Request for article re-assessment

Hi there! I've been spending some time working on Toastmasters International, and I think it's really grown since it was originally assessed. You can see for yourself -- the originally assessed version is quite different from the current article. There's still a lot of room for improvement (and it would help if there were more external sources available online) but if only to give a feeling of validation to myself and the others who have edited the article for the past five and a half months I'd like someone to re-assess the article and perhaps comment on various ways I can make it better. Thanks! --coldacid (talk|contrib) 09:46, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

A shout out and thanks to Patrick Flaherty for reassessing the article. --coldacid (talk|contrib) 16:07, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

ASEAN needs cites

ASEAN was listed as a Good Article in March of 2007.

However, currently two sections of the article have been tagged "This section does not cite any references or sources" since May 2008, and another section since September 2008.

We should cite or remove this material. If we don't, we should de-list this article from status as a Good Article. -- 201.37.230.43 (talk) 16:52, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

The article Seva Foundation has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Not Notable. See ‪Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies)‬

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Help with Malaysian Palm Oil Board article

Hello. I am looking for editors to review a draft for the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) article. The MPOB is a well established government agency in Malaysia responsible for overseeing the palm oil industry, but the current article about it is very short and needs references. I prepared this draft on behalf of the Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) which is a related organization, so I don't think it is appropriate for me to make the edits myself. I have left a request on the article's talk page that provides a little more information, and the draft is here: MPOB draft

Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks in advance. YellowOwl (talk) 23:55, 20 March 2013 (UTC)

My request has now been answered and an editor has reviewed the draft. YellowOwl (talk) 15:24, 22 March 2013 (UTC)

Assistance updating Center for Copyright Information article

Hello, I've recently been working on behalf of the Center for Copyright Information (CCI) to improve their article here on Wikipedia. I've posted a request over on Talk:CCI detailing the changes I've made, and the complete draft of my proposed changes to my userspace here.

Given my paid COI in this matter, I'm hoping that some volunteer editors from WikiProject:Organizations would be willing to take a look and, if things look okay, move the article over into the mainspace. I've disabled categories in the draft on my userspace, so the article does get moved over, they'll need to be re-enabled.

If you have any questions or feedback, please let me know, either here, on Talk:CCI, or my Talk page. Cheers! ChrisPond (Talk · COI) 14:39, 26 April 2013 (UTC)

Hello again, After originally posting here, I've been working with a few volunteer editors, especially User:Mjb, to improve the draft I proposed before it is ready to move into the mainspace. After some research and writing that took me several weeks, I believe that I've addressed all of mjb's feedback, but they've indicated that they're currently busy, and not able to review my changes at the moment. I'm thus reaching out here again, in the hope that someone might be able to take a look at the discussion at Talk:CCI, along with the current draft in my userspace and, if things all look okay, go ahead and move the draft over. Thanks! ChrisPond (Talk · COI) 15:45, 15 July 2013 (UTC)

New draft for The Climate Reality Project

Hi there, I'm looking for editors to review a draft I've written for the Climate Reality Project. Since this WikiProject is listed on the article's Talk page, I'm hoping there are some editors here who'd be interested in helping me update and improve the article. I've written the new draft on behalf of, and with input from, the communications team at The Climate Reality Project and for that reason will not make any edits to the article myself.

There are three issues I'm hoping to address with my rewritten draft. First, the article currently uses mostly primary sources to support information and needs some restructuring and additional information to meet Wikipedia's standards. Second, The Climate Reality Project was formed from the joining of two predecessor organizations, The Climate Project and the Alliance for Climate Protection. I've suggested summarizing these articles and merging them in with the article about the current organization for simplicity. Third, I'd like to suggest renaming this article The Climate Reality Project, instead of Climate Reality Project as it is now, because "The" is part of the organization's name.

