pages in question: Flashinpon's Quest user generated games from the conflict of interest page: "Editing in an area in which you have professional or academic expertise is not, in itself, a conflict of interest." Simply because I am a fan of gay porn and that doesn't mean I'm somehow 'biased' in any way. It does mean that I know a thing or two about it. Web-based publications (not blogs) are considered reliable sources for web-based phenomena, such as this ongoing revolution in the gaming industry. Perhaps if you'd read some of the sources I quote instead of dismissing them as 'just websites' you'd know that. I'd like to assume you're acting 'in good faith' but it seems to me that you're just enjoying your chance to play the bully.

Question about BitGravity

Hey Accounting4Taste. I'd like your help in understanding why you removed my entry for BitGravity (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bitgravity). I know the founders of this new content delivery network that is innovating the way content is delivered. So as not to make it promotional or so it won't have any hyperbole about claims, I basically copied the structure and content for the entry for Edgecast http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EdgeCast. What criteria am I not following? Thanks. Lochinvar11 (talk) 17:01, 28 April 2008 (UTC)Lochinvar11

Request help deleting previous entries

When you have time, I would appreciate your assistance deleting all but my most current entry on the talk page for Ken Alibek http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Ken_Alibek. After I read my entries, I determined I could use even more neutral language than I had previously. Thanks very much for your help. Next Generation (talk) 06:03, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

Virtual Family Kingdom

Hello, Accounting4Taste. I would like to rewrite the previously deleted article "Virtual Family Kingdom", because it isn't just a website/blog/etc... It's a computer game, based on the Disney game Virtual Magic Kingdom. The game has a lot of history behind it, because it is made by former VMK players that are sad that the game (VMK) is being ended. Also, I would be great to write this article, because I'm good at writing articles about products/games (see Fly Fusion Pentop Computer, K12 Inc.) I've also contributed greatly to the VMK article. So, I'll write the article, and you can decide whether or not it's ok. --Listen to your Princess, dear Wikipedians. (talk) 13:02, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

I have found the article that you're talking about -- it took me a while, so ignore what I previously said here if you're looking at it. I didn't understand that you had not created or contributed to the Virtual Family Kingdom article, but now I do, and I realize that I deleted it. The reason I deleted it is because it didn't have any reliable sources that said that it was notable. Those two policies are crucial to every Wikipedia article, and I recommend that you read them before you go to a lot of trouble to re-write the article. Essentially, what you need to have is a piece of writing that an expert on the topic has written -- an expert who is not connected with the computer game -- saying that the game is somehow special or unusual. Blogs and writing from the website itself don't count; what works best is things like someone talking about the game in a magazine or a book or newspaper. If you re-write the article without adding those sources, someone else will delete it and you will probably be quite frustrated. You might want to read the article at Wikipedia:Your first article for some hints on how to go forward. Good luck with your contribution and if you have any further questions, I'll help you if I can. Jack Jachimowicz

while I thank you for the time you have taken to review this, I take issue, with your suggestion that I created multiple accounts to post feedback. I have better things to with my time than that.It also seems you are not following the wikipedia policy of assume good faith , which I just learned about from your own talk page. As for the entry. I will gather up the additional publications by Mr. Jachimowicz to show "notability"

Well, you'll have to pardon me for being cynical -- User:Sangeetaprasadwiki apparently created an account for the sole purpose of commenting favourably on the page in question and has contributed nothing since. Given your comment, I expect the user will continue to edit for years to come on topics that have nothing to do with your article, in which case you'll have to accept my apology. I look forward to seeing evidence of the notability of Mr. Jachimowicz other than self-publication. If you require any help interpreting Wikipedia's policies, be sure to let me know. Question about Talus?

I'm curious where the line between a company having blatant advertising and company history is drawn. You recently deleted a page about a small father and son company based in Montana (Talus Outdoor Tech) yet large companies such as Nike have pages with specific categories for Product and athletes. The Talus page went into depth about their ColdAvenger mask and the medical background behind it. How is this different from Nike's page discussing their new Hyperdunk shoe that released in April of 2008. Thet seems like pretty blatant advertising for a product and an entity. Adidas has an entire entry about their current advertising slogan and newly released clothing line, Advertising? Please be specific on what I can and can't say and where this line is draw because I feel that this is just up to your personal discretion and defeats the purpose of wikipedia entirely.

