I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. John Jenkins No Huddle

Hey I appreciate how you have fixed up the information. The one thing you took out that needs to be take back in is Jenkins innovation for the no huddle offense. The wiki page for hurry up credits the bengals and bills in 88 which is true for nfl but wrong for professional football. Jenkins installed the no huddle in 1985 and in week 1 they no huddled the entire 4th qtr. it was all over the papers after that. Jim Kelly loved it so much he made it the base with the bills. Jenkins would make no huddling his base offense in 1987 with Houston. Is there any kind of inherit Wikipedia class so for Paul Robeson I can use infoboxes for college football player, nfl player, college coach, and singer all in 1 like I do for Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture with the NRHP and library infoboxes? I see you have edited Darryl Stonum. This was one of the hardest articles that I have ever had to edit and I was not sure if I was being objective and within the WP:BLP and WP:UNDUE policies. I assume that since you stopped by to edit without making substantive edits, the article is fairly representative of what would be considered a good summary of media accounts. Hey there! I noticed on Emmett Etzold back in June you made some edits that took out a section on the coach's history and performance. I don't necessarily mind that you did (sometimes less is more), I'm more curious why you thought it was a better move and more importantly why the references from the article were removed. Jpgordon, you are simply incorrect here. The page in question is flying a BLP notice. This is not simply a categorization I disagree with. It is a calculated smear campaign by Wikipedia editors biased toward the religious right to drag people like Richard Dawkins down in the mud with Stalinist murderers, and undermine the secular, humanist values that are at the very core of Wikipedia. I am still rather dismayed at the terrible policy interpretation and lack of appreciation by multiple admins here for the BLP smear job that I worked to counter. And after looking closer at the edit warring report made against me, it seems that only two for the six edits claimed to be reverts by Lionelt actually were such. The first edit (476061260) was simply an edit on a page that had not been edited by anyone in six weeks. Edits #2 (476061260) and #3 (476081147) can legitimately be considered reverts. But edits #4 (476217277), #5 (476240891), and #6 (476243996) were attempts to mitigate differences been the stark inclusion/exclusion of the verbiage in dispute. Furthermore, it's come to light that Anupam has been copying information back and forth between analogous articles on Wikipedia and Conservapedia. That is a terribly damaging intrusion on the integrity of Wikipedia and should be investigated. Furthermore, we should investigate the usefulness and motivation behind WikiProject Conservatism, founded by none other than my accuser, Lionelt. I think it's fair to say that these two editors, with whom I've butted heads, are extremely damaging and dangerous "members" of the Wikipedia community who aim to subvert our project with their Christian-conservative political agenda. Dougweller, I appreciate your support and words of encouragement. Some pretty bad stuff has been uncovered by this incident. It's clear that we have two editors that are driven by a biased, political agenda backed up by a WikiProject that is a POV/bias haven. They are willing to write and defend libelous content about living people to advance that agenda, and are at least somewhat adept in gaming some of the conduct rules of Wikipedia to protect their malicious aims. It's also clear that we have a failure of administrative leadership in that a number of admins were not competent enough or were not willing to devote the time necessary to parse a complex situation and make just and appropriate decisions. In other words, they could not see the forest from the trees and enforce the true spirit of the applicable guidelines. You shouldn't worry about me being "part of the problem". This is not the sort of thing I'm on Wikipedia to do. And this interlude is not typical of the kind of editing I engage in, though the same cannot be said for other involved parties. I spent a great deal of time and effort in 2010 and 2011 working on Wikipedia, and have planned to scale back my contributions this year so that I can better pursue other goals in my life, both professional and avocational outside of Wikipedia. What time I do have left to devote here I would much rather spend advancing my main focus, which is college sports and the project management and standardization needed to support and improve that subject area. Nonetheless, I feel compelled to make a case before the community at large about this incident, and do my best to see that these problems are addressed properly. Jweiss11, I know you mean well and only have the best intentions, but consider the fact that the majority of your contributions are in article, not project space. And, that's a good thing! HOWEVER, this means you are inexperienced when it comes to the way things are done on the admin boards, and in all honesty, you are going about this the wrong way. But, there's good news! (No, it has nothing to do with car insurance...) You can get the outcome you are looking for by listening to other editors who have been where you are now. First step you need to take is a step back. Forget about this for at least week. Do something else. Let your anger die down until you get back into the flow of healthy editing again. THEN, and only then, return to this subject. When you do, discuss it with editors you trust and get their opinion. I guarantee you are going to feel completely different in a week, and you will have gained some perspective that you otherwise don't have due to the emotional influence that's motivating you at the moment. Anupam topic ban