I've explained these issues in more detail on the Talk page and have linked to my draft from there. If you think this is something you can help with I'd really appreciate your help here. Thanks, 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 17:17, 17 September 2013 (UTC)

Non-profit organizations

Charities / Non-profit organizations /Non-governmental organizations / etc.

Here's an idea: As a first step, Category:Charities could be renamed to Category:Charitable organizations to avoid the UK legal implications. Sound good? --Eliyak T·C 21:46, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

Editing/Review Request?

I was wondering if anyone from the project would be willing to review the article for the Alabama Cooperative Extension System. While, as a whole, I think it may be a good article, it was almost entirely written by the PR person for ACES, so it has some neutrality issues and often reads like promo material. While both the PR person and an editor from the Alabama project have done a little work from it, I think a more neutral party would also help and I'm not versed enough in organization article formats to feel comfortable doing major editing myself. WikiProject Organizations: Articles of unclear notability

Hello,

there are currently 28 articles in the scope of this project which are tagged with notability concerns. I have listed them here. (Note: this listing is based on a database snapshot of 12 March 2008 and may be slightly outdated.)

I would encourage members of this project to have a look at these articles, and see whether independent sources can be added, whether the articles can be merged into an article of larger scope, or possibly be deleted. Any help in cleaning up this backlog is appreciated. For further information, see Wikipedia:WikiProject Notability.

If you have any questions, please leave a message on the Notability project page or on my personal talk page. (I'm not watching this page however.) Thanks! --B. Wolterding (talk) 16:00, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme

As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.

  • The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
  • The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
  • A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.

Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! UK charities - new external link templates

Hallo. I've just created two new templates, {{UK charity}} and {{Scottish charity}}. (Yes, I know the former is inaccurately named as it covers England and Wales: if I can work out the wiki technicalities I'll combine them into a single template at that name.) If you are creating or editing an article about a registered charity in England, Scotland or Wales, you might like to include this in the External Links - it leads to the record at the Charity Commission or Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator, which seems to me to be a valuable asset to the article, as evidence of its genuineness and a link to its accounts etc. They're similar to the templates for links to IMDB.

I've added them to all the "A"s under Category:Charities based in the United Kingdom, and will carry on extending their use to other pages eg Category:Charities based in England etc), gradually. AWB can't help much to semi-automate the process, as the registration number may or may not be included in the article already, sometimes isn't even visible on the organisation's own page (The Art Fund), and in one case so far I can find no trace at the Charity commission site (AfPP) so doubt whether it's a charity, and in another (Association of Colleges) so far have had to amend the article because it's an associated trust, not the named organisation, which is a charity. Interesting work!

If anyone can find me a similar online list for Northern Ireland charities, I'd be delighted - please let me know. PamD (talk) 11:28, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for Organizations

Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of English Wikipedia articles due to be released on DVD, and available for free download, later this year. The Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team has made an automated selection of articles for Version 0.7.

We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations.

A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. A team of copyeditors has agreed to help with copyediting requests, although you should try to fix simple issues on your own if possible.

We would also appreciate your help in identifying the version of each article that you think we should use, to help avoid vandalism or POV issues. These versions can be recorded at this project's subpage of User:SelectionBot/0.7. We are planning to release the selection for the holiday season, so we ask you to select the revisions before October 20. At that time, we will use an automatic process to identify which version of each article to release, if no version has been manually selected. Thanks! Request for small org guidance

Could two or three WikiProjectians comment on this please? I am concerned that an article on a smallish org is not getting proper treatment due to the fact that the majority of recent contributors to article and talk (5 or 6 of them) are org members, including myself. The question is: given a 600-member org which is the oldest of its kind and has a 1200-issue journal and dozens of New York Times writeups, mostly in the 1920s and '30s, where should the line be drawn between "all policy-compliant content is welcome" and "arguably policy-compliant content, also considered cruftiferous by a couple of the org's members, is unwelcome"? For instance, how should I treat the concepts of lists of notable members, lists of notable and otherwise nonnotable officers, and otherwise reliable content published by loosely connected parties? I am interested in all ideas anyone has based on your dealings with similar situations; please comment here. Thanks in advance! JJB 04:03, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

Organization events

I'm guessing that since the charitable organizations are within the scope of this WikiProject, the fund-raising events that they sponsor would be as well - is that correct? For these events, I can't seem to locate an infobox for charitable organization events. Does one exist which I'm overlooking; or has the project discussed these before and decided that they are not needed?

