Conti on vfd[edit]

I have removed Conti from VfD as an article having a name similar to your user name is not a reason to delete it. Please read the Deletion policy for information on what may be listed. You can always change your user name. Angela

I didn't put it into VfD because it was similiar to my name. A friend of mine wanted to "prove" that wikipedia isn't perfect (or something like that) and made that article with silly informations about me. I put that page into VfD. He (his IP was 213.208.90.27) then changed my entry (in VfD) from "nonsense" to "too similar to my name, don't like it" and added information to Conti so it won't be deleted. I just want the information about me removed from the article because it is clearly not of public interest. Conti, 10 Nov 2003
Well, there doesn't seem to be any information in it about you now, so hopefully you are happy for it to be kept. I didn't realise your words on VfD had been changed. Don't worry, there are lots of people looking out for vandalism, so I'm sure 213.208.90.27 won't cause any permanent damage. Angela 03:25, 10 Nov 2003 (UTC)
I removed the information about me now. I don't have a problem with the article, as long as it's not about me ;-) Thank you for your help! Conti, 03:40, 10 Nov 2003 (UTC)

hey there[edit]

*hugs a foxie* hey there... I never knew you were on Wikipedia, too. ^_^ -- Schnee 18:55, 1 Jun 2004 (UTC)

surnames[edit]

We alphabetize articles according to surname. East Asian surnames are listed first. For example, Chiang Kai-shek's family name is Chiang, not Kai-shek. He should therefore be listed under C. I've reverted some of your edits accordingly. --Jiang 23:45, 23 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for the advise! I already stopped sorting some names because I don't know how to sort them (Nguyen Cao Ky for example). I hope the other edits I made are ok :-) --Conti 23:50, 23 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Yep, it's confusing. Some of the articles, like Mizoguchi Kenji, have the surname in call caps so it is easily distinguishable. Then, we have Koizumi Junichiro, whose surname is Koizumi but listed under Junichiro Koizumi because the western media chooses to use the western convention for him.--Jiang 23:58, 23 Jun 2004 (UTC)

hmm, that's why the esperanto wiki has all surnames in caps maybe? I already wondered about that.. I have the same problem with arab names, so I won't touch them either. Someone who knows more about non-western names can do that part. :-) --Conti 00:10, 24 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Vietnam war people[edit]

I noticed you put Survivor Rudy Boesch under "Vietnam War people". I don't think he's notable enough for that category.

Nice interests, BTW. :) Mike H 23:54, Jun 23, 2004 (UTC) (Edited because it logged me out! Gomen-nasai!)

I didn't. I just went through Category:Vietnam War people to sort the people by their surname, and not their first name. As far as I know he belongs in that category, as long as he has/had something to do with the vietnam war, but I might be wrong with this. --Conti 23:56, 23 Jun 2004 (UTC)
I understand that he had something to do with the war, but isn't that a bit vague? He was a soldier, and he's listed with Richard Nixon and whatnot. Mike H 23:59, Jun 23, 2004 (UTC)
I'm not sure about the policy of categories in that point.. I just sorted his name for that category, not thinking about if he belongs in that category at all or not, so feel free to remove that catgory from his article. :-) --Conti 00:10, 24 Jun 2004 (UTC)
I know this'll make me sound whiny and for no reason...but I'll leave it there unless someone else makes the judgment call. ;) Mike H 00:14, Jun 24, 2004 (UTC)
Hehe.. I think technically the category in his article is right, otherwise it should be named "Important Vientman War people", so I let it stay there. --Conti 00:19, 24 Jun 2004 (UTC)
Indeed. Good job, me! :D Mike H 00:20, Jun 24, 2004 (UTC)

Regarding Pearl video[edit]

[I moved my comments from WhisperToMe's Talk page here, so it's easier to follow the discussion. --Conti]

