Elizabeth[edit]

The Plot section says "Elizabeth, a former teacher", but she she can drive a tank, travelled widely for interrogations during the Cold War, and has many mysterious and useful connections - so "former teacher" is clearly only a cover story and perhaps one of many? On Page 9 PC Donna De Freitas considers Elizabeth's previous occupation: Elizabeth looks to Donna like the sort of teacher who terrifies you all year but then gets you a grade A and cries when you leave. On Page 18 Joyce refers to Elizabeth's occupation in her diary: I'm not supposed to say what Elizabeth used to do for a living, even though she does go on about it herself at times.