I can create one, not a problem; but I didn't want to run into issues with the project, so wanted to check before I created one. --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 23:57, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

Ladies Aid

(cross-posted to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Gender Studies/Feminism Task Force)

We seem to have nothing at all about Ladies Aid or Ladies Aid Societies. I can find plenty online about individual Ladies Aid organizations, but almost nothing about such organizations in general: e.g. when did they first originate (some time in the first half of the 19th century, I believe), what was the sequence and timing of their spread geographically and among various religious denominations (and when were the first secular Ladies Aid societies formed), what roles did they fulfill at what periods (charity work in general, of course, but when did they first become involved in nursing work, for example), what would be the equivalent term for Ladies Aid in other languages where such organizations exist?

Not really my area, but a surprising lacuna. I suspect someone else will have a better idea than I will of where to start researching this. - Jmabel | Talk 06:46, 23 September 2009 (UTC)

Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

We would like to ask you to review the Organizations articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.

We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

For the Wikipedia 1.0 editorial team, SelectionBot 23:26, 19 September 2010 (UTC)

Checking in to request feedback on main article

Fellow project members, I have joined the project because of my expertise in the area of organizational behavior, and to get feedback on the recent changes I have made to the Wikipedia article on organizations. Please add feedback on the talk page over there, or jump in and help me out with bringing that article up to higher quality! Ms. Citizen (talk) 21:03, 29 September 2010 (UTC)

International Parliament for Safety and Peace

There are often edit wars around the entry of the International Parliament for Safety and Peace. As a result it is currently semi-protected. Would it be possible for a member of this project to assess the importance of the article for WikiProject Organizations? Also is the "start" status still the correct status? Are there any other parameters that need to be set? Thank you for any assistance on the top of Talk:International Parliament for Safety and Peace or the entry itself! gidonb (talk) 16:57, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

I think a brief, neutral, and balanced discussion would be better. Removing any mention at all, despite extensive coverage in reliable sources, is no way to write a good article. However, you could shop around some more forums if you don't like the response you get here. bobrayner (talk) 21:06, 19 May 2011 (UTC)

Safe Planet

I think that this recently-created article falls within the scope of this wiki-project.

On the talk page, a user has raised concerns that it is overly dependent on primary sources; I think that is true. So, if anyone can help improve it, trim out anything inappropriate, etc. - please do. Best,  Chzz  ►  03:28, 2 June 2011 (UTC)

Re-write of Seacology

I know this project is only semi-active, but if anyone with experience writing about organizations could look over the newly re-written Seacology article, I would appreciate it. This is the first time I have written about an organization, so writing an entire article without academic sources was quite new to me. I also want to make sure the article sounds balanced and neutral. For now, I'm assessing its importance as "Mid" because of its global scope, but feel free to adjust that as necessary. – VisionHolder « talk » 12:59, 4 August 2011 (UTC)

Summit Series Conference / Summit Series (conference)

About a week ago, I posted a request regarding the U.S. non-profit Summit Series—currently at Summit Series Conference—on the article's Talk page, suggesting it be moved to Summit Series (conference) and updated with a carefully researched new draft of my own writing. I also left a note with the last editor to take serious interest in the article, but this editor has been mostly offline, and hasn't responded.