You made this edit a while ago. was the "<" just a little mistake of yours or is it really in the video? --Conti| 16:21, 1 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Yes, those capitalization and spelling mistakes really were in the video. (Hence, the words "sic" comes up - those say that it was not the author that made the spelling mistakes!) WhisperToMe 16:56, 1 Jul 2004 (UTC)

I'm not speaking about the spelling mistakes, but about the symbol "<":
- The delivery of F-16 planes that pakistan [sic] had paid for and never recieved [sic].<
In earlier versions of the article there wasn't a "<" in the text, so it looked to me like a mistake.. also, this site doesn't have the "<" as well.. --Conti| 17:07, 1 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Oh, now I think the symbol is a mistake. Lemme take it out. WhisperToMe 17:11, 1 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Hehe, I guessed so, but I rather asked here at first, seeing all the other mistakes in the text.. :-) --Conti| 17:22, 1 Jul 2004 (UTC)

TY for the help on Ambulance chaser[edit]

Thanks for the help on [Ambulance chaser]. I am new. I was wondering how to do the stub thing. Thanks again. --ozzy 03:54, 2004 Jul 16 (UTC)

You're welcome. Wikipedia:Template namespace might be helpful to learn more about templates (like Template:Stub). :) --Conti| 12:14, 16 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Requests for comment[edit]

You removed Talk:The Lord of the Rings from Wikipedia:Requests for comment, saying "seems to be resolved", but no explanation of the resolution appeared on Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Article content disputes archive. It would be nice if you could add an explanation there. Gdr 20:41, 2004 Jul 24 (UTC)

Whoops. Done now. --Conti| 21:13, 24 Jul 2004 (UTC)
Thanks. Gdr 21:48, 2004 Jul 24 (UTC)

Thich Quang Duc[edit]

In Thich Quang Duc you updated the layout, but you also changed the quote in the article. Is that really what you intended to do? I checked all google results for "I was to see that sight again, but once was enough." (including the quotes) and some have . where you put ?. ; others have ... there. Tinus 20:56, 28 Jul 2004 (UTC)

I didn't noticed that. My browser seems to have some problems with the "..." and changed it to a quotation mark without telling me so. I changed that back now, thanks for telling me that! --Conti| 13:32, 29 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Sneaky vandalism[edit]

I'm curious. I've looked at the diffs for List of unseen characters and I can't see what the anon changed that you reverted, yet it comes up as a change in the coloured diff. What's going on? Marnanel 19:10, 1 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Hmm, works for me. ([1]). Or do you mean the first highlighted paragraph? He changed something there too, and I simply reverted all of his edits, because I couldn't find out what he has done on that paragraph as well, maybe some spacing. --Conti| 22:53, Aug 1, 2004 (UTC)

Continuum article[edit]

Thanks for all the help with SubSpace. :) As the other major author, would you be in agreement with placing it into peer review? I'd like to get it up to featured article status. --Slowking Man 08:18, Aug 10, 2004 (UTC)

You're welcome! (Although I think that you've done alot more work to the article than I did ;-) ) I think putting the article on peer review is a good idea, so yes, I agree! --Conti| 15:12, Aug 10, 2004 (UTC)

Adminship[edit]

Sorry to bug you again, but would you accept a nomination for adminship? I think you would make an excellent admin. You've been a member for over a year, and have taken on some of the more grueling tasks at Wikipedia, such as moving articles around, Wikifying, etc. --Slowking Man 22:26, Aug 13, 2004 (UTC)

After thinking about it for a while, I accept the nomination. :-) --Conti| 02:38, Aug 14, 2004 (UTC)
You've been nominated at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship#Current nominations. --Slowking Man 03:12, Aug 14, 2004 (UTC)

Sysop[edit]

Congratulations! You are now an administrator. You should read the relevant policies and other pages linked to from the administrators' reading list before carrying out tasks like deletion, protection, banning users, and editing protected pages. Most of what you do is easily reversible by other sysops, apart from page history merges and image deletion, so please be especially careful with those. You might find the administrators' how-to guide helpful. Good luck. Angela. 02:42, Aug 20, 2004 (UTC)

