Untitled

Did my best to sort out the confusing, but notable history of this University. I also added a few mini-comments about famous alumni who attended the school in early years but were key figures in American history. -- Bobak 19:06, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

In the part regarding the Greek life, I think there is not enough clarity regarding the "Animal House" comment. While it may have had a reputation as being a wild school at one time, I think this should have been phrased in a different manner.

Censorship controversy

Can we get some dialog going on the censorship controversy? I don't know enough about it to know if it belongs or if it doesn't, but I'm tired of seeing it added and deleted with no discussion. Mascot

History

On Bacon College, it is incorrect that it was "founded by Baptists". Baptists and Campbellites (Christian Church, Disciples of Christ) were fighting for control of Georgetown College in the 1830's. The Baptists eventually won that fight. The Campbellites left Georgetown College, moved a few blocks away, and founded Bacon College as a Campbellite-controlled college. Though it may be true that "former Baptists", who joined the Campbellites, founded Bacon College.

Transylvania has been affiliated with the Disciples of Christ since 1865. This section does not mention that.Sajita (talk) 16:05, 7 September 2020 (UTC)

Campus

The campus section is kind of bare bones. I am planning on adding more information about some of the more important buildings and maybe removing buildings that have very little information. What does everyone think? --User:transypr 13:54, 28 October 2010

Recent edit warring

An unregistered editor has been engaged in an edit war to insert material related to some recent news reports about a student who was harassed. It may be appropriate to mention this incident in this article. However, the specific text that the unregistered editor has repeatedly try to insert (a) is nowhere close to neutral and (b) not at all an accurate summary of the one source that he or she has cited. The particular way that the material has been written also makes it a WP:BLP issue. These are all huge problems that must be resolved for any material that can be added to or retained in this or any article. ElKevbo (talk) 14:38, 15 September 2017 (UTC)

@ElKevbo: I have semi-protected the page over the weekend and hidden the revisions that referred to a student by a negative term not supported by the source, which is, as you point out, a WP:BLP issue. There is one revision where the student's name remains visible without the unsupported appellation. Do you think the name (and hometown) of the student should be completely removed? @Acdixon: Thanks. I think that an abundance of caution - which is the spirit and letter of BLP - would call for that information to be revdeleted. It may end up back in the article later if we have a productive discussion here that comes to the conclusion that it's appropriate and necessary but I think that erring on the side of privacy would be wise. Proposed merge with Judy Gaines Young Book Award

Award is lacking significant coverage in independent, secondary sources. Most of the sources are local. Citrivescence (talk) 04:19, 28 March 2019 (UTC)

Support - I agree with the merge proposal, because the award does not seem to have been noticed as an independently notable event outside of the university. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (Talk|Contribs) 19:14, 1 April 2019 (UTC)