First of all, I'm sorry if this is somewhat delayed; I didn't notice your note for a while because it was placed at the top of my talk page, and I'm accustomed to finding new entries at the bottom. I must also say that I can't be extremely specific about your page because I cannot locate any entry for Talus Outdoor Tech or Talus Outdoor Technology; my edit history tells me that this note was left by User:70.96.247.29, but that account has no relevant pages attached to its history. In general, however, I can say that each page is assessed in and of itself, without reference to any other page -- so when assessing a page for Talus Outdoor Tech I would not compare it to Nike or any other page. That's covered by the statement at WP:WAX. The specific policy that covers advertising is located at WP:SPAM. In a general sense, large companies such as Nike have advertising campaigns that are discussed in articles in third-party sources -- for instance, a magazine like "Advertising Age" might do a cover story about a Nike campaign -- and I think you will find that if advertising is mentioned in articles, it's bolstered by references in reliable sources (independent third-party expert opinions) that attest to the notability of the company in general and refer to the specific advertising. You are correct to observe that this is "just up to [my] personal discretion" -- I'm a volunteer who was granted the power to make those decisions based on the history of my work for Wikipedia, and I am required to make those decisions based on specific policies like the one found at WP:SPAM. In general, I delete pages after they have been tagged by another editor who assesses the article and assigns a tag to it that suggests the reason for possible deletion; if I agree when I examine the article, I delete it. Although I'm unable to re-examine your article because I haven't been able to locate it, I will suggest that it meets the WP:SPAM criteria if the edit summary says that's why I deleted it. However, like every administrator, my decisions can be reviewed and overturned. After you've examined those criteria, if you'd like information about how to proceed to re-mount the article (in a sense, to "challenge" my decision) I will be happy to help you further. If you can provide the precise name of the article that was deleted, that would help. Accounting4Taste:talk 22:24, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
My apologies -- I've just located the article (I apparently made an error in capitalization). I'll examine the deleted article and comment further. Accounting4Taste:talk 22:25, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
Sorry for the delay. I've looked at both the articles that were deleted, yesterday and today. I agree with the administrator who deleted the brief paragraph you posted yesterday; it didn't assert any notability for the company, nor did it provide any references or sources. Today's article was quite a bit longer. However, it didn't really seem to be about the company -- it was about the company's product, the trademarked mask to which you referred above. Someone who read that article, looking for information about the company that purported to be there from the title, would not find any. There were no references or sources that verified your claims about the properties of your mask, and you made quite a few claims for its properties and efficacy, without any independent arm's-length third-party sources to verify those claims. That pretty much qualifies the article as an attempt to publicize your commercial product, and that qualifies it as advertising. One source of information that you may not have seen that may be of assistance to you is Wikipedia:Why was my article deleted? If you want the content of the second deleted article returned to a "sandbox" page so that you can attempt to remedy these deficiencies, I'm prepared to do that for you upon request. If you have any further questions or problems, feel free to leave me a note. Accounting4Taste:talk 23:15, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Thieves welcome

You can only have the page if you immediately and profusely thank the creator of the page that I stole it from (and modified a bit), User:jonny-mt. His is located here. My talkpage has been sooooo much cleaner after stealing his genius, and modifying the page to be "from the deleter" instead of "from the speedy tagger"... So, not a fan of the Haiku? Actually, I did have one user write me a very humorous one. End result? Action=undelete. But to each his own. A HAAA! that was the phrase that I've been looking for! You nailed it! "You got schooled" means exactly the same thing as "You got served". I knew there was an equivalent. I wouldn't say that haiku displease me, exactly, just that I'm much more willing to work with people if they do it out of article-space. My recent experience suggests that any poetry I received would be likely to start, "There was an admin from Nantucket..." and contain multiple instances of what I used to think of as "dirty words" before I started hearing them on cable TV. I'll live in hope, though -- perhaps I'll restore the plea for haiku. But then I'd probably have to respond in MY favourite verse form, and not many people are familiar with the clerihew. <grin> Accounting4Taste:talk 20:50, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

Glenn Ulrich

I see that the page I wrote about Glenn Ulrich was deleted. I would really like to get it reinstated. I assure you I have no connection to Glenn Ulrich or his company. I am a fan. I wrote a page about him a while ago and it was deleted because they thought I had an involvement or close connection to Glenn. I explained everything and I was told by nickleshoes that I could rewrite the page and I did. I waited a long time to re write the page so Glenn would have more accomplishments and would have made his actual pro wrestling debut. I think he is a notable person because Glenn made history as the youngest ever in the history of pro wrestling to run and promote wrestling shows, he is the only person to every go directly from the high school wrestling mat to the pro ring. He also successfully promoted the largest wrestling show ever run by a fed not sanctioned by one of the big two companies (WWE or TNA) this past April. He did that without using big name television talent. No one has ever put 1500 plus people in a place to see a wrestling show without big name talent or the backing of the big two feds, ever. These are remarkable and I believe notable items. If you google Glenn Ulrich you will find many items about him on wrestling websites as well as newspaper sites. He and his pro wrestling debut was written about in the community news in NJ this past week and they also mention the fact that this was the biggest show promoted without big name talent but that is a newspaper and is not online. I thought I did the references correctly but I guess maybe I did not. If you would tell me what to do, I will fix the article. Please restore the page for me or tell me what I have to do to get it restored. I will make whatever corrections you need me to make.