If you start the RfC about Anupam's obvious POV pushing I will support it. From my recent interactions with him it is obvious he is pushing a religious point of view while trying to appear civil. However civil POV pushing is just as actionable as other forms of disruptive editing here on Wikipedia. New football team navboxes

User:Ejgreen77 has been making football team navboxes without following WP:CFB consensus as to the layout, so I left him a note. I saw where you had also mentioned this to him back in September 2011. Since you were the one primarily responsible for either creating or revamping most of those team navboxes back in the day, I was hoping you could backtrack his edits to see which ones need to be fixed and then do that. I already fixed {{Albany Great Danes football navbox}} and {{Santa Clara Broncos football navbox}}, but I don't have the resources at my disposal like you do to know what rivalries, lore, etc. belong Ejgreen's new football navboxes. In fact, I'm tempted to TfD both the Vermont and Canisius ones if nothing more can be found in order to make them conform to the CFB standards. Could you help me out? Jrcla2, I noticed some of this the other week, but didn't have a chance to deal with it, so thank you for taking the lead. You did some nice work, surely as good as I could do, researching the relatively obscure elements of the defunct Santa Clara football team, so don't sell yourself short. I agree, the Vermont and Canisius navboxes probably should be TfD'd. They are mostly nothing more than a retread of the analogous coach navboxes. I've declined the request for semi-protection on Alabama Crimson Tide which you posted yesterday; instead, I've blocked the IP. But I have to tell you that you are also guilty of edit-warring: it is not so clear-cut that the edits were vandalism by our definition, though they certainly were disruptive, and I didn't see any article talk page explanations, though you left a note on their talk page. I don't know if you reported them to AIV, where the disruption could have been dealt with more quickly (RFPP is slooooow sometimes). Anyway, after looking at that IP's talk page again I'm going to lengthen that block, but next time, stay on the safe side. I think that tenured editors such as myself ought to get a lot of latitude when dealing with new or anonymous editors that are clearly subverting Wikipedia, whether or not that subversion falls strictly under the definition of the "vandalism". As for the issue of semi-protection, I exchanged private emails with the offending IP editor. He named is [redacted] and he appears to be a US Army soldier stationed at Fort Stewart in Georgia. When I suggested to him that his behavior would lead to the blockage of the IP address he was using, he repsonded with this threat: "If the IP address is blocked due to someone posting historical and factual truth, so be it. Oh dear it looks we may have a royal mess of these three - can you take a look at the sources I found for R.R. and R.M. (as well as R.M.'s talk page) to hopefully link or straighten these three out? Seems R.R. worked in New Mexico per the Who's Who entry but I can't link him to Robert R.. R.M. supposedly went to Princeton but the Who's Who also says R.R. coached at Tulane (which we have R.M. as here). I attended a university in Virginia for two years, and worked in several Virginia cities after graduating from college, so I have some familiarity with Virginia geography. Lexington (Washington & Lee) and Blacksburg (Virginia Tech) are about 80 miles apart, straight down the Shenandoah Valley----probably a two-hour train trip in 1908. Both R.M. and R.R. have established connections to Virginia Tech; I am guessing that he might have served as a one-year "interim" coach for Tech in 1908, while serving as the full-time coach for W&L. I don't know how he doubled as the Tulane coach and W&L coach in 1909----obviously New Orleans and Virginia are more than 80 miles apart----but there are other examples of coaches working for two different colleges at the same time. For what its worth, it appears Va Tech had both RR and RM, I found the sources with RM going to Princeton in Virginia Tech sources. Connormah, before we positively conclude that R.M. and R.R. are different persons, please examine the infobox photos again. To my discerning eye, R.M. and R.R are clearly the same guy. Same face, same hairline. This raises one of two possibilities: one of the sources cited is wrong regarding alma maters, or we have included the photo of the wrong person in one of these articles. In any event, it would be a remarkable coincidence in this insular part of the South for two Ivy League-educated college football coaches, both named "Robert Brown," to be coaching at nearby institutions (as well as the same institution (VPI) in one instance) during the same time period. It is possible that Brown attended both Dartmouth or Princeton, or alternatively that the writers for the VPI yearbook and/or UVa newspaper simply confused two rival northeastern colleges. I would bet dollars to doughnuts that no one named "Robert Brown" played college football for four seasons at BOTH Dartmouth AND Princeton in the early 1900s. I don't believe in coincidences, and the photos tell me that some sort of misidentification has been made. It would be worth checking the Dartmouth and Princeton alumni directories or calling their alumni associations directly. I resolved one early 1900s coaching mystery by calling the Clemson alumni association, and the CUAA staff were happy to help (the subject coach was dead, so there were no privacy issues). Sorry, it's really confusing. Yes, R.R. (Robert Roswell) and Robert R. are the same person. The obit I found supports all of his coaching positions (additionally he coached at New Mexico Military for a long time, until 1948). The VPI photo came from the VPI yearbook (should be on the file description page). I cannot seem to find what happened to R.M. after VPI, but there was also a Ralph Manning Brown, Jr. who also went to Princeton, born to a Ralph Manning Brown, presumably, though just a guess at this point, the R.M. that coached at VPI. This R.M. Brown (class of 1907) was deceased by the son's graduation from Princeton in 1937. So basically R.R. (Robert Roswell) and Robert R. are the same person, he was a star on the Dartmouth team, coached at VPI, Tulane, Washington and Lee, New Mexico State, and New Mexico Military, and R.M. Nah, no reason to apologize. Like I said, I do love a good mystery, and I've worked with Jweiss on a couple of these early 1900s coach searches before. It sounds like you've got your answer. Now we just need to merge the R.R. Brown content into the Robert R. Brown article, and convert the R.R. Brown page to a redirect. I think this is a BRD situation, and doesn't require an AfD or any advance notice on the talk pages to complete the merge it. No one is going to object. Probably should add a link at the Buster Brown dismabiguation page, too. If you don't want to do the merge, I'm happy to do it, but it may be a couple of days.