Thank you very much. :-) --Conti| 08:56, Aug 20, 2004 (UTC)
Congratulations! (Should have put the one above down here, but there's nothing wrong with two congratulations I guess!) PMcM 14:07, 20 Aug 2004 (UTC)
And there's nothing wrong with two "Thank you". So: Thank you. :) --Conti| 15:00, Aug 20, 2004 (UTC)

Hi there, foxie. I'm trying to move the article about the departamento (department) of Colombia, Arauca Department, to only Arauca since that's the name of the departamento. But I cannot do the moving, for when I try to do so, I get the following message:

The page could not be moved: a page of that name already exists, or the name you have chosen is not valid. Please choose another name, or contact an Administrator to help you with the move.

And you were in the list of administrators, so I decided to contact you. Could you please help me with the moving?.
Thanks. --Fibonacci 01:40, 22 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Hey there, fellow fox. I've deleted Arauca and moved the page. You can list the article at Wikipedia:Speedy deletions with a short explanation why you want it deleted the next time. But of course you can ask me directly again if you wish. :-) --Conti| 01:52, Aug 22, 2004 (UTC)
Okay, I'll do that next time, then. Or maybe not, asking you was very quick. Well, I'll see if the situation arises again...
Thank you for your help, fox. --Fibonacci 02:11, 22 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Votes for deletion/European Union Olympic medals count for 2004[edit]

You may be interested in a last-ditch attempt to save User:Pgreenfinch's endangered article European Union Olympic medals count for 2004 which is on a subpage page of VfD at Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/European Union Olympic medals count for 2004. Because this is a subpage it may not be noticed by those scanning the regular VfD page. Recent votes to keep appear to be sock-puppets or people who have become users only to support this article. You may wish to add your vote or comments or both. Jallan 13:21, 23 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Speedy deletion[edit]

Could you please enlighten my why Rithmomachy got deleted? I haven't found an obvious reason and also have not found any reasoning under Talk:Rithmomachy. Thnx.

Because the article was just a weblink with tiny description of its topic. Wikipedia is not a link collection, therefore articles with just an external link on them are getting deleted quickly. If you want to help Wikipedia grow, write at least a small describing paragraph about the topic of your choice. I hope I haven't scared you off Wikipedia yet, you are very welcome here if you want to contribute to this project. --Conti| 14:41, Aug 31, 2004 (UTC)

foxes[edit]

Hey conte,

i love foxes too... i live in rural hereforfshire uk and there is a love/hate relationship with the animals here, i really dislike fox hunts and find them quite abhorent, i ran over an already dead fox tonight (they are often squished on these rural roads) and i felt uncomfortable about it, i also saved a fox tnte as i avoided knocking one down as oposed to my friend that would see the animal as a vermin. :(

Oh Yeah! Cartoons[edit]

In regards to the episode list you deleted, I couldn't tell ya anymore. The cartoon vandal's editing has been harder to categorise lately... The film festival bit was announced recently though. This page has certainly been subject to sneaky vandalism over the last few months, see User:Morwen/Cartoon. Rhymeless 02:57, 7 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for the link, I didn't knew that this vandal was already known. I made my own little watchlist for the articles he visits regulary [2]. Some help on fact-checking of his additions would be really great! :-) --Conti| 12:16, Sep 7, 2004 (UTC)

B-Movie[edit]

I was the anon who removed that needless comment from Gzornenplatz. Garbage like that is the reason that I am no longer contributing to this site. I would appreciate you not humiliating me by allowing that comment to stand. - Lucky 6.9 19:33, 11 Sep 2004 (UTC)

I reverted you because anons tend to remove paragraphs in articles without any reasoning lately. I'm sorry if I reverted you wrongly, so feel free to revert me again. Some reason for your actions in your edit summary would still be appreciated tho. :-) --Conti| 19:38, Sep 11, 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for finding that photo! I don't think it was there the last time I checked, so I'm glad you went looking. Elf | Talk 02:42, 12 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Featured Pictures Candidates[edit]