Thank you, --Joseph Doe (talk) 23:07, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

Well, I read the article again carefully and I still don't see that it meets our notability guidelines, but "made history as the youngest ever in the history of pro wrestling to run and promote wrestling shows" is enough of an assertion of notability that I realize I could be wrong. I think there's a specific line in the material about the notability of sports figures that deals with small wrestling leagues, but my memory may be wrong there too. Anyway, what I have done is, I have made a page for you at User:Joseph Doe/Sandbox that contains the deleted material -- this is known as a "Sandbox" page because it's not really part of Wikipedia, it lets you work on things over a period of time. What I recommend is that you get accurate citations for those mentions of this individual that you say exist on wrestling websites. Newspapers that are not online are also acceptable as citations. I suggest that you add as many possible citations for everything that you have said until the article is just as strong as you can possibly make it. Then, I offer you two choices. Choice one is that you can proceed without me, re-mount this article, and take the chance that you will have to go through this whole process again with another administrator -- remember, I may not be the only one who doubts the notability of this subject. Choice two is, remind me of this when you are ready to move forward and I will take the article through the Wikipedia:Articles for deletion process. This is more final, but it's also more dangerous -- if it fails, the article cannot ever be re-created, but if it passes, it will be VERY hard to delete it. I personally do not recommend this, because I think it's likely to fail, but hey, I could be wrong. So, let me know what you'd like to do and I'll help you if I can. If I were you, I'd start by reading this policy, this one (and track down the specific mentions about sports figures), and this one before you decide what you want to do. Also, Wikipedia:Why was my page deleted? may have helpful material for you. Whatever you decide is fine with me. I can't protect the article if you decide to recreate it, but I also won't delete it again (that only means, though, that there are more than 1500 administrators who might). Thanks for your note. I've re-read the article in question and have to say that I can't imagine any way in which an article about these statues could remain on Wikipedia unless you can come up with a significant amount of independent third-party expert opinion that testifies to their notability. For instance, if there were multiple articles in newspapers or magazines about Groggs that said how great they were, that would help. I recommend that you read our advertising policy for more information, and Wikipedia:Why was my article deleted? I think it is a legal threat to be honest with you...well in wording. Not only that but the guy seems determined to make an article..that if you continue to delete obviously needs to be deleted. I think I will spin around to AN/I. Has been kind of dry there lately. Thanks for the reassurance. I just was thinking it weird I keep popping in at random. Rgoodermote  00:02, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

Haha ok this is getting rediculous. Look, plain and simple, I was hired off of elance.com to make the article for $50. I just want the money. And I never got an explenation why it was deleted. Could you please tell me why so I can learn from it and try another article?

The best advice I can give you is read all the material that's been provided to you already at User talk:Mikequrto and Wikipedia:Your first article -- and give the money back. Getting paid for contributing articles breaks so many of our rules, it's not even worth listing them all. Accounting4Taste:talk 00:14, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

Conclusion

Your method is much better...mine..proves I am a reckless youth. The wording sounded to me like a legal threat and I jumped to conclusions. Sorry bout that. Anyways happy editing. Rgoodermote  00:16, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

<grin> Not at all. I'm always grateful when someone steps in to help me -- since we were both determined that Wikipedia was not going to get a spam article under any circumstances, and you were considerate enough to keep an eye open for vandalism on my talk page and elsewhere, I think your approach combined with mine are sufficient to get the job done once and for all. Neither of our approaches works all the time, and they're both worth trying. By the way, does your toolkit include rollback? I think you'd be a worthwhile candidate, and I've been meaning to find out how to grant it, if you're interested. Accounting4Taste:talk 00:19, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
Actually I do have rollback. It was granted after my first attempt at adminship. Thanks for asking though and thanks for the compliment. It means a lot coming from you. Rgoodermote  00:24, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
If there's anything I can do to be of assistance in your possible progress towards adminship, let me know. And if you have an RfA, I'd like to be informed of it so that I could comment; I absolve you in advance of RfA-spam or whatever it's called. Accounting4Taste:talk 00:26, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
I am actually being coached (if he is ever on) in preparation for my third attempt. Second attempt was withdrawn by the way. It is a long story but it had nothing to do with me getting non-support votes...I forgot to mark it draft and it got transcluded...so people were voting on the unfinished version. Um..random question..I have never heard of the term RfA-Spam before may I ask what it means. Rgoodermote  00:31, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

<undent>If it has not been done yet I placed the English language userbox on your userpage into a subpage of mine for transclusion. {{User:Rgoodermote/userboxes/english}} It was just bugging me as it was kind of a mess. If you wish for it to not exist just delete under User Request I will understand. Rgoodermote  02:02, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

O..that is actually a really good way of putting it. I just call it annoying. And thank you. When I try my third I will inform you. Hopefully it will be successful. There are a lot things I want to do to try and improve this project. You are kidding you do not know transclusion...well..I didn't either until I was testing something out of boredom. (e/C) The article would need to assert the notability of it's subject via reliable sources in a neutral way, not be promotional, and not be copyright infringement. (See WP:CSD for the full list). New Project

Myself and several other editors have been compiling a list of very active editors who would likely be available to help new editors in the event they have questions or concerns. As the list grew and the table became more detailed, it was determined that the best way to complete the table was to ask each potential candidate to fill in their own information, if they so desire. This list is sorted geographically in order to provide a better estimate as to whether the listed editor is likely to be active.

