North Vietnamese military leader[edit]

This article mentions a Nguyen Van Tai, a colonel in the North Vietnamese security service who led insurgent operations in the south during the conflict. According to the article, he recently published a memoir, but the article doesn't say whether it was in English or Vietnamese. I assume Vietnamese. Is there enough information out there to start an article on this guy or on any of the operations he was involved in? Cla68 (talk) 00:01, 30 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't heard of this guy, although I don't know much about the Vietnam War only SV from 1955-1965 basically, and mostly politics at that. I did find two hits on google books, one by Snepp, and another guy, so he is notable, whether there are enough decent sources to do anything decent, well ton That Dinh had dozens of hits on gbooks but most of them didn't amount to much as I already put everything in the top 90 hits in the article excluding repeat snippets etc. YellowMonkey (cricket calendar poll!) 02:04, 30 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Got it. Thanks. Cla68 (talk) 04:24, 30 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ricky Ponting[edit]

I don't understand the reason for this edit that you made at Ricky Ponting. According to the instructions for {{Infobox cricketer biography}}, the "living" field should equal "true" if the cricketer is alive,[1] as you can see at the template example.[2] This allows for automatic calculation of age, avoiding the necessity to update the individual's age each year. --AussieLegend (talk) 01:25, 4 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry that was a mistake YellowMonkey (cricket calendar poll!) 01:28, 4 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. I actually thought that you may not be aware of that feature in the template. Cheers. --AussieLegend (talk) 06:43, 4 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

GA Sweeps invitation[edit]

Hello, I hope you are doing well. I am sending you this message since you are a member of the GA WikiProject. I would like to invite you to consider helping with the GA sweeps process. Sweeps helps to ensure that the oldest GAs still meet the criteria, and improve the quality of GAs overall. Unfortunately, last month only two articles were reviewed. This is definitely a low point after our peak at the beginning of the process when 163 articles were reviewed in September 2007. After nearly two years, the running total has just passed the 50% mark. In order to expediate the reviewing, several changes have been made to the process. A new worklist has been created, detailing which articles are left to review. All exempt and previously reviewed articles have already been removed from the list. Instead of reviewing by topic, you can consider picking and choosing whichever articles interest you.

We are always looking for new members to assist with the remaining articles, so if you are interested or know of anybody that can assist, please visit the GA sweeps page. In addition, for every member that reviews 100 articles or has a significant impact on the process, s/he will get an award when they reach that threshold. If only 14 editors achieve this feat starting now, we would be done with Sweeps! Of course, having more people reviewing less articles would be better for all involved, so please consider asking others to help out. Feel free to stop by and only review a few articles, something's better than nothing! Take a look at the list, and see what articles interest you. Let's work to complete Sweeps so that efforts can be fully focused on the backlog at GAN. If you have any questions about the process, reviewing, or need help with a particular article, please contact me or OhanaUnited and we'll be happy to help. --Happy editing! Unblock request of Internet Scholar[edit]

Hello YellowMonkey. Internet Scholar (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log), whom you have blocked, is requesting to be unblocked. The request for unblock is on hold while waiting for a comment from you. Regards,  Sandstein  16:54, 4 May 2009 (UTC) Comment: It's not quite clear whether this sockpuppet has been used abusively, as required for a block per WP:SOCK. Thanks,  Sandstein  16:54, 4 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think it's appropriate to split his edits like that so that he can spread the reverts around and give an incomplete history of his editing on the same topic. I think it's pertinent if someone edits wars that people know that they have a history on a sister article, so to speak, which is the case here. The sock is one IDed on the userpage. CU confrimed and he confessed anyway. YellowMonkey (cricket calendar poll!) 05:24, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Doug Ring in 1948[edit]

I think you meant to tell me that Ring is at PR, not FAC. We have a slight backlog there at the momemt, so don't be surprised if it's a few days before Doug gets picked up. I assure you he will be. Brianboulton (talk) 08:34, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

yep, thanks YellowMonkey (cricket calendar poll!) 03:21, 6 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Silly Hilditch.... again[edit]

It wouldn't surprise me if Lee plays the first ashes test and gets smashed all round the place. Boony needs to speak up and get off he lazy ass for once, or at least another selector does. When Boony retired, he worked at a bank here in Launceston, Tasmania and he did jack all, just sat at the back eating lol! From what I've seen and heard he's a fairly laid back sorta bloke and wouldn't want to make a big drama. What I'm trying to say is, we need selectors that are prepared to stand up to Hildich and voice their opinions. Maybe they are currently doing so, but are being shut down. Reliable sources tell me both Boony and Cox have been unhappy with the selections of late, as word of mouth gets around quickly in Tassie.

It's disappointing that Gayle has only just arrived in London for the first test. As captain you would think he could do better. But I suppose he's West Indian! It's going to be very cold for them over in England considering it's only late spring. Aaroncrick(Tassie Boy talk) 10:09, 6 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I must admit I laughed when I read CobaltBlueTony's reply especially "calling someone a "silly hilditch" -- which, I have to confess, I have no idea what that means." I think "silly hilditch" might have a chance of catching on as a mild insult to describe someone (like Andrew H) who is confused, vacillitory, prone to random judgements and generally woolly headed. It certainly describes the Chairman of Selectors to a "T" -- Mattinbgn\talk 07:43, 8 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey[edit]

First, congrats on finally restoring the userpage, or maybe recreating would be a better word. Shahrukh's team has lost it, hasn't it? I don't really understand how it works, I mean, how they conclude who the winners are. The team which has the most wins or what?

