Capitalization question[edit]

Why is Chapuys’ last name not capitalized? I cannot figure out to make the edit. In the main article edit it would appear that “Chapuys” should show in the main article with a capital “C”.--Francis Burdett 19:04, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Rewrote most of the Article[edit]

I rewrote most of the article according to the literature available. Removed the 'Further reading'-bit as it wasn't really clear. Removed the tag as most information (according to literature and first-hand sources) should now be correct. Thomas Antonius 13:10, 8 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Was he a Bishop?[edit]

IMDB's cast for the Tudors describes him as "Ambassador Bishop Chapuys", but Wikipedia says nothing about him being a bishop. Either IMDB is wrong, or this Wikipedia article would seem to need amending - which is it? Tlhslobus (talk) 16:05, 4 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure what the Tudors made him out to be (never having seen the show), but Chapuys was not a bishop, so this article is correct in that regard. Chapuys's direct predecessor as Imperial Ambassador to England, Íñigo López de Mendoza y Zúñiga was a bishop though, so perhaps that's where the confusion came from. Thanks, Thomas. 'The Tudors' itself doesn't make him appear as a bishop, just the cast list on IMDB (Internet Movie Database, www.imdb.com), both for the series as a whole, and for most (but not all) of the individual episodes in which he appears. He's in something like 24 out of 38 episodes, and described as "Ambassador Bishop Chapuys" for perhaps 16 of those 24, with the others being either "Eustache Chapuys" or just plain "Chapuys". I don't know whether the error was created at IMDB or at whoever created the original credits for the show. I guess I'll have to try to take the matter up with IMDB, or maybe I should just be disgracefully or sensibly 'lazy', and forget about it on the basis that trying to fix it is perhaps more hassle than it's worth. Lauren Mackay failed reference[edit]

I tagged the reference stating that Chapuys only referred to her as such [i.e., Anne Boleyn as concubine] on a handful of occasions with {{Failed verification}}. Here are two two quotes from Mackay in which she states the opposite: He now referred more frequently to Anne as "the concubine"… and: Chapuys' crude titles for her in his letters and correspondence: "La Putain" (the Whore) or "the Concubine"… Emphasis as in Mackay's original.
