Alternative dates for the trip to New Orleans[edit]

Stumbling about the internet I encountered slightly earlier dates for the historic voyage of the Enterprise to New Orleans. The accounts are from Florence L. Dorsey, Master of the Mississippi, which gives the departure from Pittsburg as 1 Dec 1814, and arrival in New Orleans as 14 Dec 1814, a voyage of 15 days, and has Shreve there in time to command a battery in the Battle of New Orleans. The book is heavily footnoted and claims to use primary references, but have yet to get my hands on it and check the veracity. Tomligon (talk) 03:07, 4 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have a copy of Dorsey's book and it's true that she used primary sources. However, regarding her chronology of the historic voyage of the Enterprise to New Orleans was not based on primary sources. Fortunately, several extant primary sources do document the chronology of the Enterprise's voyage and are cited in the Enterprise (1814) article:

1. Dec. 10, 1814 arrives at Brownsville, Pa.

2. Dec. 21, 1814 departs Pittsburgh loaded with war materiel

3. Dec. 28, 1814 passes Louisville, Ky.

4. Jan. 9, 1815 arrives at New Orleans
