Close paraphrasing and tone (August 2014)[edit]

http://shanghaiist.com/2011/09/24/lee_kuan_yew_taiwans_been_independe.php The condemnation came swiftly, with Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhang Qiyue accusing Lee Junior of "hurting the feelings of 1.3 billion Chinese".

Singapore’s policy toward Taiwan is an example of the tightrope that Southeast Asian countries must walk in the new era of an increasingly powerful China asserting itself http://singaporenewsalternative.blogspot.sg/2010/08/singapores-tightrope-walk-on-taiwan.html

Full of "inspirational" speeches like "The successful implementation of this economic partnership would mean that both countries will enjoy free trade between one another", "It also signals that Taiwan-Singapore ties are strong", "Even so, Singapore has always wanted to maintain its warm ties with Taiwan in order to show its neutrality on cross-strait relations. Although it officially supports the ‘One China’ policy, it must also be noted that Singapore is the only foreign country to currently own military bases in Taiwan and it continues to send its troops there for an annual military exercise known as Exercise Starlight (星光計畫)"

Meetings and business transactions between Singapore and China were reportedly frozen overnight http://shanghaiist.com/2011/09/24/lee_kuan_yew_taiwans_been_independe.php 175.156.99.200 (talk) 15:25, 22 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The statements you've referred to as being "inspirational'speeches'" are not inspiring. Rather, they are factual, though the second and third statements were sweeping ones.

In addition, you've mentioned that Singapore's sending of troops to Taiwan for Exercise Starlight (星光計畫) should be noted. The article now reflects this.

Also, please provide a direct link to a news source if possible. It was misleading to find that the actual news source was hidden in a blog that seeming lacks credibility. Ethanoltrain (talk) 15:14, 29 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Strongly Oppose Singapore has adapted a different diplomatic approach to Taiwan as opposed to that of China, which makes it notable enough to have a standalone article. Arguments about statehood should not cloud this decision (I note that articles such as Palestine–United Kingdom relations and Taiwan–United States relations, which share similar issues, continue to remain seperate articles from say, United States- China relations.)--Lionratz (talk) 05:46, 1 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