My apologies – I moved three featured pictures from Featured Pictures Candidates straight to Featured Pictures and didn't add the nominations to the archive. I didn't actually know there was an archive page, because I didn’t notice the link on the candidate page. Sorry 'bout that. Won't happen again. Neutrality (talk) 15:41, Sep 20, 2004 (UTC)

I, also, had an "editing goof". I thought I was adding my pic of V-2 rocket at National Air and Space to the nomination page, and added it directly to the featured page. He, he, but now that I see the other great, great pics up for nomination, I am embarased to put mine up. KeyStroke 00:06, 2004 Sep 21 (UTC)

Ken Jennings[edit]

I am at a loss as to why you removed my edits from this article. To anyone who has followed Jennings' winning streak, the info was pertinent, since he was defeated by a contestant who from the start of the show appeared to be no match for him. His loss was due to his own mistakes, not because the winner was a better player. TOM 15:50, Dec 1, 2004 (UTC)

Sorry, I thought I just reverted this edit, in which you removed alot of stuff from the article. I should've reverted that part manually, but I unfortunately didn't noticed you made a good edit before that. --Conti| 16:10, Dec 1, 2004 (UTC)

Article Licensing[edit]

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 1000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. re: template[edit]

I didn't make it myself. Tbsdy came onto IRC and asked for help going through the archives of peer review and mark them with that template. I decided to help out. I think it's a good notice, reminding people that the article is in the peer review archives in case they can't find it up for peer review. Hope that put your mind to ease a little. Inter 11:11, 30 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Ya. That's why I made it. I'd like people to keep commenting on peer review, especially now that people can add them to their watchlists! - Ta bu shi da yu 00:10, 31 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Well, it's also useful because this way people can know that it was already listed on peer review. I don't see the problem: the Template:featured template stays on there permanently. Still, if you don't like it then you should feel free to list it on templates for deletion. However, if you do and it gets deleted it will make my job of maintaining the peer review page that much more difficult. - Ta bu shi da yu 21:23, 31 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Well, it helps me because that way we can tell whether it has already been reviewed or not. It helps authors who would like to get feedback, because then they know what comments have been made previously. I have often listed an article on peer review, then come back and couldn't find the comments people had given me! That's why I transcluded the pages (this took a great deal of time and effort). Having a reference to the old transcluded page is extremely useful. I'm wondering if you could suggest a better place to keep that reference, other than on the talk page of the article? I certainly wouldn't want to have to hunt through the old archives. Also, the oldpeerreview template helps me work out whether then peer review template has been shifted to a subpage from the subpage and whether I need to make a note on the transcluded page that there are old archives of peerreview comments. - Ta bu shi da yu 21:50, 31 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Hmmm... I guess. Thing is, the way the subpages are setup, it's not clear that the comments were originally from peer review. I was thinking of making a similar template for VfD. - Ta bu shi da yu 22:13, 31 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Look, do what you want with it. I've had enough of the criticism. I'm bowing out of this. I'm seriously considering whether I can be bothered doing the thankless task of commenting and maintaining the Wikipedia:Peer review page. - Ta bu shi da yu 22:42, 31 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Ya, I know. Maybe I'm a little sensitive about things at the moment... not just on Wikipedia. I'll keep maintaining the page. - Ta bu shi da yu 22:57, 31 Jan 2005 (UTC)

help[edit]

sorry to bother you, but im a n00b here and im struggling. The Help sections are not exactly verbose or easy to find. I found the admin list and picked one at random.....

Currently, im trying to work out how you add images. Ive worked out how to upload , then it goes pear shaped if you follow the instructions:

It says Follow the link Image:file.gig to the desription page now and put in the following info: - - add a copyright tag - -

Now, either im thick or Wiki help isnt clear.............

