Noteworthy former players[edit]

Alan Pardew finished his playing career at Barnet, he was a regular starter while he was there between 1995 and 1997.rudebwoyben

Albert Adomah is Number 7. It said so in the latest Barnet Programme at home to Bristo Rovers in the fa cup on saturday.

I have added a new section for Barnet Managers - believe I have last 30 years correct, but obviously there are still names to add prior to this. Added brief updates Alan Pardew & Alan Mullery pages. Looking at Tony Cottee page which says he resigned! from Barnet, regards, Kickit

Club v Council[edit]

Whoever has stated that that club will move to a new stadium at Canons Park in 2007-08 is way wide of the mark. There are no plans to build a Football League ground at Canons Park. The deal struck between Wealdstone FC, the London Borough of Harrow and Barnet FC explicitly states that the new ground cannot be used for league football. Barnet's involvement in this project is confined to building training facilities for the squad and a youth academy.


Currently the last sentence of this section starts "There is now in 2013" indicating it hasn't been updated since then. It and other phrases - has been quashed; have always been; current site; have so far; has taken - need to be modified. Mcljlm (talk) 12:50, 30 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

An anon recently changed these stats on the article (see here). I've reverted them, since the idea of someone scoring 400 goals in 6 seasons is, well ridiculous unless you're Dixie Dean - so this looks lijke vandalism. Location Location Location.[edit]

For those that don't know:

North Barnet (Chipping Barnet) - Brunswick Park, Coppetts, East Barnet, High Barnet, Oakleigh, Totteridge, Underhill. Geographically still tie into Hertfordshire. In 1965 it was just the administration of these area's that moved to London to minimise the administration costs of Hertford. Exactly. Barnet is no longer officially in Hertfordshire (sadly), and as such should be listed only as Greater London. It is in neither the traditional nor ceremonial county of Herts for official purposes, though still has historic ties with it. Grutness...wha? 23:27, 13 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Govvy you seem to have a bee in your bonnet about this issue. Wikipedia has a clear policy on this which we should adhere to. Barnet is in London and has been so for 43 years: you may not like it but it's true (though I don't really understand why someone wouldn't want to be part of such a great city). Thus any references to Barnet as a present settlement (including its football team) should describe it as being in London, not Hertfordshire. Postal counties are even described as 'former' by Royal Mail, because they are no longer required on postal addresses. Whether a place is in a London Borough is the deciding factor, not an optional component of a postal address which is historic anyway. Not that the following are deciding factors, but Barnet is also covered by TFL, the Metropolitan Police, London Fire Brigade and Ambulance, the 020 telephone code, etc: it has had no real links to Hertfordshire at all for almost half a century. And whoever wrote that 'Barnet is in both London and Hertfordshire': I'm afraid that isn't possible, because London and Hertfordshire are two separate administrative areas. Also 'Greater London' simply means the administrative area that is London - it does not imply that Greater London is somehow outside 'proper' London. Trivia[edit]

Removed this section as proposed by wikipedia. Two items remain to be added... any suggestions where?

  • The long standing BBC Football commentator John Motson is a supporter, or at least has strong ties with the club having worked for the Finchley and Barnet Press in his early days as a journalist. He seems to mention Barnet at every possible moment, even when commentating on England World Cup matches.
  • A frequent highlight of Barnet's pre-season programme is a traditional friendly against top north London side Arsenal. Arsenal's training ground is at Shenley, Hertfordshire, just to the northwest of Barnet and their reserve team plays its home games at Underhill.

possibly spurious "fact" in text[edit]

I've just removed part of the section on the club's nickname and crest from the text - it's very non-encyclopedic in style, and worse, I can find no verification of it anywhere. It was added by an anon almost exactly a year ago. Here's the text in question:

This Badge was designed by the chairman at the time Mr Sidney Robert Price. Mr Sidney Robert Price has only recently been recognised as the man behind the Barnet Badge. A fact how ever well known by generations of Prices' from Sidney Robert Price down to Barry Price, James Price, James Price jnr, Jack Price and Harry Price. A part of Barnet Football Club history will live on forever with the Price Family.

Lead[edit]

The lead could do with a tidy-up from someone who knows the subject better than me. It includes a potted history, but as it stands it's rather random: it starts with a failed Conference playoff in 2004, describes promotion a year later (only then explaining that the club had been in the League before; no mention of that promotion), and then darts back to events in the 1992–93 season. A brief history in chronological order, in particular summarising Barnet's periods in and our of the League, would make more sense and be more representative; this smacks of WP:RECENTISM. Barnet F C is no longer in Barnet[edit]

I counted 5 different IPs with the same agenda, I don't know if it's one person but maybe you should create an account for editing, using citation and writing an article that is neutral. But upon the evidence from sources I see, it's clear to me the club has moved and operates out of Edgware, that as much says Barnet is based in Edgware to me. Reverted back for the following reasons:
1) they are listed as development squad players on the link in the section heading
2) inappropriate to create a separate article for reserve/academy players for a League 2 club with a relatively small squad
3) academy was only founded in the late 2000s so little scope for including academy graduates
4) U23s don't play in a recognised league

Have you read the source linked to in the development squad heading? That is how the club categorises them. They are only "first team" in the sense that they are too old for the youth team, and don't play frequently if at all for the first team, which is why the club categorises them in that way.
