Dates for original members?[edit]

The article says that the Beethoven quartet premiered 13 of Shostakovich's quartets; however, right after that, it lists the quartets as being 2 through 13 - 12 quartets. Which information is wrong? The number of premiered quartets or the list? Mctanaka (talk) 16:57, 15 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

They did not premiere quartet no.1, but I think they did premiere quartet 14 in 1973 (our article on the work doesn't say who premiered it, more research is needed). Quartet No.15 however was premiered by the Taneev Quartet of Leningrad (also a fine ensemble, this editor has quite a few of their recordings- the first-ever complete sets of Sergei Taneev and Nicolai Myaskovsky's string quartets, e.g.) Schissel | Sound the Note! 13:24, 13 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Re quartet 14 there's something in a book about Shostakovich about its premiere having been postponed, but I can't seem to find out more. There was also a fairly notable late-19th century Beethoven Quartet ensemble (mentioned in newspapers and even some music dedications) (article on Gustav Dannreuther at Encyclopedia.com: "In 1884 he founded the Beethoven String Quartet of N.Y.