There is no tag at the top of the page that says 'Description' so what page exactly do I put this information on? An example would be nice, instead of having to guess!!

Also, actually finding special pages is a nightmare. The Sandbox I only refound when I got to this page and you had a link to it.

Also, I cant remember my Wiki password, and there is no apparant way to get help to recover it.

To say Im getting frustrated and about to give up is an understatement...........which would be a shame, as I have a lot to contribute, look at my history list to date.

Please can you reply to lincspoacher1@hotmail.com or pass this to someone who can help me, thank you ever so much

Thank YOU for being nice, though.

Deathrock page[edit]

hmm I can see why you deleted those links off the deathrock fashion page, but on the deathrock page they seemed to fit, you know? The "The 3 Furies- Psychobilly night in Philly" seemed spammy, but Ny Decay and Drop Dead Festival links seem like they should be there. The impression I get is that they're pretty big events within the deathrock community Lyo 19:31, 6 Apr 2005 (UTC)

ADHD[edit]

FYI, I think that the NPOV flag keeps coming back from someone who comes in through a IP address (but a steady one). I have drawn the person out a little on Talk page and seems to be a young person who doesn't believe that ADD/ADHD exists and has possibly been forced into medication or something like that. You will see the messages on the Talk page for ADHD. Vaoverland 23:34, Apr 7, 2005 (UTC)

Featured template[edit]

Hey there. Thanks for the comments at User_talk:Violetriga/statusdevelopment. I've implemented the suggestion but been reverted at featured by JDG. I'm rather annoyed at his manner and the way he's done this (his message on my talk is somewhat off) and he's not tried to collaborate on a compromise at all. While I know this is somewhat wrong I'd appreciate you putting it back to my version (I'd break 3RR to do so) if you saw fit. Obviously if you don't want to get involved or prefer the old version I would not take any offense at you not doing this. Thanks, violet/riga (t) 12:29, 11 Apr 2005 (UTC)

That's fine thanks - it was wrong of me to ask you anyway. I did actually post on the VP and mentioned it on IRC and Wiki-EnL but to little attention, so I implemented it. Shame that someone reverts it without trying to work towards a compromise, but you're right - best for the revert war to end. violet/riga (t) 16:07, 11 Apr 2005 (UTC)
I've tried getting more consensus, but it shouldn't require a poll just to satisfy the whim of one editor.  :( Thanks for the comments. violet/riga (t) 18:27, 11 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Again, thanks for the comments, this time attempting to help resolve the issue. You're right, I am very annoyed at the way in which this has gone, though I am trying to keep calm about it. violet/riga (t) 18:56, 11 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Yeah hopefully something positive will come of it. As it stands though FARC, FAC and PR templates use the new style but FA uses the old. violet/riga (t) 19:36, 11 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Good job ContiE. An Administrator comes to you trying to form a revert tag team and you kept your integrity. I don't have one of those barn stars handy, but, nice going. JDG 17:55, 11 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Earthy colours templates[edit]

Hi ContiE, I've made a different version of Violetriga's templates, with slightly different text and different colours. Since you were interested in the idea of a competition I thought you'd be interested in my version. They are at User:Talrias/Templates. :) Talrias (t | e | c) 19:47, 12 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Re:Calligraphy[edit]

I thought it would be best to have all content on calligraphy in one place. It's not too much anyway. It's better than having to click around searching for all calligraphy stuff.

I'm setting all the links right.

