Contested deletion[edit]

This article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because... (your reason here) --E1ven (talk) 16:55, 15 August 2012 (UTC) Tarsnap is a widely used, and widely deployed system backup utility. Google shows over 160,000 results It's been written about in many blogs, sites, and other prominent publications- https://lwn.net/Articles/423747/ www.bsdcan.org/2012/schedule/attachments/218_crowdsec.pdf http://www.technobits.net/articles/22020/a-cost-analysis-of-dynamodb-for-tarsnap/ http://www.daemonology.net/blog/2011-01-18-tarsnap-critical-security-bug.html[reply]

Contested deletion[edit]

This article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because... the above reasons, plus Tarsnap received 10 pages of coverage in the August 2012 edition of Linux Journal, plus Tarsnap is referenced from scrypt and key derivation function --Cperciva (talk) 17:47, 15 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Some material to consider adding[edit]

Since I'm the owner of Tarsnap, in keeping with WP:COI I don't want to make substantive edits to the page; but some things which I personally think are noteworthy and not included in the page yet are:

  • The security model with "restricted" write-only and read-only keys[1][2]
  • The scrypt key derivation function (groundbreaking cryptography developed for Tarsnap)
  • The January 2011 security vulnerability[3][4]
  • Tarsnap bug bounties[5][6][7]
  • Support for open source software[8][9][10] — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cperciva (talkcontribs) 00:17, 16 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your suggestions. Edit requests are primarily for requesting a review of text you have written yourself but cannot add to the article due to a conflict-of-interest. Therefore, specific edit requests will be prioritized, but general requests for expanding an article are more time-consuming and may be addressed later, as we are currently trying to pare down a backlog of 190 edit requests.
