either need to pick a different character or surround the pipe with "nowiki", like I did in this comment. --jpgordon::==( o ) 14:31, 17 March 2012 (UTC)
Hahaha. I see! Thank you very much Jpgordon. I have learned something today, and that makes it all worth it. Regards.--MarshalN20 | Talk 14:37, 17 March 2012 (UTC)
Argh? Sorry to hear this. At least he blocked both of you and not just one side. Wish I could help, but I of course am not an admin. Good luck. 512bits (talk) 14:19, 17 March 2012 (UTC)
Thank you 512bits for your comment; it is much appreciated. Sometimes these things happen. It's part of the Wikipedia editing process. Some users get worked up about it, but I like to think of these temporary blocks as "breaks" from Wikipedia. The administrators are people too, and sometimes they make mistakes just as any other regular editor. My justification for the unblock request (which for some reason is not showing up), thoroughly explains why my block is unjustified. Regards.--MarshalN20 | Talk 14:26, 17 March 2012 (UTC)
I'd like to point out that this block was not made in error. You and the other editor both clearly violated 3RR. Whether or not the other party is engaging your attempts at discussion, edit warring is not acceptable. Please follow the dispute resolution process (which does not include reverting continuously). --Chris (talk) 20:18, 18 March 2012 (UTC)
I am not going to stand aloof while the other editor blatantly deletes sourced material. The last edit I made to the article was done in Good Faith as one hour had passed since the other editor had made his last edit (and since I had posted the 3RR report). I even notified the 3RR board that I had done this edit ([6]), which I assume is the edit which caused my 3RR breaking. I assumed that by explaining the edit to the 3RR board, it would be understood as a good faith attempt to help (not disrupt). As proven by the diffs, my attempts at discussion with the other editor were numerous (if not excessive), and so my good faith cannot be put in question. As Kuru wrote to me, you had the option to decide, and you took your choice. I do not condemn you for your decision (and neither am I angry with you), and Kuru also explained the logic of it. However, that does not mean I have to agree with it. Best of wishes.--MarshalN20 | Talk 20:35, 18 March 2012 (UTC)

Cut and paste move at Philip Ainsworth Means

Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you recently tried to give Philip Ainsworth Means a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name.

Thank you.