Under other circumstances I would have long moved it into place, but the case is that my work here is on behalf of, and in collaboration with, Summit Series, so I am mindful of my potential COI. If anyone here would be willing to review the draft and weigh in, perhaps even follow through with the suggested changes, I'd be very appreciative. It's been awhile since I first proposed it, so after a few more days if there is no comment still, I might just go ahead and move it, assuming WP:SILENCE. Thanks for your consideration, WWB Too (talk) 16:11, 16 December 2011 (UTC)

For anyone finding this later, never mind! An uninvolved editor has answered my invitation to review and move the article. WWB Too (talk) 20:49, 16 December 2011 (UTC)

Edits to the IMF Page

After reading through the current International Monetary Fund, I decided that the page portrays the IMF too narrowly and omits many of the main controversies. Not all of the perspectives on the IMF are included or even touched upon. The IMF is a very large, well-known, and powerful international organization. Understanding the IMF’s voting power and expanding information on the leadership election process is crucial for developing awareness and education about this organization. Let me know your thoughts! Campaign To End Fistula

I plan on adding a section on the Obstetric fistula page regarding organizations that work on the issue. The Campaign to End Fistula is launched by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in 2003 to improve maternal health, which is one of the MDGs, by reducing the number of women affected by obstetric fistula. Since it is a very big campaign that works with many partner organizations and initiatives, I think it will make the Obstetric fistula page more comprehensive and to bring into attention that this disease is indeed a disease of poverty that requires the attention and efforts of trans-national organizations. Some sources that I plan to draw from are the UN Report on Fistula 2012, a report on the effectiveness of UNFPA's maternal health programs from the International Journal of Gynecology, and a report on the difficulties of getting people treated for fistula from the Lancet (see citations below).
Please let me know what suggestions you might have for my plan that would make a meaningful contribution to Wikipedia and the WikiProject group on Organizations. --Kayceeho (talk) 00:21, 4 October 2012 (UTC)

Institute for Cultural Diplomacy

I'd appreciate it if some editors with a little more experience with articles on organizations could take a look at the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy article. The article is long and pretty established but I spent some time looking through the history and am afraid that there are problems with primary sources, conflict of interest, reading like an advert. On the other hand, the page is long and well written and I don't know that anything there is incorrect. I've written up my concerns on the talk page. I'd really appreciate someone else taking a look. —mako 01:23, 6 April 2012 (UTC)

Assessment guide – importance

The current guide for assessing articles at Wikipedia:WikiProject Organizations/Assessment#Importance scale is very generic and not at all conducive to assist users assessing the importance of organizations. __meco (talk) 17:58, 25 July 2010 (UTC)

I have added another column to the assessment table discussing topics and organizations appropriate for each Importance level. Examples are generally drawn from current Importance levels.

Please feel free to improve. I believe a world-wide, continental or regional, and national approach is appropriate for geographical relevance. I feel less confident about the topical discussions.

Could someone review current Top and High-level ratings; some articles appear to need a level change based on this revised Importance guidance.

Hi, I've created and populated a category for the presidents of the Aristotelian Society, referring to the links in the list on that page as a 'source'. The list itself isn't sourced (but the Soc. website is in 'External Links', and /is/ the obvious source) and a lot of the articles are stubs that don't mention the Society, or don't source the statement that they were a president. This is bad. 8(

The list probably shouldn't be 'in the article', but however it is that peeps fix crazy long lists. :)

For consistency, style, etc.. every 'first statement' of a person's Presidency of the Society, in all of the articles, should be templated and cited to a Wayback Machine archived version of the Society's list, as a primary source for who was a president and when. As a fact known to a corporate author, it's a primary source, but it's the 'best' source in the context of every one of those articles. Every other mention of those people as an President anywhere, if they could be traced perfectly, would lead to the Society.

Ideal would be that the 'standard' inline citation text used a template, and had 'hidden' text that referred any future editor who edited there to some Talk page convo that said "Duh! This is an acceptable primary source! Here's why!"

Also, the whole series needs succession boxes.

Please note that doing all this is going to touch over 80 articles, including a lot of good ones like Bertram Russell.

