NRHP document referencing[edit]

Hi, i just noticed your new article Little Falls Commercial Historic District. Great that you're developing, and that looks good! It looks to me like you manually created the reference to the NRHP document, and that way it is inferior (lacks fields of title, author, etc., and more importantly lacks link to photographs accompanying the application) to what is supported by an available tool. Are you aware of it, the "Elkman NRHP infobox generator". It's covered at wp:NRHPHELP.

Running it for Little Falls Commercial yields this output. You can copy/paste in as much as you want, but you should get the suggested reference, which is: <ref name="nrhpdoc">{{cite web|url={{NRHP url|id=94000740}}|title=National Register of Historic Places Inventory/Nomination: Little Falls Commercial Historic District |publisher=[[National Park Service]]|author= |date= |accessdate=April 13, 2020}} With {{NRHP url|id=94000740|photos=y|title=accompanying pictures}}</ref>

Which yields this reference:[1]

References

  1. ^ "National Register of Historic Places Inventory/Nomination: Little Falls Commercial Historic District". National Park Service. Retrieved April 13, 2020. With accompanying pictures

Which can/should be further customized, say to change "accompanying pictures" to "accompanying 40 photos from 1993".

Does this possibly help? Anyhow, keep up your good work! cheers--Doncram (talk) 20:24, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Thanks for bringing this resource to my attention. I will continue to use it in the future. The reference in question has been updated. --Jordano53 (talk) 20:32, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again, and I'm glad to see you continuing with Charles A. Weyerhaeuser and Musser Houses. I butted in there, probably before you are done, with an edit making minor changes i make in the NRHP infobox. But another thing: i noticed the big description section in the current version was indented, as if a long quote (though not yet footnoted). And I confirm that from the NRHP doc. Maybe/probably you are going to edit that away, converting into your own wording. But I wonder if you are aware of copyright status of NRHP nomination documents. Sort of surprisingly, the copyright is technically owned by the author, often a consultant (or perhaps the property owner who paid for the consulting). It is not in the public domain, except in relatively rare cases of author being a Federal employee. So, besides for Wikipedia to avoid any appearance of plagiarism (failure to give appropriate credit for content or wording, which can be addressed by giving credit explicitly like with quote marks or indentation and inline citation) there is technically a copyright issue, at least if it is not reworded. It is okay by copyright law and practice to quote passages, and these NRHP documents are pretty much thought (incorrectly) to be in the public domain and no obscure author from 1972 or whenever wants to protect their copyright or demand payment, and quoting is often the best way to convey what the NRHP says, e.g. to explain what it asserted is reason for NRHP listing. I happen to like to explicitly quote longish passages sometimes, especially if it is written really well or is technical-like, while some others have disagreed. Paraphrasing can introduce errors of interpretation and can be difficult, where a quote works really well. Is this too much, or not of interest? --Doncram (talk) 22:23, 15 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again! For the article in question, it appears I forgot to source the quoted material- an issue that has been fixed. As for paraphrasing, it might be beneficial for the article, especially considering the houses are not notable for their architectural significance, but for its historical significance. --Jordano53 (talk) 23:31, 15 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, yes. There was a very productive NRHP editor who created very many articles, and he happened to be interested in the description stuff in Section 8 in NRHP documents, rather than in the significance stuff in Section 11. He got much better than me at describing places. I focus relatively more on writing up significance stuff. Some, if they were king, would require both to be written up well, with no "cheating" by using quotes, before they would allow an article draft to be in mainspace. Your articles are obviously making a substantial contribution, whichever you choose to focus upon. Thanks! --Doncram (talk) 01:58, 16 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I have sent you a note about a page you started[edit]

Hello, Jordano53

Thank you for creating William Warren Two Rivers House Site and Peter McDougall Farmstead.

User:North8000, while examining this page as a part of our page curation process, had the following comments:

Good start. Good next step would be to write a couple paragraphs from what's in that sources instead of the giant direct quote.

To reply, leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|North8000}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ .

Thank you for reviewing GANs![edit]

Hi @Jordano53:! First, thank you for starting to review good article nominations: there's a bit of a backlog and it's great to get more editors involved. If you have any questions, we have a great active talk page (WT:GAN). I had a look at your first review - it looks like you've checked off all the criteria, which is great, but in future reviews, it would be better if you could provide some comments about what you've checked - and maybe how each bit does/does not meet the criteria. Happy editing, Kingsif (talk) 19:20, 18 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Your GA nomination of Flag of Columbus, Ohio[edit]

The article Flag of Columbus, Ohio you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Flag of Columbus, Ohio for comments about the article. Well done! If the article has not already appeared on the main page as a "Did you know" item, or as a bold link under "In the News" or in the "On This Day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear in DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On This Day" column do not affect DYK eligibility. Flag of Columbus, Ohio[edit]