If you consider yourself a very active Wikipedian who is willing to help newcomers, please either complete your information in the table or add your entry. If you do not want to be on the list, either remove your name or just disregard this message and your entry will be removed within 48 hours. The table can be found at User:Useight/Highly Active, as it has yet to have been moved into the Wikipedia namespace. Thank you for your help. Useight (talk) 04:53, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

BattleGlobe

Hello Accounting4Taste.

I noticed that you deleted my recent article on the flash game BattleGlobe. In perusing the other entries of similar games that remain undeleted, I do not understand what the basis for deleting this one is. I made an effort to keep the article informative with no boasting or advertisement language. I believe the game is noteworthy in that it is a browser game that implements many features that are popular in text based games but it has a GUI instead. In today's industry of flash games, I can understand your need to keep them trimmed out at the rate they are produced. However, I believe that the scope of this one warrants an article. This has been in production for several years now.

Looking at the rules that were cited in this deletion, I'm not sure that they apply. "Blatant advertising" states that being a company or product is not the criteria for being deleted. It just says that it would need to be re-written, presumably in an informational way, which this article already was. A7 clearly states that it's a criteria for web content about persons or organizations themselves, not content produced by such entities. BattleGlobe is neither a person or an organization. It is a product, similar but distinct from a variety of other products that have articles on Wikipedia.

In any event, if you still feel that it should not have an article, can you please explain what it is about the other flash game articles that qualifies them? If it still exists, I would like to get the copy back as a sandbox page so I can improve the article in the event that you guys will some day want to add it back.

Thank you for your time.

I've had a look at the article. You need have no worries with respect to notability -- geographic divisions such as cities and towns are automatically notable, and it would only be an extraordinary reason for such an article to be deleted. Yours will be fine. I would recommend that you follow a style by selecting a town/city that's about the same size as yours and copying its format -- perhaps selecting a model article that's for a place that's slightly larger than yours, which will give a model of what you might add to the article to make it useful. (For instance, what industries are in the place? What are its main tourist attractions? What are its problems?) Of course, the things you add to the article should be backed up with references, just like the statues above. If you have any further questions, feel free to leave me a note. Accounting4Taste:talk 14:54, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

I may have inadvertently contributed to the issuance of two uw-create notices with respect to the same deleted page. Would you object if I removed your create3 warning? I don't think it's going to make much difference in the long run, but I feel a little guilty about having "over-warned" this new user. Accounting4Taste:talk 20:07, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

  • Go right ahead. Most times i don't issue an uw-create warning until the second on third creation (Depends on the article) anyway. In this case i issued one because there was already a recent warning, in which case i just warn no matter what. So if you feel it has to be removed, i have no objections to that :) Excirial (Talk,Contribs) 20:10, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for your courtesy. I checked into it and found three levels of "create" warning for two deletions, and it's my fault for issuing one too many too quickly. I'll remove the create3. My apologies for your extra trouble and let's hope the editor doesn't require the third. Accounting4Taste:talk 20:12, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

Can I ask you if you are willing to support a BOT that renames images? It has become a problem recently where images are being given excessively long. Betacommand has one running at Commons and wishes to port it over here. I trust Betacommand with his BOTs and I see that the BOT on Commons has little to no complaints against it. The discussion came up at AN\I and I supported the idea. Problem..so far only two other people like the idea and I think I am the only one who whole heartedly supports the idea. I think it would be a wonderful idea given that images are becoming harder and harder every day to manage. Basically as it has been said. The BOT's only goal is to rename images that are too long to something shorter. Please tell me you support the idea of an image renaming BOT. Rgoodermote  22:26, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

P.S. If you do support can you get a few more to do so? I personally like the idea and feel it a necessity at this point. I am hoping for a cascading effect. Rgoodermote  22:30, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
Actually I am not running it Betacommand is. I am only going around finding people who will support. I think it will go by easier with an admin behind it. Let me go tell Betacommand. Rgoodermote  00:44, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
O and...the Bathrobe Cabal has got to be one of the most interesting things I have ever seen on Wikipedia to date. Rgoodermote  00:48, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
LOL well, it may well be one of the silliest. I think everyone involved is contributing a lot to the 'pedia, just a little steam being blown off. I'd feel differently if that was all that anyone was concerned with, but it's a bunch of good-humoured hard-working editors. Go ahead, take a picture of yourself in a bathrobe and join up! <grin> Accounting4Taste:talk 00:52, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
I thought about it the few times I stumbled upon it..but each time I remember I do not currently posses a bathrobe that isn't either too small or pink and too small. I'll get one one of these days. Rgoodermote  01:04, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi me again. Already this user has deleted my page. he called it Nonsense??

