Thanks for starting an article about Harry Wild Jones. I've been doing some work on articles about historic buildings around Minneapolis-St. Paul, and I just got a couple pictures of his house on Nicollet. I'm planning to start that article soon, so if you have interests in those areas, I'd be happy to have you help out. --Elkman (Elkspeak) 22:22, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Photos[edit]

I got your message about uploading photos, so I can help you out with how to upload them. The instructions at Special:Upload for uploading are a bit complex, but I'll ask a few questions that might help you sort through things:

  • Are these pictures you've taken yourself?
    • If so, you can upload them under either a Creative Commons license that allows reuse for commercial works, or under the GNU Free Documentation License. (Other sites reuse Wikipedia content, and some of those sites are commercial sites that make a profit, so that's why the terminology applies there.)
    • There's also some wording in there about the Wikimedia Commons, which is a common site that allows other-language Wikipedia sites to use these pictures. So, for example, if the German Wikipedia had an article about the Harry Wild Jones house, putting the picture on the Wikimedia Commons makes it easier to do so.
  • If these pictures aren't pictures that you've taken yourself:
    • If the photos are in the public domain, either because the copyright has expired or because they're a work of the federal government, then they can be uploaded to Wikipedia, as long as their source is specified.
    • If the photos are not in the public domain, but they're from some other source (for example, they're from the Hennepin History Museum), then Wikipedia needs permission to use those photos.

Let me know which one of these situations applies to the photos you want to upload, and I'll tell you the next steps in uploading them. You can reply here or at User talk:Elkman; I'll see the message on either page. --Elkman (Elkspeak) 21:33, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