Thanks,I'm sort of new here and I still haven't read the guides...will read them soon.--Jetru 11:09, Apr 26, 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for listing this on Image sleuths. I wasn't sure where to bring it up, but I am sure the fine sleuths there will be able to sort this out. I just want to make sure Wikipedia doesn't get in any trouble! — Knowledge Seeker 06:40, 2 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Collaboration of the week for Dan Gable[edit]

Hello,

I have nominated the artical on Dan Gable for the calaboration of the week. But the artical needs as much support as possible. This will be a tough one that has potential to become a collaborated artical with help of people like you. Please place your vote at the collaboration of the week artical under the Dan Gable Section. Thank you very much for your help. ZeWrestler 17:48, 17 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Furry[edit]

Please respond to my question on RFM regarding the Furry mediation. Mgm|(talk) 17:20, Jun 5, 2005 (UTC)

 • My mistake. I thought you wanted to be the official mediator to handle the case which would be impossible since you openly supported one of the two parties involved. Sorry. Mgm|(talk) 21:55, Jun 5, 2005 (UTC)

202.1.193.14 block[edit]

Hello there,

I can see that you have blocked the ip 202.1.193.14 because user Appleman was created using this IP. This ip is an ISP proxy (not public). Instead of blocking the IP, wouldn't it be ideal to block just the user as this will allow the genuine users edit the pages?

I think I quite agree, I'm afraid I missed the larger sense when editing thid article's category. Cheers for the pointer Nigosh 23:00, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Please do not vandalize pages[edit]

Page blanking is vandalism. I did have trouble because wikipedia crashed for a long time after I tried to edit a page and the edits were incomplete, but please do not vandalize pages by blanking them. A cited the best sources I could find for a page with no sources and what looks like mostly original research. 211.99.9.60 15:21, 14 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I'm half with you on the revert to that page, but note that DE is still in the 200k band, and JA and FR in the 100k band. Although the page has a 1, 2, 5 repeating pattern increasing in magnitudes, I think that may just be accidental. I propose we add a new row for 600k and move EN into it, and leave 500k blank. Now call me nuts and explain why not. 600k feels like a milestone to me. best wishes --Tagishsimon (talk)

Funny Animal / Talking Animal talk pages[edit]

I would appreciate if you would read the articles or discussion properly before edits - this is the second time you have edited anything regarding Talking animal incorrectly (the first time without checking that half the article is not about fictional characters). In the discussion (that was in the archive) I expressed that I wanted to archive those sections because they were too much like personal attacks - Xydexx was accussing a group of people that they are actively destroying wikipedia pages and I was accusing Xydexx of being unable to argue himself out of a bucket. The reasoning to archive them is to not incite matters anymore in case some other user jumps in and gets personal regarding the articles. -- Grumpyhan 00:16, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home[edit]

I fail to see how your increasing the image size makes the list smaller. By my reckoning, it made it longer... Cburnett 22:46, Jun 26, 2005 (UTC)

It grew a bit in witdh of course, but it got smaller. The old version ends on the start of the trivia section, the new one ends on the last paragraph on the themes section. At least here on my browser. A much more simple way to reduce the size would be to remove some unimportant names of course, there are quite a lot. --Conti| 22:51, Jun 26, 2005 (UTC)
Your font size must be smaller than mine. The image isn't the full width of the infobox. I'm seeking a solution to use the white space instead of font "tricks". :) Cburnett 22:55, Jun 26, 2005 (UTC)
Well, that was the first thing that came to my mind when I read you question on the template talk page. At least it works here ;-) --Conti| 22:58, Jun 26, 2005 (UTC)

A Practical Guide to Suicide[edit]

Why did you remove the link to A Practical Guide to Suicide from the suicide article? It's just as relevant as the pro-choice FAQ. – 83.108.3.189 4 July 2005 00:37 (UTC)

No it's not. Suicidal people should rather read about how to get better than how to actually commit suicide. --Conti| July 4, 2005 00:55 (UTC)
I disagree from personal experience when I used to want to commit suicide. Arights 10:08, 26 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What about the principle of NPOV? Have you even read the article that you just edited? It already contains arguments for suicide, in addition to references to other suicide guides (such as ASH Methods File and Suicide wiki)! As far as I can tell, your edit is entirely biased. – 83.108.3.189 4 July 2005 01:00 (UTC)

