Contested deletion[edit]

This article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because... (your reason here) --StrictlyRebel (talk) 20:57, 31 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

This comedian just had his first stand up show and is on NetFlix, there is nothing about him scarcely and it would be useful for people to learn more about him. I am working on getting more sources and info. I cannot dedicate a whole day to getting it fully sourced. I will add an image and more sources soon.

Add the word “racist” in the lead sentence. 173.73.149.196 (talk) 03:05, 13 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Controversy[edit]

The controversy section would be improved if it included some of Hinchcliffe's statements about the incident, especially considering it includes response commentary from Dang. Currently it is a biased one-sided take on the incident in question. Brakoholic (talk) 13:57, 2 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The article leaves it unclear as to whether Hinchcliffe was obviously joking when he uttered that phrase, which he was. 71.247.0.98 (talk) 23:41, 4 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

youtube video and commentary and edit warring[edit]

Ok, make your case here please. Malerooster (talk) 00:59, 4 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

What is the point of this? This very 'talk' page has a request for exactly what I've posted
"The controversy section would be improved if it included some of Hinchcliffe's statements about the incident, especially considering it includes response commentary from Dang. Currently it is a biased one-sided take on the incident in question. Brakoholic (talk) 13:57, 2 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

rac·ism
noun
prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism by an individual, community, or institution against a person or people on the basis of their membership in a particular racial or ethnic group, typically one that is a minority or marginalized.
The key word there is 'typically' - Dang mentions race/ethnicity MORE than 15 times in 10 minutes...Dang decided to pander, and it backfired because Tony took it the other direction...which backfired because Dang recorded and uploaded the one-sided version of the events....which backfired because Tony's popularity increased afterward, while Dang has *NO UPCOMING SHOWS* https://www.pengdangcomedy.com/ ....it's almost as though attempting to sabotage someone can sabotage yourself!
The Heading for that section is "Controversy"; how in the world can someone justify not showing the entire un-edited video? Context matters, and the section as it currently sits could more appropriately be described as 'Biased Racial Incident'....it does not included any CONTRAVENING information, just negativity about Tony and none about Dang. 2600:8803:AC00:53:9567:3AE4:3935:4654 (talk) 01:22, 4 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That YouTube video is a wp:self-published source. Not an acceptable source for such criticism. See WP:BLPSPS. Adakiko (talk) 01:44, 4 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
"Self-published expert sources may be considered reliable when produced by an established expert on the subject matter, whose work in the relevant field has previously been published by reliable, independent publications."
Ari Shaffir meets this criteria; it's also fairly plaintive that videos are self-evident...the content is the incident, in this case.
Further, Dang's video was self-published and *is* linked. Get it together y'all.
The video from Ari illuminates the actual series of events; it is *more* relevant than a clipped version. 2600:8803:AC00:53:9567:3AE4:3935:4654 (talk) 03:34, 4 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Just wanted to back the point that the video from Ari was indeed a better portrayal of everything. Literally just shows the whole set without commentary. Wkpdsrnm2023 (talk) 05:47, 13 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This is why there is so little respect for this platform. The most hateful people without friends, having nothing better to do, will override corrections and context to try to feel powerful. Tony's comments on himself seem highly relevant. 2604:CA00:119:814C:0:0:60:6DE4 (talk) 20:15, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This is comical: what a one-sided, obviously-slanted take on the issue. Congrats on contributing to the decline in this website’s reputation and quality. 97.94.101.175 (talk) 06:33, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hinchcliffe on Triggernometry[edit]

Tony Hinchcliffe tells this story with Dang on the British podcast Triggernometry (October 29, 2023) and if he is correct, the entry here leaves out a lot: Dang did a very anti-Whites rant right before H's. own set and Hinchcliffe basically just responded in kind. H. also says, that Dang had refused to talk to him, when a storm was brewing on H.'s Twitter account, well before the shit really hit the fan. The whole thing died, Hinchcliffe says, after his copy of both (uncut) sets was put out on Ari Shariff's Twitter account.--Ralfdetlef (talk) 04:25, 30 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I found that the part in the Triggernometry episode between 46:22 and 47:02 starts here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5DtpgTOfA4&t=2782s, tells us that Tony was basically responding to the material Deng had been doing. This is the exact material Tony was talking about (Peng performing it here): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XizKz6y0LU&t=382s, from 6:22 to 10:00. Shouldn't both of these sources be used in this article? Wkpdsrnm2023 (talk) 09:22, 30 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, why was my edit deleted with the video where it has the material of both comedians?
It is in youtube, but Apparently I cannot post the video here.
The whole wiki page seems very onesided. It should be more neeutra. Kin1793 (talk) 14:04, 30 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, needs a secondary source like an article in a newspaper or a magazine or something like that rather than just a youtube video I think. I can't find anything other than the Triggernometry episode. Wkpdsrnm2023 (talk) 07:33, 5 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Tony's personal response on a podcast shouldn't require secondary sourcing--I'll try to get around to making an attempt here. Thanks for establishing the timestamps. SmolBrane (talk) 16:04, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Tony was dropped by his agency, and is now represented by a much bigger agency. Tony has tried to reach out to Dang Peng multiple times and Dang Peng did not reply. Tony did a set where it was clear that he was referencing Dang Peng set where he was insulting comedically white people.

There is a whole 1 hour podcast showing Tony's side of the story, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5DtpgTOfA4. What is written below is very one sided and needs to be more balanced! Otherwise this article is for the news and not the unbiased Wikipedia.

In May 2021, Hinchcliffe was videotaped insulting Peng Dang, an Asian American comedian who had introduced Hinchcliffe after performing the previous set at Vulcan Gas Company in Austin. Hinchcliffe said Dang was a "filthy little fucking chink", followed with a series of Asian stereotypes in a mock Chinese accent, and lashed out at audience members who laughed at Dang's jokes, branding them as "race traitors". The video was later shown on Twitter, which went viral and received criticism.[18] As a result, Hinchcliffe was dropped by his agency WME, removed from shows scheduled with Joe Rogan in Austin, and the Austin nightclub Antones announced that it would no longer be involved with Hinchcliffe or his Kill Tony live show.[18][19][20]

Vulture reported that during his set, Hinchcliffe stated that Chinese people came to Austin because of the bats and criticized offended audience members for "believing he was serious".[21] Dang stated he did not receive any apology from Hinchcliffe following the incident.[21] Kin1793 (talk) 08:39, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Following the released video of Peng Dang's comedy set, that was immediately prior to the set Tony did with the controversial jokes, Peng stopped his media tour. In the unedited video of both sets, Tony was repeating what Peng had said and then was chastising the crowd for laughing at stereotypes.

Further evidence showed that Tony indeed tried to contact Peng multiple times as did other colleagues. Peng has been since accused of character assassination and a false collaborative cancellation effort.

Tony Hinchcliffe has since become a star in his podcast and continues to roast fellow comedians at an even greater audience level than before the incident. 2604:3D08:9181:1200:49C6:22CC:4C9E:9DD8 (talk) 22:59, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The page is very biased. It does not reflect what happened after the full video was released of Tony's set. It does not reflect the Twitter accounts that were releasing tweets even before the videos were released. ErskineJ (talk) 05:00, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
