Possibilities (Reasons)?[edit]

Laser manufactures have been unable reliably mass produce the required short wavelength(s) (ie. blue, blue-green) at the higher power output required.

The standard was supposed to be finalized by now but has not yet been published.

The Company is having financial problems.

Too many new standards have been coming out.

I love the image of the card / reader in the link. The card is clearly perspex plastic with foil stuck on. The "drive" is the front part of an ATM card reader, glued to a nondescript box! Was there ever ANY evidence that this thing really existed? Or did someone just hide an SD card in a box? Optware still in business? (2015-07-09)[edit]

Given that searches don't reveal a way to get to an Optware website and the link in the article is broken, maybe the page should be updated to say it is unlikely that HVC will ever be released.