I have my doubts as to whether Gus Brown of Colgate, R.M. Brown of Virginia Tech, and Ralph Manning Brown of Princeton are all the same person. According to Princeton records, he graduated in 1908. That would mean that he was coaching at Virginia Tech while still a student. It does seem likely that the Princeton student and Colgate coach may be the same. If you guys pursue further, here are some clues. Ralph Manning Brown of Princeton was raised in Elizabeth, New Jersey. He entered Princeton University as a freshman in 1904. He graduated from Princeton as part of the Class of 1908. Thanks so much. Also it seems that I may have finally solved the mystery of Captain Aldworth of Maine, though mainly coincidence/assumption, I've linked him to Donald R. Aldworth, captain of the Minnesota football team in 1913. It seems Aldworth resided in New York but ultimately ended up retiring to Maine (in the same county as the Univ. is). He also attended courses in Maine in 1918 at the university, so I'm pretty sure it's a match. A. S. Jeffs

Regarding A. S. Jeffs, former U of Washington coach, this 1916 publication states he went to Minnesota, but I've e-mailed the U of Minn archives and they have no record of him there. However, I did find an "A. S. Jeffs" (Alexander Samuel Jeffs) who went to Stanford, played football there and was from Washington bio on pg 695 here. He died April 27, 1905 [6], probably in Washington where he worked as a lawyer. Could this possibly be a mixup in the original source and do you think the A. S. Jeffs from Stanford probably coached at Washington? The coincidences are pretty overwhelming - born in Washington, played football at Stanford, returned to Washington... I recall you mentioning that your father attended UM in the Stan Noskin era and got a kick out of reading that article. I'm trying to tackle the task of filling out UM team articles here and there. Recently completed the 1943 and 1976 teams. I was wondering if there is a year that might be especially memorable for your father. While 1959 was a losing season, it may still be especially memorable to him. If you were interested, we could team up on improving that year's article as a Hannukah-Christmas-Kwanzaa-Winter Solstice gift to the Class of 1960. Let me know if you're interested.