I'm seeking other interested editors to work on this. I'm going to create the 'job' for myself of hounding this 'project' around through the world of Talk pages, but this seemed the 'topical' right place for the whole thing.

I'm going to be poking around other Projects (Biog, Philosophy) to draw more editors to work on bits and pieces of this. Revent (talk) 02:58, 1 May 2013 (UTC)

  • Thanks for telling us! To be honest, I think this is overcategorization. For positions within societies and so forth, we would typically just create a list, and link to the people who are presidents. It would be very, very rare for a position within an organization to be "defining". --Lquilter (talk) 13:17, 1 May 2013 (UTC)
You mean like there are category:Presidents of the Royal Society or category:Presidents of the Linnean Society of London or, Category:Presidents of the Geological Society of London or Category:Presidents of the Royal Geographical Society... oh hang on... this might be a good idea after all ;)
Also, to address the first point, there are other sources on the biographies that contain this information too (specific biographies, Oxford DNB, Obituaries, Who's Who, etc). Barney the barney barney (talk) 19:10, 1 May 2013 (UTC)
Right, but a LOT of them are stubs with text directly included from DNB, with no other sources, and it appears from a quick glance to be the only notable thing about the older ones. When someone (eventually) rewrites them, it will be helpful to already have a source for their presidency, especially with dates and such as a lot of the DNB entries omit that. The 'Who's Who', and the newer ONDB, are behind a paywall.
TBH, I made the Cat as at least a first step toward cleanup of the Society article. If you look at it, the list is something like four times longer than the text, has over 80 members with WP articles, and the only real possible other cat from the stubs is usually "British Philosopher".
If there is a better way to do it, I'm all ears. I've never worked on fixing an article overwhelmed by a list. Revent (talk) 19:25, 1 May 2013 (UTC)

President of .... cats

Just glanced at it. There is a cat "Presidents of learned societies" with 22 subcats, that I just added the AS cat to. It also should have list articles directly in it, from the content. Take a look at Presidents_of_the_American_Chemical_Society, which with 9 members has a list article, category, template, etc. Revent (talk) 19:42, 1 May 2013 (UTC)

Popular pages tool update

As of January, the popular pages tool has moved from the Toolserver to Wikimedia Tool Labs. The code has changed significantly from the Toolserver version, but users should notice few differences. Please take a moment to look over your project's list for any anomalies, such as pages that you expect to see that are missing or pages that seem to have more views than expected. Note that unlike other tools, this tool aggregates all views from redirects, which means it will typically have higher numbers. (For January 2014 specifically, 35 hours of data is missing from the WMF data, which was approximated from other dates. For most articles, this should yield a more accurate number. However, a few articles, like ones featured on the Main Page, may be off).

Web tools, to replace the ones at tools:~alexz/pop, will become available over the next few weeks at toollabs:popularpages. All of the historical data (back to July 2009 for some projects) has been copied over. The tool to view historical data is currently partially available (assessment data and a few projects may not be available at the moment). The tool to add new projects to the bot's list is also available now (editing the configuration of current projects coming soon). Unlike the previous tool, all changes will be effective immediately. OAuth is used to authenticate users, allowing only regular users to make changes to prevent abuse. A visible history of configuration additions and changes is coming soon. Once tools become fully available, their toolserver versions will redirect to Labs.

If you have any questions, want to report any bugs, or there are any features you would like to see that aren't currently available on the Toolserver tools, see the updated FAQ or contact me on my talk page. Mr.Z-bot (talk) (for Mr.Z-man) 05:20, 23 February 2014 (UTC)

Leaflet For Wikiproject Organizations At Wikimania 2014

Hi all,

My name is Adi Khajuria and I am helping out with Wikimania 2014 in London.

One of our initiatives is to create leaflets to increase the discoverability of various wikimedia projects, and showcase the breadth of activity within wikimedia. Any kind of project can have a physical paper leaflet designed - for free - as a tool to help recruit new contributors. These leaflets will be printed at Wikimania 2014, and the designs can be re-used in the future at other events and locations.

