Category updates??[edit]

I think removing the first category is reasonable but the others can stay for now; I also don't know if some of the categories refer to the year of the ceremony or the year of the work being recognized. RunningTiger123 (talk) 17:20, 28 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

New table format[edit]

From reading comments at this article's ITN nomination (link) is the sheer number of tables cluttering the page. To help fix this, I've made a new set of tables at my user sandbox that combines some of the tables. Before I try adding them here, I'm open to suggestions or feedback. I was hesitant before looking at your sandbox because I thought you meant the category tables as well (and I think those are probably fine the way they are), but you're just talking about the tables under "Nominations and wins by program" and "Nominations and wins by network" afaics, right? If yes, I would agree that there are too many tables and think yours would be an improvement (the "<5" looks a bit odd but otherwise they look great). I'm also wondering whether the whole thing with "major" wins/noms/categories should be considered or at least borders on original research in the first place (I haven't looked at all cited sources and am not familiar with previous discussions on this issue, so please correct me, but the sources cited for your sandbox tables don't make this distinction afaict)? The "major" column is how these articles have historically listed multiple wins/noms. Older lists only include totals from the main categories, presumably because those are easier to find and calculate. When I started rewriting the lists for submission to FLC (example), I added the overall totals but kept the major totals as well, since both totals can receive coverage. For instance, Variety has articles focusing on both counts from this year (major, total). I think a better word than "major" would help – maybe "broadcast" or "telecast" wins/noms? Though that might not transfer well to older lists with less telecast info. We could also cut the "major" column from these lists entirely, but that would probably need a wider discussion because it's harder to source totals including Creative Arts Emmys for older ceremonies.

As for the "<5", I didn't want to imply those were all of the programs with 4/3/2 nominations, so I deliberately formatted it differently. But obviously I'm open to different options, or maybe that point is only possibly confusing to me and 4/3/2 are fine. (Also, I added the cutoff at 5 total noms pretty arbitrarily in the rewrite linked above, so that could probably change – though some sources such as Deadline use the same cutoff by happy coincidence.)
