FYI

Regarding this edit, the bottom of the source I had originally used has a list of athletes from that nation. I guess that wasn't clear to anyone who hadn't gone through a half dozen of similar "Things to Know" articles published by the IPC, though! (Personally, if I was going to DYK, I'd cobble two sources together and go for him competing one day after a crash the NYT labeled as "horrific", but what do I know? FYI, you don't need to worry about the double spacing at the start of sentences (I think it is a British practice) - the wiki software automatically renders these all as single spaces anyway. @Seraphimblade: I kindly disagree with your view. Can we have a civilized conversation in the draft's talkpage? I reached out to you a few weeks ago regarding this article and welcomed feedback. There's no reason to threat me by posting warning template here. To give you a little background on the article, I voted for its deletion in June 2017; the creator of the article reached out to me for help, so I helped build the article with her and even got it to DYK. The DYK process was thorough and I think this draft deserves attention so we can reach concensus since I / and others in the DYK process do not share your opinion. Translation needed

If you look at Talk:Quimbaya artifacts there's a question by an editor no longer around about the location of these artefacts. Sadly the article itself concentrates on fringe claims. @Doug Weller: Just read through the entire article. There is some information you might find useful. In pages 641–644, it explains that in 1891, the artifacts were discovered by guaqueros (a South American slang used to describe people who "sack" pre-Colombian tombs in search of riches to sell off). The author says that the exact details surrounding the discovery are "unknown".

The artifacts were found in the Colombian municipalities of Quimbaya and Filandia (in a site known as La Soledad). The artifacts were described as "extremely high quality" gold and bronze (tumbaga) objects. The author suspects that their high-quality attributes may have been the reason why these artifacts were not melted (per the author, melting gold/bronze was a common practice in the pre-Colombian era). The name "Tesoro Quimbaya" (Quimbaya Teasure) derives from the name of the indigenous group that lived in the area, the Quimbayas, 1,500 years prior.

When the artifacts were discovered in 1891, Colombia was going through a period of "historical reconstruction"; the government was interested in rebuilding its indigenous past and searching for artifacts from the pre-Colombian era (the author says this was stemmed from the Romanticism movement). The Colombian government donated 122 artifacts to Spain in 1892 as part of the IV Centenary Celebration of the Discovery of America (Spanish Wikipedia here). The government explained that they donated these artifacts as gratitude for Spain's assistance in defining the border between Colombia and Venezuela, among other reasons (not described). These artifacts were displayed in Madrid and Chicago and were intended to be a gift for the Spanish royal family.

The author considers the repatriation of these artifacts as "unconstitutional", and accuses the Colombian government under Carlos Holguín Mallarino of specifically violating clause No. 76.11 of Political Constitution of Colombia (1886), which stated that the government could not donote/gift national assets without popular election. He also cited clauses 76.18 and 120.20, which required the government to get approval from Congress when doing agreements with other countries (in this case, Spain).

In 2008, a Colombian lawyer named Felipe Rincón Salgado issued a "popular action" (Spanish Wikipedia here) in a Bogotá court asking the government to start a formal process to get the artifacts repatriated back to Colombia in 3 months. The request was denied in 2011, after a Cundinamarca court considered that issuing a popular action was not the correct method for demonstrating the illegality of the donation. They also argued that the donation was not illegal at the time it was done because it was not considered a "national heritage" when it was gifted. A Colombian constitutional court rejected the Cundinamarca court decision soon thereafter, arguing that such restrictions diminished the power of popular action, and that the time of the violation did not absolve the government if the donation is illegal in the present. There is yet to be a resolution on the case, but the author believes that the repatriation is favorable.

His ban was for socking and there were clear concerns about COI editing with that sock. On the draft that I pointed to there is some very clear editorialising and WP:COATRACKING. USER:Seraphimblade draftified the article as it did not meet the necessary standards and MX became very combative about the way it was written and asked for another pair of eyes and despite the consensus that the article needed to be totally rewritten he continues to argue and try and justify his position and has made some very slight modifications but essentially refuses to bring it in line with what is expected from a BLP. • @B.N. Dehigaspage: Hi, thanks for coming to my talkpage. Per this rule, dead links are considered verifiable as long as they are not bare URLs. We can easily try to verify them at Archive.org and other archive pages. Either way, we still encourage reviewers to let nominators address the concerns within 7 days. "Quick fail" reviews are the exception and should be dealt case-by-case, and they usually involve articles that need considerable work. According to this rule here, media is not required in articles. I appreciate your feedback. I am not sure what your position is within the Wikipedia organization. Why did you tag my contributions to this page for lack of sources. I would really appreciate a well founded academic position on why you are considering the deletions. The sources are there, but the reference is generally to other Wikilink pages. Most of the Científico entries have other Wikilink pages, but they are not English language pages. That is it because there are no English sources for much of Mexican history. Just wondering. The same situation exists for virtually all history, as the original source materials are generally written in the original languages, unless they happen to be for American history, English history, or the history of another English-speaking country.

