Bridal knight vs bridle knight

Hi, I read your article on the Staunton chess set and enjoyed it. I am currently reading “The Queen’s Gambit” which mentions the Staunton chess set, and my search landed on your article. I also enjoyed the photos of the chess sets and the knights. For the image titled “KnightBrighton.jpg” your caption reads “A ‘bridal knight’ from a Brightron chess set” and I wonder if the ‘bridal’ refers to the horse head’s wearing a bridle, rather than to its being related somehow to a bride? It is the only knight featuring a bridle, possibly a “bridle knight.” For example:

I also wonder if you have misspelled “Brighton” in the same caption, since the image file’s title contains the name “Brighton?”

@Bubba73: Hi, under Knight Variations, when I select the photo of the bridle knight, top row, third from the left, the photo opens in a slide viewer window (sorry I don’t know the correct term for it) where I see the caption, and other details about the photo, and can click through all of the photos. On the photo page for the bridle knight, I can also click a button for more information that opens a Wikimedia Commons page with a LOT of information about the photo, even metadata about the camera you used. Your knight photos also appear in the article “Knight (chess)” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knight_(chess) Indyanne (talk) 11:47, 1 December 2020 (UTC)

Chess

Hello there. I saw you have a Morphy number of 4, which is quite the achievement! I'd imagine mine is probably in double figures, if I even have one. Anyway, you'll see I edited Alessandro Salvio, but I almost immediately hit a wall with trying to expand the article as I can't find much. Would you by any chance have any information on him (in any books) or can you point me in the right direction? Also, you wouldn't by any chance have a copy of the Oxford Companion to Chess? Schofield was a frequent houseguest at Redfield's farm, upstream from New Hope, Pennsylvania, and the two would go out painting together, competing to capture the better view. Redfield served on the jury for the 1904 Annual Exhibition of the Carnegie Institute; at which, despite Redfield's opposition, Across the River was awarded the Gold Medal and $1,500 prize. It was not until a 1963 interview that the 93-year-old Redfield revealed the painting as the cause of the 40-year feud between them. Schofield may have painted it in England, but a blindsided Redfield knew that this was a view of the Delaware River, from his own front yard!

I happen to be creating articles related to architects Pringle and Smith, and there is a standardized-design Coca-Cola Bottling Plant there (at 820 Love Ave., 31.46121°N 83.50658°W / 31.46121; -83.50658 (Tifton Coca-Cola Bottling Plant), which I also added to List of Coca-Cola buildings and structures; you didn't happen to get a pic of that, did you?). The district article needs a properly formatted "gallery", then should probably include a lot of the contents of Media related to Tifton Residential Historic District at Wikimedia Commons. Good. But hmm, that is the house at 1208 Love Ave., from your 2016 visit there, which appears probably not in the district after all. There is a sketch map on page 32 of 32 in NRHP text document, which seems to show Tift Ave and Love Ave (which run to the north north east) coming up to 12th St. as the north border, but not beyond, and this house is in the next long block btwn 12th and 14th streets. Also, "1208 Love Ave" is not mentioned in the document. So I guess i will use temporary sections (or galleries) in the draft article to list out all the pics and try to determine whether they are in or out. I do understand it's hard to determine, when visiting or even after. Even though the NRHP registration document is relatively recent (2007), it does not include a comprehensive list of all the properties, unfortunately. I would welcome your help in the draft article, e.g. indicating if you agree that 1208 Love Ave. is out or not, etc. --Doncram (talk) 00:55, 20 February 2021 (UTC)

Most of the Georgia NRHP forms have been digitized, but that one hasn't, so I didn't have a map. I was going by the description "14th, Goff, & 2nd Sts.& Forrest Ave", so I went from downtown from 2nd to 14th, along Love Ave. Bubba73 ^{You talkin' to me?} 01:15, 20 February 2021 (UTC)

Actually, 1208 Love Ave. is in the district. The sketch map in the text doc is rough. The photos doc ... isn't available. But full copy of NRHP registration including all photos, at National Archives (228 pages!) has a full, proper map at the very end, showing exact outline of the district, and 1208 Love Ave. is inside, yay! I am downloading a full copy (which is slow) by hitting the down-arrow button below the document box in the National Archives view, to be able to work with this more conveniently. Exact addresses found for all 10 of your pics of houses, all confirmed to be in the district, and of course they are all contributing buildings (you wouldn't have taken pics of any of the few non-contributing ones scattered about). One time in Jacksonville a few years ago I had the coordinates of several places and I decided to do them north to south. At one point I did one and the next one was quite a bit to the west. Draw with 2 Knights

Checkmate with 2 knights cannot be forced.

Thus in a real chess game, if it becomes a king versus a king and 2 knights, the arbiter will declare a draw by insufficient material.