This is particularly aimed at highlighting less discoverable but successful projects, e.g:

• Active Wikiprojects: Wikiproject Medicine, WikiProject Video Games, Wikiproject Film

• Tech projects/Tools, which may be looking for either users or developers.

• Less known major projects: Wikinews, Wikidata, Wikivoyage, etc.

• Wiki Loves Parliaments, Wiki Loves Monuments, Wiki Loves ____

• Wikimedia thematic organisations, Wikiwomen’s Collaborative, The Signpost

For more information or to sign up for one for your project, go to:

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! WikiProject X is live!

Hello everyone!

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.

Merge this WikiProject with Wikipedia:WikiProject Companies

I was looking for some guidance on notability of non-profit organizations and came across this WikiProject. It seems activity on this project is very limited and many ends are left loose (for example Wikipedia:WikiProject Organizations/Categorization). Why not merge with Wikipedia:WikiProject Companies? This is an update to the request for comment and a request for wider participation. The RfC question asks for community feedback on a one-sentence addition to the funding section of a politically active non-profit organization. The main source is a pair of reports in The Washington Post, supported by FactCheck.org and the National Journal. The proposed content summarizes a key finding of investigative journalism. The discussion of the RfC centers on the due weight of investigative journalism into the sources of funding of not-for-profit organizations that are not legally required to disclose their funders. Attention from uninvolved editors with some experience with articles on non-profit organizations is respectfully requested. Generous excerpts from the sources are provided in the statement of the RfC question for your convenience. Please help with this request for comment. Thank you in advance for your time and attention. This request for comment will most likely close Thursday 6 August 2015. This is an update and a request for wider participation. New external link template for US nonprofits

A new external link template, Template:ProPublicaNonprofitExplorer, may be used to generate an external link, from the "External links" section of a Wikipedia article on a United States tax-exempt organization, to the Internal Revenue Service Form 990s ("Return of Organization Exempt from Income Tax"), as archived in the Nonprofit Explorer project of ProPublica. In most cases, the template may simply be invoked with the Employer Identification Number of the organization. For example, on page American National Red Cross

Request re: Smile Train

Hi, I'm Shari and I'm here on behalf of my employer, Smile Train. I've proposed some updates for the Smile Train article, which are outlined at Talk:Smile Train.

I've added two specific requests for the "Partnerships and supporters" and "Recognition" sections. The first request is to add details of a major supporter and a recent partnership not currently included. The second request is to add information about a documentary Smile Train was involved with and the National Training Simulation Association's recognition of the organization's Virtual Surgery Simulator.

I know that editing articles directly is strongly discouraged, given my disclosed COI. Is there someone who is able to respond to these two requests? Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks! -SM at Smile Train (talk) 20:08, 7 March 2016 (UTC)

Organization v. Organisations

Since February, 2007 we have had a discussion (located here: I.), which did not quite end as it just ceased without verification that the ending statement were to be held true or not. That statement by [ Lquilter ] read:

"For the purposes of this WikiProject and all related articles, and categories, we will use the organization standard. Also, all categories shall be lower-case organization."

American spelling accepts only -ize endings in most cases, such as organize, recognize, and realize. British usage accepts both -ize and the more French-looking -ise (organise, recognise, realise). However, the -ize spelling is now rarely used in the UK in the mass media and newspapers, and is hence often incorrectly regarded as an Americanism,[1] despite being preferred by some authoritative British sources, including Fowler's Modern English Usage and the Oxford English Dictionary, which until recently did not list the -ise form of many individual words, even as an alternative. Indeed, it firmly deprecates this usage, stating, "The suffix, whatever the element to which it is added, is in its origin the Greek... (or) Latin -izare; and, as the pronunciation is also with z, there is no reason why in English the special French spelling in -iser should be followed, in opposition to that which is at once etymological and phonetic."[2]

"Worldwide, -ize endings prevail in scientific writing and are commonly used by many international organizations."

