Links[edit]

Hello all. I've cleaned up the link section a little... deleted a couple of less relevant links, repaired some broken links, and added a few new ones. One question: I think Bozeman's master's thesis on JPUSA should be part of the links, but can't get the 'wiki-code' (for lack of a better word) to work right, I believe because there's two "http://" in the URL. Does anyone know how to solve this? What I've tried using appears below:

Bozeman's 1990 Master's Thesis on JPUSA]

More importantly, I'd like to flag the fact that (full disclosure) I wrote one of the links I've added ("My Year at JPUSA"). I believe this is a worthwhile/notable link, but feel free to disagree with me, and delete it if you wish (though I'd like it if you would discuss it here first). I think it's unique and relevant in that it's a detailed (100+ pages with the footnotes) attempt to accurately describe JPUSA today, how it works, and what it's like to live there. To be honest I think it's the most comprehensive source out there on JPUSA as it exists today (and I feel like I know because I tried to read anything and everything available on the group). It's also relatively objective, at least in that it was completed for a serious academic course (a 1st year anthropology course run by Carleton University). It's not as rigorous as as Master's or PhD. thesis (like Bozeman's, which is great but dated), but I recently had the prof for the class tell me that it could easily serve as the raw data/fieldwork for a Master's thesis. This suits me fine because one of the purposes I hope it serves is a conversational, accessible source of information for those thinking of joining JPUSA -- from a source that isn't JPUSA itself, or the 'ah! they're a crazy cult' crowd.

If I have time, I'm hoping to do some work on the main page itself, which could use a lot of work, I'd say -- a history of JPUSA, and a slightly more organized (and possibly more balanced) section dealing with JPUSA controversies, for starters. The main planned sources would be the JPUSA history published by Cornerstone, Bozeman's thesis, the Religious Movement's profile, and my paper. Now if anyone wants to beat me to the punch, feel free. Cleaned up the links section a bit, once again. I've consolidated a few of the links critical of JPUSA, so that there's a little less redundancy. The apologetics page itself is largely a collection of critical links so I have retained that, while Rick Ross' site is frankly not very high quality, and the NPR article section is not very well-researched or comprehensive, (the Chicago Tribune articles referred to in the body of the article itself, and given in the reference section are far more effective, in my opinion). The goal has been to maintain an even balance of outside 'objective' (e.g. academic), outsider/anti-JPUSA, and insider/pro-JPUSA sources.
I've also added a recent academic article on JPUSA, and figured out the problem with link to Bozeman's thesis, so it's now there as well. Strenghthening the main article remains on my to-do list, but not sure if I'll get to it anytime soon. Genesiswinter (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 03:30, 9 October 2010 (UTC).[reply]

Herrin's departure[edit]

As of today it reads "Johnny Herrin has since resigned from his leadership position and left the church" and when I asked for a reference, https://www.linkedin.com/pub/john-herrin/26/7b7/8b9 was provided. That reference states Board Member/Director Jesus People USA February 1972 – February 2015 (43 years 1 month) and Director Jesus People USA February 1972 – Present (43 years 8 months). Clearly contradictory information. Do we have a non-primary source that supports the statement? If not, it should be removed. Walter Görlitz (talk) 06:49, 19 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Addition of a History Heading[edit]

I think there should be a History Heading replacing/integrating the Background and Legacy sections. See Hillsong Church for an idea of what that looks like. I would write it myself, but I am sure there is someone much more qualified --Wesborden (talk) 07:45, 16 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The question is where would the sources come from? Walter Görlitz (talk) 14:16, 16 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