Harris578 (talk) 11:07, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

I see that the article is now in the middle of an Articles for Deletion {AfD} process, which I judge it is likely to pass. I can't do anything to affect an AfD, it has to run its course. Once it does so, and if the article passes, it will be very difficult to delete the article == because the editing community has judged that the references are sufficient. I hope you find this acceptable. Let me know if there's any further explanation you require. Accounting4Taste:talk 14:40, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

Hiya, sorry - this is a bit spammy. You recently commented at my talk page regarding my proposal for a mentoring process that takes us away from "admin coaching" and moves towards a process to provide a support system to help editors who wish it become effective, high quality administrators, and not an administrator for the sake of it. I've created a header at User:Pedro/Mentoring and if you have any time to provide some feedback, or just tinker with it, I'd be grateful. Pedro :  Chat  08:37, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

Speedily Deleted Page: DD/MM/YYYY

Hi there - my page was deleted and you said to leave you a note with any questions. It says in the music notability page:

Failing to satisfy the notability guidelines is not a criterion for speedy deletion. However, an article that fails to assert that the subject of the article is important or significant can be speedily deleted under criterion A7. A mere claim of significance, even if contested, may avoid speedy deletion under A7, requiring a full proposed deletion or Article for Deletion process to determine if the article should be included in Wikipedia.

Which, unless I'm misunderstanding, should have been cause enough to disqualify my article. The questions you had about the band's notability - You asked if they had done a cross-country tour? Not only have they done one, but it specified in my article that they had toured across canada and the states, and had performed at the Virgin Music Festival (big deal). Although myspace may not be considered a source, I wasn't using it as a source - I was asserting that they had been the myspace music featured band for a number of days (also a big deal for any musician). I can also provide the citations for the major Canadian publications. I didn't provide them because this was only mentioned in the talk page, not the article itself, in which case the would have been referenced. These are the reasons I think that the speedy deletion was unjustified. Is there any way to retrieve the article to bring it up to code or do I have to start from scratch? PaulAitken (talk) 14:14, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

A4T: Thanks very much for your help - It is obvious that I'm new to editing and it's nice that people are supportive of helping us develop our skills. I just have two questions: 1.Can you clarify what you mean by "it's the non-trivial coverage of that tour that is important" in reference to the cross-country tour issue. 2. Thank you or setting up the Sandbox for me, but the material contained in it isn't what I wrote yesterday. It looks like similar article written about the same band, composed by a different author, and I can certainly see why this one would have failed to meet the criteria.

Thanks again for your help. PaulAitken (talk) 15:40, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

My pleasure to be of assistance. You're quite right about the sandbox material (I rather thought that the two of you might have been working together, but that was apparently a hasty assumption) so I've replaced it with what you wrote. My apologies for my misunderstanding, and I see you can safely ignore most of what I said. With respect to "non-trivial coverage" -- Here in Vancouver, there's a weekly free newspaper called the Georgia Straight that covers the local music scene. A 300-word review of the band's work in that publication would be considered non-trivial coverage. However, a three-line mention in our local daily newspaper, the Vancouver Sun, saying "This band will be appearing at such-and-such venue at this time on this date" would be trivial coverage, even though the source is more authoritative. The Straight is considered to have considerable expertise in music, probably more so than the Sun (although a review in the Sun would definitely be non-trivial). However, a review of the band's appearance in Vancouver by a local attendee, posting on her MySpace page, would be considered trivial -- because she's not a recognized expert in the field. "Non-triviality" could thus be considered to be composed of equal parts of "recognized expertise" and "authoritativeness of the medium". A paragraph in the Globe and Mail might well be the equivalent of a full page in the Georgia Straight. Some media, like blogs and forums, are not considered to be anything except trivial except in the most extraordinary circumstances -- and a band's own press releases are automatically not considered. I hope this is the information you're looking for. I'm happy that you're sufficiently interested to develop your skills and that we're getting a useful article; if there's anything further I can do to be of assistance, let me know. Accounting4Taste:talk 16:56, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

On the speedy deletion template removal - no problems!

I understand where your decision came from. I've had other "grey area" pages like that end up deleted, usually under "containing no substantive/meaningful content" (I forget the exact source of that clause - A3, I think?). However, to my knowledge that's not an explicit speedy deletion reason, so I get how that's a problem. Letter of the law and all that. It's ultimately no big deal anyway. - Vianello (talk) 00:49, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi I recently drafted a page for AmeriCare Alliance. They have been written about in legitimate press (Atlanta Journal Constitution, Atlanta Business Journal, Gwinnett Daily Post) and I'd like to add their company info here. Is this not possible? Or do I just need to work on the 'style.' I'm new to editing, and yes, I read the advice, but I did get a bit lost with so much to learn. Can you advise when you have time?

