This article is completely inaccurate. MH Shakir was my grandfather. I have an excerpt from one of the Quran's that have been published by him.

"The late Mr. Mahomedali Habib was well know throughout the country of Pakistan for having devoted his life to the cause of humanity. He with his bothers founded many educations and belevolent insititutions the most important being Masoomeen Hospital.

This translation was completed by him on the 14th Shaban and the very next day he suffered a severe heart attack and passed away on the 20th of Ramadhan ie 30th March 1959"

Intresting. Is he a Shi'a? His translation is definitly Shi'a, just look at 5:55. Do you have sources for your claim? --Striver 12:03, 7 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Quran 5:55 translated by Shakir[edit]

With reference to last edit by User:Striver [1].

Here are three translation for 5:55

YUSUFALI: Your (real) friends are (no less than) Allah, His Messenger, and the (fellowship of) believers,- those who establish regular prayers and regular charity, and they bow down humbly (in worship).

PICKTHAL: Your guardian can be only Allah; and His messenger and those who believe, who establish worship and pay the poordue, and bow down (in prayer).

SHAKIR: Only Allah is your Vali and His Messenger and those who believe, those who keep up prayers and pay the poor-rate while they bow.

I may be missing the point entirely, but I can't see what this has to do with the Shia point of view. I would appreciate any guidance in this regards. Thank you.

Im sorry, i forgot about this. The SHAKIR version goes "vali", implying the Shi'a conotation linked to the hadith of Ghadire Khumm and he also states "pay the poor-rate while they bow", something that only Ali did. The other versions make that interpretation impossible. Further, only a Shi'a would bother to enable a Shi'a interpretation. Either SHAKIR was Shi'a or he plagirized some SHi'as work. --Striver 12:41, 6 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

We should remove the content suggesting he is the quran translator[edit]

The Quran translation was done by a Pakistani Shi'a, so it cannot be this man as there are not really Shi'a in Egypt to my knowledge and Al-Azhar is Sunni. This is a totally different person. --Zaynab1418 (talk) 17:05, 22 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