There are several primary and secondary sources as to who is considered part of the Científicos, a group of elites hand-chosen by Porfirio Díaz as advisors and supporters of his programs to modernize Mexico. These men (no women were ever picked) did not remain constant for the most part. Over time, members of his advisors died or fell out of favor. I can't effectively tag each member of the group with the primary source providing the name and position, but I can list the sources as general references to back up the list. Virtually all of the sources will be in Spanish, but that should not be a problem. THERE WAS NEVER ANY LIST that Porfirio Díaz or his staff kept. The men were recognized by their positions and contribution in the modernization program, and by their relationship with Porfirio Díaz.

If a person needs the basic English explanation for a subject, I write that in English. However if the primary source in is another language that I speak, read or write, then I will list the primary source as it originally is. Secondary source are subject to error, and are many times without reference to a primary source. The more advanced researcher can go to the original primary source if they wish. This is how the best academic encyclopedias of the past have always done it. I am just follow how most real historians have always written. By the way, I have several advanced degrees. I have a degree in history, and have been writing and teaching for more than 40 years. I only do this writing here to help the world-wide community in the advancement of knowledge. I reached out because your updates need inline citations at the end of sentences/paragraphs, that way readers know which source supports what text (see WP:IC for more info). Readers should not have to click the articles linked in científicos to find the sources, or have to guess which sources at the bottom support the sentences/paragraphs they are reading. Adding references at the end of sentences/paragraphs helps improve Wikipedia's verifiability. You can use Spanish-language sources as needed; I use them all the time. I don't usually write here using primary sources, however, so I'll direct you to WP:PSTS and WP:USEPRIMARY for more info. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for the additional feedback. I have noted that most "lists" in Wikipedia do not use inline citations, or cite sources. Why is that? I suspect it is because they are simply lists, and the item listed is readily verifiable through multiple sources. In the case of the listed Científicos, I have gone one step further than the majority of contributors do when creating lists. For every person I have listed I have provided an inline link to a Wikipedia page - English or Spanish, with one notable exception, Miguel Salvador Macedo. I was going to create a page for in both languages for Sr. Macedo in the future. I will concede that providing an additional citation link following the name of the person to a source at the end of the page might be helpful, but the majority of the sources would be nothing more than a reference to an additional list in the book, journal or document cited. • @Yaquifox: For list articles, tables seem to be the most popular way of adding info / keeping things organized. This is not my area of expertise (I only have one poorly made table here). Your best bet would be to check out several styles at Wikipedia:Featured lists and decide which one you want to include. You actually didn't address my concerns. I have no questions regarding formatting of tables to organize lists. Previously, you have specifically stated that my contributions to the page had a lack of sources. Next you indicated that you reached out because my updates need inline citations at the end of sentences/paragraphs. I came back to you and stated that I had provided inline citations via wikilinks for every name on the list, including all of those that I had not put there, with a single exception. I also stated that, in general, lists in Wikipedia do not have any sources, inline citations, or footnotes. I stated that this is likely because they are, after all, just lists, and typically do not have extensive content that needs specific sources provided. Lists are to provide a guidepost for further research if the reader wishes, and not contain extensive citations of sources. • You made updates to científicos without using sources. And I specified to you that you need inline citations, and that using inline citations in the linked articles is not enough. You need them in both articles. Lists should have sources. Just because some articles don't doesn't mean that's the standard for list articles. I suggested tables because that's the recommended way of citing from what I have seen. not sure what you mean, it is now sourced. Generally the good thing to do is perform a google search and add a source instead of unilaterally removing date of birth. Most athletes date of birth is referenced in the external link section; few are cited in the lead. @Editorofthewiki: Sorry, I meant to say that the POB is unsourced. I know the info is found in Source #1, but a ref should be placed immediately after the fact. Data in the infobox should be cited elsewhere per WP:INFOBOXCITE. I've cited the POB and height/weight here. Something like that would prevent such info from technically being "unsourced". Hi, I reverted your edit on Neil Matthews but for the wrong reason. I mistakenly thought the nationality was already in the article and you had simply changed the order. However, the revert still stands as it is common practice on footballers' articles to avoid listing nationalities for players whose international representation differs from their nation of birth to avoid any controversy, Matthews having being born in England but played for Northern Ireland. British technically doesn't exist in footballing terms as the home nations are all considered independent entities by sports governing bodies. Not to mention, labelling a person as British is a potential minefield as it's not a widely used term for a person's nationality in the UK. Current consensus at WP:FOOTBALL is to avoid listing possibly controversial nationalities and simply describe the situation in more detail, which I've tried to do later on in the lead. Ecclesia Athletic Association Dates

Hi I saw you change the date formats on the EAA article. This is something I really don't care about except for the fact that some GA reviewers do care and I plan to make that article GA and will again be using the visual editor to do so and your change will make for inconsistent dates. The format that had been present in the article was the MOS approved format yyyy-mm-dd which is appropriate for "where brevity is helpful (refs..." Can I ask why via script you changed it?