It cannot be forced from a general position, but it is not impossible! According to FIDE rules, two knights and a king vs. a king is not a draw. @Seasider53: That was one article of several about Historic Hotels of America. It got moved to draft because there were a large number of them that got moved to draft space (1) because they were short, and (2) the Historic Hotels of America website, used as a source, seemed to be for advertising. I think https://mathworld.wolfram.com/DivisorFunction.html is a good reference? It does state that, not only for $\sigma _{1}$ but for all $\sigma _{k}:k\geq 1$. I'll incorporate that.

Here's something I'd like to run by you, if you don't mind. The property obviously extends to all arguments of of the form $n=2^{k}m^{2}$ (if k is even, then n is a full square; if odd, twice-square). Does it make sense to mention this property? Kind of OR and at the same time very transparent and obvious if you have to play with it in Mathematica because your edit was reverted, but likely far less obvious obvious otherwise :-). What's you take on this?

Rejuvenate WikiProject Skepticism

Hello - my name is Susan Gerbic (Sgerbic) and I'm writing to you because at some point you joined Wikipedia:WikiProject Skepticism. This might have been months ago - or even years ago. With the best of intentions the project was created years ago, and sadly like many WikiProjects has started to go dormant. A group of us are attempting to revitalize the Skepticism project, already we have begun to clean up the main page and I've just redone the participant page. No one is in charge of this project, it is member directed, which might have been the reason it almost went dormant. We are attempting to bring back conversations on the talk page and have two subprojects as well, in the hopes that it might spark involvement and a way of getting to know each other better. One was created several years ago but is very well organized and a lot of progress was made, Wikipedia:WikiProject Skepticism/Skeptical organisations in Europe. The other I created a couple weeks ago, it is very simple and has a silly name Wikipedia:WikiProject Skepticism/Skepticism Stub Sub-Project Project (SSSPP). This sub-project runs from March 1 to June 1, 2022. We are attempting to rewrite skepticism stubs and add them to this list. As you can see we have already made progress.

The reason I'm writing to you now is because we would love to have you come back to the project and become involved, either by working on one of the sub-projects, proposing your own (and managing it), or just hanging out on the talk page getting to know the other editors and maybe donate some of your wisdom to some of the conversations. As I said, no one is in charge, so if you have something in mind you would like to see done, please suggest it on the talk page and hopefully others will agree. Please add the project to your watchlist, update your personal user page showing you are a proud member of WikiProject Skepticism. And DIVE in, this is what the work list looks like [1] frightening at first glance, but we have already started chipping away at it.

The Wikipedia:WikiProject Skepticism/Participants page has gone though a giant change - you may want to update your information. And of course if this project no longer interests you, please remove your name from the participant list, we would hate to see you go, but completely understand.

You're my go-to guy on the subject of chess. I'm just curious whether you've ever seen a chess set like File:Wooden chess set 2021 03 20.jpg. It's a screen grab from a BBC series called "Escape to the Country", in Northumberland, in which this set briefly appeared in the foreground of a shot. Data for exponents of primes in multiply perfect numbers

Hi, right now I am at a strong interest with prime factorizations of multiperfect numbers. Last time I used a different account for Wikipedia but I forgot my password to log in. So I created a new one that I can remember my password for.

What I am wanting you to do is interpret the data with the exponents of the first 4 primes in the known multiperfect numbers. Below is the place for you to do it:

On the page with the link above, I want you to fill in the rest of the cells of all 4 tables that are empty. I already filled in the data for abundancies 2, 3, and 4 in all 4 tables. The rest of the tables is unfilled and I am currently waiting for you to fill all the empty cells. Below are the calculators to do it:

And the place to look at the numbers is here. It shows the prime factorization of every single known multiperfect number. Note that the leftmost character of each line is a letter that shows the abundancy of the number, so b means a number with abundancy 2, c means a number with abundancy 3, and so on. I just want to know the median, mean, mode, and standard deviation for the first 4 primes in the known multiperfect numbers for each separate abundancy. For example, if you are collecting data with 6-perfect numbers, you look only at those with f at the left of each line and interpret the data with the two calculators given.

