Dispute accuracy[edit]

This seniority rules used on this page are anachronistic. See Talk:List of United States Senators in the 18th Congress by seniority. -Rrius (talk) 19:07, 15 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • The alternative seniority rules used in the Senate's chronological guide are the only source which has been cited, several years after I pointed out the problem (in the talk page Rrius links to above). I strongly suspect that the system used from 1959 (and for some unknown time before) was not in use in the 18th century but, in the absence of a definitive source, I have thought it appropriate to give a secondary possible rank in the revised table. --Gary J (talk) 10:50, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
    • I notice that this was the only very early Congress seniority article where someone had attempted to apply the 1959 method of calculating senatorial seniority. Before I altered it the order of names, for senators from March 4, 1795, followed the alphabetical order; but the numbering was in the 1959 onwards system. --Gary J (talk) 11:15, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