Well if it were to in be effect, it emphatically was not as shown in [Category:Organizations by country], where there is about a 60-40 split that favors the -sa. This is extremely problematic as its derivatives are also mismatched. A single country or culture could have categories of both. It is extremely difficult to create new categories without there being a decisive factor involved, and/or a rubric if you will in place to avoid this from continuing to happen.

In terms of categorization, if it is generic such as [Category:Organizations based in Haiti]; it should be spelled pertaining to what the census had agreed upon, be it "organization" or "organisation." However, if the category is not a generic one and is named after an article in which the establishment spells it one of those ways, whichever way it chooses should be enforced such as "The Such-and-Such Organisation;" if there was an existing category pertaining to exactly that.

Let this be the lasting debate, to trump all others if you will. This is a mess, and it needs some serious attention and reform that may inevitably lead to massive category moves and redirects but all for the sake of WP:CONSISTENCY. Thanks to all whom it concern. Savvyjack23 (talk) 19:18, 6 April 2016 (UTC)

I am fully in support of a single, consistent solution. I am an American and so I naturally favor (or favour) the -ize spelling, but for the sake of consistency I have created my fair share of -ise categories in the Brazil category tree. Brazilians tend towards American spelling, but there is no official standard in the country that I am aware of. Some early Wikipedia editor created the first category (prior to 2006) and everything has followed suit since then. If it were agreed upon here, I would request that the Brazilian categories be renamed, but in the meanwhile I will continue to follow the pattern that was already established. giso6150 (talk) 23:12, 6 April 2016 (UTC)

Requests for Smile Train article

Hello, Shari here again with another request to update the article about my employer, Smile Train. I've proposed some updates at Talk:Smile Train.

The first request is about co-founder Brian Mullaney's departure from the organization in 2010. The second request proposes a slightly trimmed and less contentious re-wording of the relationship between Smile Train and Operation Smile, and puts the content in chronological order.

I know that editing articles directly is discouraged, given my conflict of interest. Is there someone who is willing to respond to these two requests? Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for your consideration! SM at Smile Train (talk) 15:52, 18 April 2016 (UTC)

Hi, Shari here: I am still looking for help with this request. The first request has been completed but the second request and an additional request to remove a “citation needed” tag and to add a celebrity supporter are still outstanding. Is anyone available to help? Thanks for any assistance in advance. 19:32, 31 May 2016 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by SM at Smile Train (talkcontribs)

Auto-assessment of article classes

Following a recent discussion at WP:VPR, there is consensus for an opt-in bot task that automatically assesses the class of articles based on classes listed for other project templates on the same page. In other words, if WikiProject A has evaluated an article to be C-class and WikiProject B hasn't evaluated the article at all, such a bot task would automatically evaluate the article as C-class for WikiProject B.

If you think auto-assessment might benefit this project, consider discussing it with other members here. For more information or to request an auto-assessment run, please visit User:BU RoBOT/autoassess. This is a one-time message to alert projects with over 1,000 unassessed articles to this possibility. ~ RobTalk 01:19, 4 June 2016 (UTC)

Help with Autism Speaks

Hi there! I'm looking for any editors who would be willing to review some new material to add to the Autism Speaks article. Since I'm working on behalf of the two organization founders, Bob and Suzanne Wright, I won't make any edits myself and have instead made a request on the Talk page to update the Awareness section of the article.

As it stands, the current page is missing some details about the level of involvement Suzanne has had in the organization, particularly its awareness efforts. Popular pages report

We – Community Tech – are happy to announce that the Popular pages bot is back up-and-running (after a one year hiatus)! You're receiving this message because your WikiProject or task force is signed up to receive the popular pages report. Every month, Community Tech bot will post at Wikipedia:WikiProject Organizations/Archive 4/Popular pages with a list of the most-viewed pages over the previous month that are within the scope of WikiProject Organizations.