Hey Bubba73, as a resident of south Georgia like myself, I was wondering if you'd heard of Sunbury, Georgia, a colonial ghost town in Liberty County. I did some work on expanding the article a while back and would love to see the article reach GA status at some point, and in that vein was wondering if it was something you'd want to look over. I left a pretty sizable further reading section that I intend to go through in-depth soon and possibly incorporate some information into the article, and I know a second set of eyes is always helpful in article editing. I took photos at Fort Morris a few years ago and it seems like I took a photo of a historical marker for Sunbury. I'll see if I can find it and I will look over the article. • @E3C4B1: The turpentine in that bottle was made the way they made it in the early 1900s, but that bottle was made at a demonstration at the Georgia Agrirama in the 1980s (by my father) - where they were demonstrating the old way of making it. • @E3C4B1: My father and his brothers made McCranie's Turpentine Still in the late 1930s. They had little money so they made it in the old style used in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The Georgia Agrirama opened in 1976 and they got one of these old-style stills. They started a yearly demonstration of it (I think they still do). My father was one of the few people who knew how to run the still. He did the demos until the late 1980s, when he taught someone else how to do it. The reason why I asked you this is because I was wanting you to tell Achim Flammenkamp on the OEIS wiki for more multiply perfect numbers. George Woltman started discovering them in 1997 and then restarted discovering them in 2021. He is probably still working on discovering new multiply perfect numbers today. On the empty page with this link, please tell Achim Flammenkamp to update the database of multiply perfect numbers that he has stored on the page of multiply perfect numbers (this will happen on June 30, 2022). If Woltman has discovered multiperfect numbers this year, the multiperfect numbers that he has discovered this year in 2022 include many 10-perfect numbers, a few 9-perfect numbers, or possibly even an 11-perfect number. I really want Flammenkamp to update the database that currently shows 5772 multiply perfect numbers in June 30, 2022 to display all of the multiply perfect numbers that were discovered in the first half of 2022. Anyway, I really really want to see the new multiply perfect numbers that Woltman has discovered this year, so please do so by creating the talk page on the OEIS wiki for Flammenkamp. Hello, I'm back on this discussion on multiperfect numbers here. Earlier this month, I was looking again at the multiply perfect numbers website At that time I found out that more 9- and 10-perfect numbers have been discovered in the past year. I searched through the list of known multiperfect numbers and found some numbers discovered in 2021. Here is the link: the prime factorizations of the known multiply perfect numbers. I looked through the prime factorizations of the newly discovered multiperfect numbers and most of them were interesting. It always starts with an power of 2, then a power of 3, a power of 5, and so on. I was looking at their prime factorizations to give me a general idea of how I can find an 11-multiperfect number. I would have to give more effort on the prime exponents of an 11-perfect number in order to discover a new one than other people had to on a 10-perfect number to discover more. I think that for the first few prime factors generally have decreasing exponents but then a few other prime factors pop up. I don't know the actual process they use for those large ones, but I'm sure it takes a lot of work. Bubba73 ^{You talkin' to me?} 00:50, 15 February 2022 (UTC)

It is that you take the largest prime factor of 2ⁿ-1 and add 1 to the largest prime factor. Then you take the prime factorization of that number which is 1 more than the largest prime factor. Then for each of the prime factors in that factorization, take 1 more than each of the primes and do the prime factorizations of those numbers. Then keep doing the process until you have no more primes to fill in. That is how the large prime numbers appear in a multiperfect number. Fomfeider (talk) 14:08, 15 February 2022 (UTC)

On Tuesday I saw the list of newly discovered multiperfect numbers in 2022 on the mentioned website. It included an 8-perfect number, 34 9-perfect numbers, 124 10-perfect numbers, and even an 11-perfect number. I am so happy that another 11-perfect number has been discovered! I've been wishing for more numbers like that since the beginning of last year.

I printed a list of 8-perfect numbers online in the previous days and started to realize how difficult it is to discover even an 8-perfect number. So that's definitely not worthy of trying to discover an 11-perfect number if I can't even manage to discover a single 8-perfect number. This task would be wayyy too difficult for me. It may be more important, but as per WP:NFCC, when we have a free alternative that serves the same purpose (in this case, providing an image of the event), then we need to use it. Non-free book covers are generally allowed to be used for primary identification purposes in stand-alone articles about the books they represent, but their uses in other articles or in other ways is generally only allowed when the cover itself is the subject of sourced critical commentary as explained in WP:NFC#cite_note-3 and the context for non-free use. There is no such commentary for this particular book cover anywhere in the Bay article, thus there's really no jiustification for it's non-free use.

Non-free image being used in a WP:DECORATIVE manner in T.A.M.I. Show#List of performers. Non-free images like this aren't generally allowed to illustrate list-like sections of articles unless the image itself is the subject of sourced critical commentary as explained WP:NFC#CS or seeing the image signifcantly improves the reader's understanding of subject matter to the degree that non seeing it would be detrimental to that understanding. This image shows Brown as he appeared on the show, but he was just one of many perfomrers who appeared on the show and a non-free image of him doesn't need to be seen for the reader to understand he appeared on the show. The reader doesn't need to see how Brown goes down on his knee, especially since there's no sourced critical commentary of Brown's appearance and him going down on his knee.

Examples of such images would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a screenshot of a computer game or movie. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original image must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.

While the image description page states the source and copyright status of the derivative work, it only names the creator of the original work without specifying the status of their copyright over the work.

Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the original image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.