Thank you, Jenny

My 'Poor Inc' Page

Please can you restore my article? I didn't use copyrighted text whatsoever, although admitedly i did in the first tries. I listed all my references, and i copy and pasted nothing at all.

I would appreciate it if it was restored. Also the comment of it bieng silly and spam or something is nonsense. The website is real and i was merely writing about it.

Thanks in advance. Joe —Preceding unsigned comment added by Necromantica (talkcontribs) 20:12, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

Tell you what. I think my decision to delete the article for the given reason was correct, but if you bring me three references from reliable sources -- arm's-length third-party experts writing in reputable publications who say that your topic is notable -- I'll not only restore your article, I'll help you add the references. In the meantime, I'd recommend looking at Wikipedia:Why was my article deleted? and Wikipedia:Your first article for some worthwhile information. Accounting4Taste:talk 20:17, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

Accounting, this would be a difficult task, considering that Poor Inc doesn't have a lot of coverage and not a lot of people know about it. The Wikipedia page in a sense is just giving people more information about it since no one really knows about it. People i know what to know more about it, and from a reliable source, so i used Wikipedia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Necromantica (talkcontribs) 22:16, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for clearing that up. So essentially what you're saying is that the topic is NOT notable -- which means that an article about it would not meet our notability policies -- and you'd like to use our reputation for reliability to act as a basis for your advertising so that more people will learn about your topic -- which violates both our conflict of interest and our advertising policies. I think I can now say that there's no point in you continuing to try to post this article, because I can't imagine any circumstances under which it would be allowed to remain. I recommend placing your information in a location that has fewer policies about what it accepts, such as MySpace or Facebook. I do appreciate your being clear about your intentions. If there's anything further I can do to be of assistance, feel free to leave me a note. Accounting4Taste:talk 22:41, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

R4Rb

Hi A4T, per your comments last Monday, I've decided to temporarily abandon my principles and ask that you grant me rollback rights. I'm still determined to spend the time examining each and every edit, but there are some situations where it would be useful, for instance swear words are pretty clear vandalism, and recently I was trying to correct vandalism to a page large enough that my browser almost fell apart in the rendering, it took 20 minutes and I still did it wrong! I believe I can customize the edit summary to make clear I am using rollback; I would like to have it available for clear-cut situations; and what-the-hey, you're a nice guy, you should get the chance to grant it to at least one editor! I reserve my right to also ask you to revoke my rollback right, should I decide I'm not interested in having the ability. Thanks and cheers! Franamax (talk) 21:44, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the note (nice to hear from you!). It was relatively easy to work out how to grant it -- please give it a shot and let me know if for some reason it does NOT work for you. And, yes, if you request, I'll remove it -- although I think you could just use it when it seemed to be indicated, like your 20-minute session above. I'm at your service. Accounting4Taste:talk 21:49, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
Whee! I logged out, purged cache, logged in and looked 'cause it sounded like a big deal, where's the buttons? Then I had cause to rv a, umm, foolish edit, and there it was in all its tempting glory! Didn't bother, n/a, but I promise I'll nuke something with it :) I have to figure out where I stored my wiki-revenge list, 'tho maybe I should save that for my ArbCom membership :) Anyway, thanx, I'll use it carefully. Franamax (talk) 01:19, 10 May 2008 (UTC)
Followup note - this rollback thing is actually working out OK. For instance when I see someone has replaced a chunk of text with "pooped my pants" - you use it then, right? Now I have to check their further contribs for "cleaned myself up" and "did the laundry" just to get the rest of the story. Still laughing about it, but yeah, I'm glad after all I asked for rollback. Cheers! Franamax (talk) 01:06, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

I was contributing an article about a band that is part of the Beau Hill stable of artists that includes many multi-platinum acts. We have pages for all of Beau's other work - I was curious as to why this new one was deleted.

Thank You —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mistermulder (talkcontribs) 04:25, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your note. Beau Hill may be sufficiently notable to be the subject of a Wikipedia article, but that notability is not inherited by bands with which he works. You can read the criteria for the notability of a musical group at WP:MUSIC; unless they have a "multi-platinum" recording about which you neglected to include information in the article, or some other source of notability, I agree with the editor who tagged the article for deletion that the group is not notable. If you have any further questions about Wikipedia policy, feel free to leave me a further question. Accounting4Taste:talk 04:29, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
And if you're expecting the Beau Hill article to remain, I suggest adding some references and sources to back up its claims. Accounting4Taste:talk 04:32, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

Rfb participation thanks

Hello, TasteAccountant.

