What should I do?

Don't panic; deletions can take a little longer at Commons than they do on Wikipedia. This gives you an opportunity to contest the deletion (although please review Commons guidelines before doing so). The best way to contest this form of deletion is by posting on the image talk page.

If the image is non-free then you may need to upload it to Wikipedia (Commons does not allow fair use)
If the image isn't freely licensed and there is no fair use rationale then it cannot be uploaded or used.
If the image has already been deleted you may want to try Commons Undeletion Request

Why are images of license plates being deleted?[edit]

I'm sure that this topic has been addressed (possibly on another talk page somewhere).. but it's an old subject. If memory serves me right - the main reason was that the individual states themselves have the copywrite laws on the images of the plates that they produce, thus not allowing individuals to take pictures and post them here on Wiki as their own image.

However - with that being said, you can go to several other states, and view lots of images listed there on their particular article. I don't understand then why some of these states appear empty and void of all images, where others have pictures? We need a way to legally get the right back to be able to post these images on these articles otherwise in my opinion it doesn't make the article as noteworthy. Formatting/Layout of the article[edit]

FYI - I've looked at the Alabama article (and other states), and I'm attempting to put this into the same format as most states appear to continue with consistency and standardization among all the states. Many of the older plates will most likely be repaints, but if people have original paint pictures to contribute to the wiki commons, that would be appreciated. Request to add sticker section[edit]

I would like to see a sticker section (with 3 tables: one for general stickers, one for special plate stickers, and one for others (such as apportioned, and non-expiring)). Is anyone willing to add it? If not, then I guess I will. Fwrrllwee (talk) 03:53, 18 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

New vintage black plate from 1968 is back[edit]

In 2023, The DMV brought the 1968 white on black plates back. So I think it should be in the “Optional plates” section. Is anybody willing to add it? If not, I will then. Fwrrllwee (talk) 15:03, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Front license plates[edit]

Approximately a third of new cars dont have front license plates installed in spite of two plates being issued. A bill is being worked on for the 2024 state legislature that would phase out over the next year the front license plate, so the requirement will likely be similar to AZ where it will only be required in the back. 76.23.43.17 (talk) 00:35, 22 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
