Table of Contents Breakage[edit]

The table of contents does not work. Please see Template talk:Game-screenshot for more information. StuartBrady 03:39, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed. JYolkowski // talk 18:41, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No. This has not fixed the problem satisfactorily. There are still images under 'I' that don't belong there. StuartBrady 21:28, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
See Template talk:Game-screenshot for how to fix any images that are not indexed properly. JYolkowski // talk 03:07, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sub-categories?[edit]

There are now a quite enormous number of screenshots in this category. StuartBrady has done a splendid job in creating a few sub-categories (Category:ZX Spectrum game screenshots, Category:Commodore 64 game screenshots and Category:Amstrad CPC game screenshots) and categorizing a large amount of screenshots. However, the screenshots also remain in the parent category.

Is it desireable to reduce the number of screenshots in this parent category? If so, should this be done on the form of Template:Nintendo-screenshot (to ensure that the licensing text is appropriate)? Are there any BOTs to automate this process?

I would think that it's a good idea to have more templates to reduce the number of images in the parent category, as long as the wording of the templates is copied from one of the existing templates. If you can determine how to automate the process, you could try asking at Wikipedia:Bot requests. JYolkowski // talk 23:51, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. I'll do this, if there are no objections. The only question is, what should I call the new templates? --StuartBrady 02:11, 15 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'd proposed something in the line of Template:ZX-Spectrum-game-screenshot and Template:Amstrad-CPC-game-screenshot. It is fairly consistent with both the current template naming and corresponding category naming. --Frodet 12:28, 15 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have just created Template:ZX-Spectrum-game-screenshot and have updated Image:The_Fourth_Protocol-The_Bomb.png with the new template. The image is removed from Category:Screenshots of computer and video games but appears in Category:ZX Spectrum game screenshots as it's supposed to. However, the above mentioned image is put last in the alphabetical category listing. Is this a fault with the template or within MediaWiki?

I think I might know why — the other screenshots are sorted as "Image:PAGENAME". So the fix is either to add "Image:" to the template (which I don't recommend), or to make everything use the template. Perhaps MediaWiki really ought to do the Right Thing automatically, though. --StuartBrady 22:49, 19 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I've started making images use the new template. I've gone through the list alphabetically, and have got as far as "Spectrum Knight Tyme.png". --StuartBrady 23:35, 19 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

We have got to do something about some of the subcategory templates. Any games with those templates are now in the parent category as well as in their respective subcategories so, quite frankly, the parent category's really stuffed. We should fix those templates and make as many subcategories as possible so it'll be something like Category: Video game covers. N. Harmonik 13:53, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sega screenshots[edit]

I notice that, while there are many categories for Nintendo screenshots, there don't seem to be any for Sega. Is there a particular reason, or is it just that noone has gotten around to it? CountingPine 02:35, 20 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No replies leads me to assume the latter case. I'll see about setting some up. CountingPine 22:56, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

screenshots fair use[edit]

can someone PLEASE tell me what's considered an OK rationele for uploading screenshots? WHY are my uploaded screenshots getting deleted???!!!!!!!!. please help me. thank you. --Steve, Sm8900 (talk) 22:23, 29 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not an expert, but something like this will probably do. If it had been a modern game I might have reduced the resolution to 300 to make it more fair-use, but with older games like that, where every pixel counts, I think the quality would suffer too much.