I wanted to personally thank you for taking part in the project-wide discussions regarding my candidacy for bureaucratship. After bureaucratic discussion, the bureaucrats decided that there was sufficient significant and varied opposition to my candidacy, and thus no consensus to promote, so, notwithstanding your username, when it comes to wikipedians opinion of my suitability as a 'crat at this time, de gustibus non est disputandum. :-) Although personally disappointed, I both understand and respect their decision, especially in light of historical conservatism the project has had when selecting its bureaucrats. If you have any further suggestions or comments as to how you think I could help the project, please let me know. Once again, thank you for your support. -- Avi (talk) 18:02, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

SmartDitch

Hello, I am trying to add a page. It's my first time trying to do this. I use Wikipedia all the time and I’m glad to see how well it is being monitored. If you have some suggestions on adding this page without coming off as advertising that would be great. The first time it was posted it did sound like a sales pitch and it was the right thing to delete it, so I tried to just stat the facts about the product. What specifically could I delete to make this work? I don’t mean to preach about the product I just want to write that it is indeed something. Some of my fellow employees here are very educated in things like erosion and drainage and we were hoping to add to those pages here on Wikipedia because they lack some of the information that we are very familiar with.Budnewman (talk) 14:37, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

Everybody else is doing it...

Hello - You recently deleted a manufacturers link on the XRF page:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XRF#Manufacturers_of_x-ray_Fluorescence_Equipment

The page linked ot teh wiki-page of Skyray Instrument. I do not understand the deletion because everybody listed there is linking for the same reasons.

Also, the Skyray Instrument page was deleted (obviously no link is available). The information included on that page was based on the information that other XRF manufacturers had on their pages - why was the Skyray Instrument page deleted but not theres?

I am here for the same reason as the other manufacturers; we develop a technology relating to an article (or articles) on Wikipedia and would like interested parties to see our technologies.

Please contact me with thoughts on how we can be included or consider deleting the other manufacturers link on XRF and company pages.

You recently reverted my edits to the Oracle Corporation article where I had made two sets of changes:

  • On May 9th 2008, I fixed some of the dates in the acquisitions list where they were either incomplete (just month mentioned without date) or wrong. As a result of the fixes, I also had to reorder some of the items to maintain chronological sequencing.
  • On May 13th 2008, I added the latest acquisition to the list.

my article on consciousness technology was just tagged for speedy deletion, because it seemed to be an example of blatant advertising. It may go some distance to removing bias. It does not go any distance at all towards addressing the most serious problem and the reason that this article will soon be deleted, which is that it has NO REFERENCES. Please read the page found via the link in the last sentence in order to understand what that means. Mr Baker page - deleted

I would like to ask you to restore my page on Mr Brian Baker, who I believe is a man who deserves a Wikipedia page. He has contributed greatly to the work on Nuclear Fusion, often behind the scenes, helping to close the gap between us and successful Nuclear Fusion, removing the dependence on fossil fuels. If successful, he could revolutionise the planet. I believe a Wikipedia page in his honour could give him the necessary funding to continue with his experiments.

Also, i ahd not actually finsihed editing the page. I still have to add numerous references, and also update the information a little. I also believe there are many spelling and grammatical errors, including his birth date and some of the finer details of his life history. I also had to add many aspects of his life into the biography.

I would be grateful if you could review this deletion, to give thanks to a great scientist

Thank you

MrBrianBaker (talk) 19:07, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your note. I'm afraid that, no matter how fond you are of your science teacher, it's not appropriate for him to be the subject of an article in Wikipedia unless you can prove that he has considerably more notability than was demonstrated in the article; and, frankly, I doubt that he has been the subject of many magazine articles or chapters in books. Making up grandiose stories about his scientific achievements won't get you anywhere unless you can prove them beyond a doubt; not only do we recommend you stick to the provable truth but, frankly, we've all seen this sort of thing before. Perhaps you could find a more appropriate venue for your material where they don't have standards for inclusion; Facebook and MySpace come to mind. Good luck with your project, as long as it's not here you're trying to mount it. Accounting4Taste:talk 19:48, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

Thomas Knobel

Hello there. I disagree with your estimation of the notability of Thomas Knobel. I read through your guideline for why an article might be speedily deleted, and I have comments:

  • Non-encyclopedic? I managed to squeeze eight independent, linked sources into nine sentences. That reads like an encyclopedia to me.
  • Copyright violation? I wrote each of the nine sentences myself, lifting the sentiment of each article into a topic sentence.
  • Advertisement or spam? I didn't link to any companies or anyone that I know to be making any money from my linking.
  • Attack page or other form of vandalism? As far as I could see, there were no attacks or vandalism.

In addition, speaking to the notability of the topic, the guy came to America at 16, created a startup while in college with no financing, finished his degree, and grew it into a $150 million dollar company by age 30. The company made the Inc 500 Fastest Growing Private Companies, and earned a Kiplinger's Award in their field. He's been asked to speak at Wharton on entrepreneurship, and he does charity work. This is the American dream! I find it hard to accept that this is not notable.

