Major crashes?[edit]

I flew into an airport in Taiwan in 1978. I don't remember which one (I was 7 or 8 years old then), but there were buildings near the end of the runway, which from where I sat it looked liked the plane barely cleared. The instant the plane was wheels down, the pilot had the thrust reversers on - all the way down the runway, through a big U-turn and still slowing down. I remember being pressed forward hard against the seatbelt all the way until the plane stopped. Later the same day for takeoff, the plane was positioned as close as possible to the start of the runway with the engines screaming at full throttle. It was like a dragstrip launch. ;) IIRC, not too many years later a plane failed to miss the buildings. I dunno if the runway was extended or if the airport was closed after that. I heard some other people saying they hated flying in and out of that airport due to the short runway and the buildings that made it even worse. Bizzybody (talk) 10:44, 28 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