You're right, I'm kind of biased here. So I started a discussion on the talk page, asking for opinions of others on this topic. --Conti| July 4, 2005 01:13 (UTC)

FARC[edit]

Hi there - just a note to (i) thank you for archiving the FARC discussion of World War I (one of those parts of Wikipedia, like violetriga on WP:RM, that goes largely unnoticed but which contributes to the efficient running of Wikipedia) but (ii) remind you that, now we have whizzy sub-pages and all, we also have fancy templates for the talk pages - FARCfailed and formerFA, depending on whether the article keeps or loses its "featured" status. Yes, I know, it is a bit of m:instruction creep, but the idea it to make it easier to find previous FARC discussions, and the farc template needs dealing with in any event... -- ALoan (Talk) 4 July 2005 22:02 (UTC)

Whoops. I simply forgot about that and went through my usual routine. I don't really mind adding the templates to the article talk pages, as I have to edit them anyways (as you already mentioned). Thanks for reminding me and adding the template to World War I. --Conti| July 4, 2005 22:11 (UTC)

Image:Frozen-bubble.jpg[edit]

Go on then. How did the fair use copyrighted image from EN get transformed into a not copyrighted GPL image on Commons. Magic. --Tagishsimon (talk)

[4] refers. I think these images might just need to be deleted from Commons? Your thoughts? --Tagishsimon (talk)
"Note that the screenshot may be published under this free license only if all the images used for the program GUI have a free license." The image was tagged wrongly. It is a screenshot of a game that is licensed under the GPL, therefore the screenshot is licensed under the GPL as well.--Conti| July 5, 2005 18:07 (UTC)
Well that's alright then. thanks. --Tagishsimon (talk)

VfD[edit]