Hi Jordano53, I marked your DYK as good, and then it got approved and moved to the other page. In my notes, though, I requested you add the text from ALT 1 into the lead of the article so that it is explicitly stated there and cited. I am new to DYK and not exactly sure what I was supposed to do, but I think you should add it in before it gets promoted to DYK on the main page. Thanks! Footlessmouse (talk) 21:12, 17 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Footlessmouse: I have added the suggested content into the article's lead. Jordano53 (talk) 22:54, 17 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, thanks for responding so quick! Can you also place the reference there as well? It is required to have it cited inline when it appears in the article. Thanks again! Also, great job on another DYK! Footlessmouse (talk) 22:57, 17 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Footlessmouse: For the lead, it is not necessary for it to be cited when it appears later in the body- this is to prevent redundant citations. In this case, I believe cited passages related to this appear in the "Design and symbolism" section and the "proposed redesigns" section of the History section. See MOS:LEADCITE. Jordano53 (talk) 23:01, 17 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I knew that was the general case, I just wasn't sure for the DYK. I think everything will be fine. Like I said, great job! Footlessmouse (talk) 23:03, 17 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Flag of Columbus, Ohio[edit]

On 12 November 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Flag of Columbus, Ohio, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Flag of Columbus, Ohio. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Flag of Columbus, Ohio), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Flag of Raleigh, North Carolina you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of No Great Shaker -- No Great Shaker (talk) 15:21, 9 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The article Flag of Raleigh, North Carolina you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Flag of Raleigh, North Carolina for comments about the article. Assessment categories[edit]

It's not clear what your intention is with categories such as Category:A-class Minnesota Legislature articles, but you should never simply blank a category. If your intention was that they should be deleted then you should tag them with {{db-self}} (if you are the only editor) and an admin will come along and delete them. DYK for Gordon Rosenmeier[edit]

On 3 March 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Gordon Rosenmeier, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that former Minnesota governor Harold LeVander jokingly said that he served under state senator Gordon Rosenmeier? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Gordon Rosenmeier. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Gordon Rosenmeier), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (ie, 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

WiTricity[edit]

Hello, Jordano53! Hope you're doing well. Back in 2019, you reviewed a couple draft articles for which I had a conflict of interest. If you're willing to assist again, I've drafted a replacement WiTricity entry here. As I've noted, the current article is in terrible shape, so I've drafted an accurate, neutral, and up to date replacement. I reached out to one editor who has worked to improve the article in the past but they are not active or interested enough to implement the proposed draft.

I'd like to think the proposed draft is a significant improvement over the existing entry, which has five warning banners. Might you have a moment to take a look at the draft and copy over appropriately? I'm happy to address any questions or concerns. Thanks for your consideration, Inkian Jason (talk) 15:07, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Inkian Jason: Hello! Apologies for the delayed response. I've reviewed your draft article and implemented it, sans a few details. I removed the information about the CEO in the lead, as it seemed rather out of place and not a necessary inclusion without context on its importance. I also removed the sentence referring to it as a "global leader". The source itself seems to be somewhat promotional in its tone, though it is provided by a reputable source so I do not distrust the other uses of it within the article. The phrase "global leader" seems to be borderline blatant advertising as well- I just figure it best to remove it. Other than those two things, its a nicely written article and is a substantial improvement from the original. Let me know if you need any additional help with this or any additional articles down the line. Jordano53 02:35, 10 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
No need to apologize. Thank you for reviewing the draft and updating the Wikipedia entry on my behalf. I very much appreciate your assistance. Inkian Jason (talk) 14:41, 10 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
On the off chance you're interested, I'm currently seeking help to slightly expand and correct the Citrix Workspace entry here. I've sought help at WikiProject Software and a couple individual editors, but haven't received any feedback yet. I've also published Draft:Tekedra Mawakana and Draft:Dmitri Dolgov (co-CEOs of Waymo) for review and move into main space. I've posted requests for review at WikiProject Women and WikiProject Women in Red, but I haven't seen any movement if either pique your curiosity. Thanks either way! Inkian Jason (talk) 13:41, 23 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I've crossed out text about the Waymo biographies, since these have been reviewed and taken live, but the Citrix Workspace request remains. Thanks! Inkian Jason (talk) 16:27, 6 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Jordano53, could it be there is a typ in the date of birth? J. R. Aspelin (Q2349252) and sources state 1842. Thank you so much for your time. Lotje (talk) 09:53, 13 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, that was a typo- every other date in the article says 1842. My apologies, it is now fixed. Thank you! Jordano53 17:28, 13 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