Two points for a win, 1 for draw/tie/no result. If equal on points they use net run rate. Top four go to semifinals. 1st v 4th, 2 v 3. Then they get in the final. Yes, I think Punjab are stuffed now that James Hopes has been ruled out. YellowMonkey (cricket calendar poll!) 01:42, 8 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Books on the 1948 tour[edit]

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. TBH, I don't really know about any books on the 1948 tour that are much good. Farewell to cricket is a start I guess. Brightly fades the Don by Fingleton is another. After that, I am drawing a bit of a blank. Newspapers from the 50th anniversary in 1998 may have something (not sure what the 'tiser will have). Unlike modern days, it doesn't seem every man and his dog felt the need to publish a tour diary!

Very busy this week at work and at home, but work on Claggy will start again shortly. Great work as always on the IPL on your blog. Cheers, Mattinbgn\talk 08:48, 1 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Mr YellowMonkey.

Would you mind adding (some) sentence(s) which regard to Vo Tanh into the article Gia Long? I don't know how to do it because the current article's paragraphs are too closed.--Amore Mio (talk) 05:38, 4 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sure I'll do it. Your articles will be on DYK soon, well done. I've just copyedited it and tweaked a few things so that long ndashes are used for number ranges instead of simple hyphens and the cites are all the same format. Also in English, "," is used for thousands, millions and billions rather than "." YellowMonkey (cricket calendar poll!) 05:24, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Are you planning to write more on teh Tay Son- Nguyen war? YellowMonkey (cricket calendar poll!) 05:24, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

First, thank for your help.
Yes, this is my dream but I should learn more before I were capable to make it true. I planned to write about the whole civil war, including Tay Son-Nguyen lords, Tay Son-Le&Trinh, foreign inventions...
FYI, about the scholars whose books I used:
  • Phan Khoang was the Head of Department of History, University of Literature of Saigon (Republic of Vietnam). He is well-known in western academic world [3].
  • Ta Chi Dai Truong is also a famous pre-1975 scholar. One of his book, Lịch sử nội chiến Việt Nam 1771-1802, brought him a lot of trouble [4] but it was republished again in Vietnam in 2007. University of Michigan still holds one copy of this book
  • Huynh Minh is also a well-known pre-1975 history-reseacher. Some of his book became the references in this book.
--Amore Mio (talk) 14:05, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
thanks for the book. Do people get in trouble for reading his "reactionary" works? YellowMonkey (cricket calendar poll!) 03:21, 6 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know much about it and my lecturers always evaded to answer or talked around when I asked them about it. But as far as I know, everyone are free to read, free to use it as reference or do anything they want as long as you don't drag the government's things into the topic. The censorship, particularly in history study, is existent but not as strict as it used to be (for example, new version of historical textbook stopped calling Gia Long "reactionary feudal ruler"). Moreover, I still could find some pre-1975 books in state-libraries and old-book stores. --Amore Mio (talk) 04:49, 6 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have just added them into the contest. Thank for your guide.--Amore Mio (talk) 09:25, 9 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sir, I have been in contact with Mattisse regarding the above arbitration. Mattisse has indicated that it may be necessary to present evidence regarding a previous matter in which you were able to identify several sock puppets who were hounding them. Mattisse indicates that they find the matter to be still at least somewhat grating to this day. I was wondering whether you would be willing to present some evidence regarding that matter should the case develop in such a way that such evidence is indicated. Regarding reverting of my recent edits[edit]

You seem to be highly ignorant about Maratha history and I would like to advise you to concentrate on your Cricket and leave the History part on us. On what basis did you revert all my edits? I’m not biased and don’t have a non-neutral point of view, trust me on that. Can you kindly enlist the facts mentioned in the article by me, which you found inaccurate? I would like to know why didn’t you just write ridiculous personal POV instead of what has been written. Are you trying to suggest anything? It’s very unethical. With the language that you are using I will be compelled into complaining to Wikipedia if you continue with such talk.Kesangh (talk) 08:56, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Question[edit]

Hi there. Regarding this edit, is it normal to delist articles before their review is complete? There seems to be a discrepancy now because some of these article's talk pages (e.g. Talk:Ben Gurion International Airport) still proclaim that they are featured articles, but they are not listed on WP:FA. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 08:41, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oh no, it's because the bot does the star-removing, talk page readjustments and colouring off of the FAR review. There is sometimes a lag of up to a day or two. YellowMonkey (cricket calendar poll!) 01:34, 13 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

#wikipedia-en-unblock connect received a message from the above user claiming to be totally innocent. While that's not by any means a new excuse, he would like clarification about what led to the block, claiming to have stuck to one account and has done no wrongdoing. Just for your info. :) Thanks, PeterSymonds (talk) 21:03, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think it is clearly a meatpuppet or throwaway sock from an internet forum. I think if you look at it's contribs you will agree. YellowMonkey (cricket calendar poll!) 01:34, 13 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

sockblock tag?[edit]

Could you add {{sockblock|Strider11}} to User talk:Teckgeek, or add some notice there? It's confusing to people when there is no notice at all in the talk page.

Also, as an aside, he created a few of wikiprojects with a very narrow scope. Some of those got other participants, but other had no participants apart from himself. I suppose that they are not speedable? Should I send the lot to MfD or should I try to get participants for them?
