I can't track down the following claim in print anywhere, but someone going by the name Jamie Pilgreen commented on Youtube (for the a video that features the audio of "Groove Me" that the bass player on this session was someone named James East. Here's the claim, from the Youtube comments:

"My Dad wrote and recorded that bass line [for Groove Me" in less that 30 minutes in the studio. He was a studio musician and lived in Natchez at the time. They actually called him to come in because their original bass player couldn't make it for some reason. Oh, my Dads name is James East and he got paid about $10 for his short time in the studio. And that's all he's ever gotten. lol! I should be rich because of this song. But it's ok.
