Native language[edit]

Date of birth[edit]

According to these sources [1], [2] he was born in 1808, not in 1804. I changed that.(HerkusMonte (talk) 10:11, 19 June 2008 (UTC))[reply]

Going with The New Grove here, which gives (b Königsberg [now Kaliningrad], 1 Oct 1804; d St Louis, 17 May 1872).. It's possible that this is a misprint, or has been superseded with new knowledge, but I'd like to have solid proof of that in a paper or something in order to challenge it. I have a copy of the 1996 Harvard Dictionary of Music and the 1978 Baker's Biographical Dictionary of Musicians at home, I'll check them tonight. Chubbles (talk) 15:02, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

They give conflicting results; Harvard has 1804 and Baker's 6 has 1808. Would like to see what a newer copy of Baker's says, as I have a sneaking suspicion Harvard and Grove are working with more up-to-date info. Chubbles (talk) 05:43, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