Hiya, would it be possible for you to re-add a comment to VfD, as for some reason something to do with Wikipedia caused an addition by me to simultaneously delete an edit by you - [5]

~~~~ 6 July 2005 23:09 (UTC)
I already reinserted my comment and left a message on your talk page, asking for the reason behind that edit. Maybe you should check your talk page a bit more often, but thanks for the explanation. --Conti| July 6, 2005 23:22 (UTC)
As the result of a dispute over its previous TFD, the template showing Spielberg's films has been folded into a discussion of similar templates and renominated for deletion. I am contacting everyone who voted on the original TFD so that they will have another chance to make sure their opinion is heard.
The new vote is here.
Retconning the meaning of Retcon[edit]
Please read the article's description of what a retcon can include, particularly the section about "additive" retcons. Your edit comments such as "just filling empty spaces of history, and not changing anything" suggest that you haven't because that is a type of retcon (and in fact, what the term was coined to describe). And when you say "see talk" as an edit comment, it's customary to actually put an explanation on the Talk page. Tverbeek 13:09, 19 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Wenlin vfd[edit]
A couple of questions.
Who takes initiative and decides it is an ad, not an encyclopedic article discussing many similar pieces of software? Just because a number of supporters vote to keep it, that doesn't mean it belongs in an encyclopedia.
The page has been changed since the first vfd, does this mean that it cannot be voted on again (because when I tried to follow the process there was a note at the bottom saying achived discussion.
The page remains an ad for Tom Bishop and his software. Mccready 11:33, 25 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Middle-earth[edit]
Greetings from the real Middle-earth! You've not done much on that subject for a few months but your watchlist (which features on a "Shire (Middle-earth)" redirect page in "what links here") is huge. I've not checked for contributions, but if you have been doing things to major articles some of your work may be getting added to the LOTR Wikicity. Appropriately acknowledged, of course. You may like to help with the process! Robin Patterson 04:44, 30 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Some time ago, you supported the nomination of American Old West at the COTW. I have now renominated it at the new US Collaboration. If you are still interested, you can support the article with your vote there!--Fenice 08:56, 10 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I am posting this to all the particants of the Wikipedia:Categories for deletion/Category:Books by title discussion and debate. (Where the categories were voted for deletion).
This earlier discussion has been cited as an example as to why the category Category:Mountains by Elevation (km) (and sub cats) should be deleted.
Could you please take a look at the following CFD and vote. Wikipedia:Categories for deletion/Log/2005 September 1#Category:Mountains by Elevation (km) and its subcategories
A complication could be that Category: British Hills by Height seems be to liked by the actual British Hills content contributors. By contrast the category Category:Mountains by_Elevation (km) is not liked by User:RedWolf who seems to be a major Mountain page contributor.
Special note: the Ocean trenches by depth categories were added after the all of the people had voted. But frankly these have no real contributors and would probably get deleted if another vote was taken. You should specifically mention these to ensure there is no confusion in future.
Techie Stuff[edit]
Ey dude, im desperately looking everywhere for a comprehensive definition for the following nerdy words. everywhere, everyone uses BIG words that i dont understand:
 • Framework
 • API
 • Vertex Shaders
 • Pixel Shaders
 • Hyper-Threading
What I Know
i get the idea of all of these words except Framework, but i would like to know the EXACT definitions pleez. Like, i know that some types of API's are DirectX, OpenGL, etc. but i want to know what they are used for and what they do. Do you HAVE to have them to make a computer/game system function properly?
i also know that using shaders is a technique to change the lighting of something or some place. but i want to know why its called a VERTEX shader and not just a shader. is it because nothing is ever applied to the surface of a polygon and just always to one of its sides (Vertex)? Whats a pixel shader? and i know a unifed shader is a type of shader with pixel and vertex shaders combined.
Ok. i know what Hyper-threading is, but would you tell me what Threading is?
PLEEZ dont give me a link of where to visit for my questions, just straight-up tell me wouldja? (in english)
Thx in advance
Link Farming on Furry Fandom[edit]
Hello there,
I appreciate your contributions and work on this page, but I also have to say that I don't understand your link removal at times. True, "my furry forum" is probably not something you want in a list of representative links. However, I do believe that at least the big sites out there, VCL, Furnation, FA, SA, YS as well as the rapidly-growing [ WikiFur | http://furry.wikicities.com/wiki/WikiFur_Central ] are worth mentioning. These sites are representative for what the furry fandom is, and WikiFur is an excellent furry information resource in Wiki-Form.
I understand your effort to keep the number of links at a minimum, but do not understand your criteria of "choosing" who is allowed or not. Right now it's "First come, first serve", with any other site, no matter how big it is, being denied because "It's not a link farm".
External links should usually be only used for sites that have more general information about a topic, or to link to any kind of "official" site, which the fandom of course doesn't have. You're right, I try to maintain the number of external links as low as possible, and I do have a bit of a problem deciding what to include and what not. For example I think we shouldn't link to any forums, because they tend to attract more people adding their own forums, etc. I don't oppose linking to VCL or Furnation, but I'd oppose linking to smaller furry homepages or art archives. Maybe this should be discussed on the Furry Fandom talk page to get more opinions on this. --Conti| 15:25, 24 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I noticed that you uploaded this image, with the note "used by permission"? When you say "used by permission", permission from whom, to do what, exactly? Ideally, we'd like permission to use it under the terms of the GFDL. -- The Anome 12:00, 4 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I copied that note from the webpage I got the image from. I first uploaded the image just to show it on my user page, so I used the copyright notice for a "NON-BDSM page" ("If you are using just the Emblem on a NON-BDSM page, using the Emblem to identify yourself secretly to any BDSMer who happens to drop by, just use this notice:"), which is "Copyright 1995 by Quagmyr@aol.com. Used by permission". Looking at the page, I don't think it can be used with the GFDL, but I'm not an expert. The image is now used on articles as well, and I'm not that sure anymore under which license (or free use or whatever) to put the image. The webpage says "It is freely available for all educational and non-commercial use within the BDSM community without charge", not saying anything about the use of it outside the BDSM community. --Conti| 15:51, 4 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