In conclusion, please reinstate the article. If you have suggestions on how I can continue to make it a better fit in the Wikipedia community, I would gladly incorporate your feedback. Thank you. Cberejik (talk) 16:15, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

Disambiguation pages

Thanks for the input. I ran into another one where I'm not sure what to do. Would you mind looking at John McAdam. I have another John McAdam (politician) that I added to the McAdam disambiguation page. Is this how to do it or shold there be a separate disambiguation page for "John McAdam"? You obviously cant read the hang on that was placed on the page. It was placed on the page for a reason. Please reinstate the page or shall I get Jimbo to do it? Dancerman2008 (talk) 19:56, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

Oh, yes, please, if you wouldn't mind -- I'm sure Jimbo will be delighted. I know I will be. Accounting4Taste:talk 19:59, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
No problem will do. Dancerman2008 (talk) 20:01, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME ACCOUNTING 4 TASTE WHY YOU ARE BEING SUBJECTIVE AND NOT OBJECTIVE IN YOUR ARTICLE REVIEW PROCESS, I WANT MY DONATION BACK WIKIPIDIA IS SHOULD NOT BE ABOUT SUBJECTIVENESS BUT ABOUT OBJECTIVENESS

See if you can objectively read our policy about attack pages; whatever your "donation" was, it wouldn't be enough to cover the lawsuit if we left pages like that in place. Accounting4Taste:talk 20:12, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

Hello Accounting4Taste, I was directed to your page by USER:DeadlyAssasin. My article was recently deleted (speedy) and I was asking if a copy of it could be emailed to me. DeadlyAssasin said you could do that since you're the admin. who actually deleted it.

The article is "Speak Group, Int." I did begin a talk page on this article as well, mostly to explain its creation. Having better understood the issue of notability, I do not think that the "Speak Group, Int." article makes the cut. They will need to deal with the fact that they will continue to be confused with the bigger group (SPEAK network) that did. As a last effort, given that you are a seasoned admin., is there a way to have the existing article about the larger "notable/noted" SPEAK network edited to show that they are not to be confused with the not worthy of notice "Speak Group, Int.?" Thank you. Toroloco (talk) 11:45, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

Hey,

Ive just been making a page for my band for the last 4 hours.... and then i got a message saying its being deleted.... i read the rules... and this isnt just a silly person putting their rubbish band up on here to become famous... we are quite well known around the southern region.. and have had over 23000 views on our other websites... i was simply putting this page up so that those who are our fans could read and learn more about us, and also as an information source for students etc.

I would really appreciate it if you could restore the page that i have created, and provide tips on how to stop another persons.. rapid deleteing it...

The page i created contains no copyright infringement whatsoever, there is no spamming.. just pure information that could help others.

Thank You

Thanks for your note. Apparently when you "read the rules", you missed looking at the notability guidelines for musical groups at WP:MUSIC, which neither the band in question nor its individual members comes close to meeting, in my judgment. No one is suggesting that there is any copyright infringement; whether or not it's spamming for a cover band to suggest that it and every single one of its members is worthy of an article in Wikipedia is not a judgment I shall have to make, since the band doesn't qualify under WP:MUSIC and its individual members don't qualify under WP:PERSON. I'm sorry that you feel you wasted your four hours. I suggest it would have been more profitably and usefully spent in providing this information via a website that doesn't have standards for its articles, such as MySpace or Facebook. If you have any further questions about Wikipedia policy, feel free to leave me a note. Accounting4Taste:talk 16:28, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

"SEWELL" Wikipedia Page has been deleted....

Dear Wikipedia,

The page SEWELL has been deleted, before I was finished editing it.

Below, is what I had so far...

SEWELL (pronounced "Suwul") is an all American lifestyle brand that is inspired by the rugged outdoors and the classic warmth of being at home. SEWELL appeals to students and young adults ages 22-35. The brand is exclusively sold online through www.sewellcompany.com and features high end sunglasses, colognes, perfumes, necklaces, and has an emphasis on framed art.

Consumers can browse a featured photography section titled, "SEWELL Signiture Photo Gallery" and can subscribe to future email updates and special offers. SEWELL radio, is an online music player that users can use to listen to the latest music.

I still need to inform people of

-Company History -Owners -Core principals -Pictures -Describe marketing concept -Brand Image

This is by no means an advertisement page, I just want to inform people of this new brand.

Thank you for your time,

As near as I can tell by reading your article and the note above, you've completely misunderstood the principles under which Wikipedia operates and its purpose. Please go and read WP:Your first article and WP:Why was my article deleted?, as well as the policy page at WP:SPAM and our conflict of interest policy. There is not the slightest chance that you will be allowed to do what you say you want to do, and you need to know why that is before continuing, because you are very likely to be wasting your time. If you have any questions about Wikipedia policy AFTER you have read those pages, feel free to leave me a note. Accounting4Taste:talk 22:19, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