We've made some enhancements to the original report. Here's what's new:

  • The pageview data includes both desktop and mobile data.
  • The report will include a link to the pageviews tool for each article, to dig deeper into any surprises or anomalies.
  • The report will include the total pageviews for the entire project (including redirects).

We're grateful to Mr.Z-man for his original Mr.Z-bot, and we wish his bot a happy robot retirement. Just as before, we hope the popular pages reports will aid you in understanding the reach of WikiProject Organizations, and what articles may be deserving of more attention. If you have any questions or concerns please contact us at m:User talk:Community Tech bot.

Another project I'm a part of, Wikipedia:WikiProject_Medicine, has a page for requested articles. I cannot make the article myself because there would be a conflict of interest (I am an officer of the aforementioned organisation,) but I wanted to know both if it is okay for me to request such an article provided that I do not edit it (perhaps barring grammatical errors, unless that is also disallowed) and if there are other requests for organisation articles which I may be able to fulfil, due to a lack of conflict of interest. --a u t a c o i d (stalk) 05:06, 19 August 2017 (UTC)

Criticism at International Justice Mission

Hi, I'm Sterling, of International Justice Mission. I've been part of a discussion on the how to best handle the article's Criticism section. Back in May, I posted a request for comment, and the consensus was for details from Criticism to be incorporated throughout the article. I then posted this edit request to continue to conversation. Advice from participants of WikiProject Organizations is greatly appreciated. Best, SE at Int'l Justice Mission (talk) 14:28, 23 August 2017 (UTC)

I don't believe this has any place on the organization page as it implies it is in someway connected to the organization. see this edit for example. Disambiguation links on pages tagged by this wikiproject

Wikipedia has many thousands of wikilinks which point to disambiguation pages. It would be useful to readers if these links directed them to the specific pages of interest, rather than making them search through a list. Members of WikiProject Disambiguation have been working on this and the total number is now below 20,000 for the first time. Some of these links require specialist knowledge of the topics concerned and therefore it would be great if you could help in your area of expertise.

WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject

The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.

Portals are being redesigned.

The new design features are being applied to existing portals.

At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.

The discussion about this can be found here.

Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.

Background

On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.

There's an article in the current edition of the Signpost interviewing project members about the RfC and the Portals WikiProject.

Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.

So far, 84 editors have joined.

If you would like to keep abreast of what is happening with portals, see the newsletter archive.

If you have any questions about what is happening with portals or the Portals WikiProject, please post them on the WikiProject's talk page.

Thank you.    — The Transhumanist   11:00, 31 May 2018 (UTC)

Saylor Academy

Greetings! I am seeking editors to review a new draft of Saylor Academy in my user space and at Talk:Saylor_Academy#New_draft_available. Editors at this WikiProject might be interested because Saylor Academy is a non-profit organization offering free and open online courses. I will not be making edits to the article as a result of my conflict of interest. Would someone with experience editing articles on non-profit organizations be able to review this request?

Seeking Help for Consumer Bankers Association article

Hello, Wikipedia! I work for Consumer Bankers Association (CBA), and I'd like to suggest some improvements for the CBA article. I've posted a request on the article's talk page, but there hasn't been any movement yet.

The current article is very short and has not been updated since 2008. I've suggested a draft to add more content to the existing sections and build off of those as sourcing allows. Please take a look at my proposed draft here - User:CBA NS/Consumer Bankers Association. I know about conflict of interest rules, and have done my best to follow them.

Are there any WikiProject Organizations editors who can take a look at the draft and copy over content or provide any feedback? Thank you! CBA NS (talk) 22:20, 18 December 2018 (UTC)

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool

Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.

We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)

Help creating charity page (COI)?

Hi. The short version: 1 - Can someone help me make a page? 2 - Can someone help me edit the material for the page to be compliant with Wikipedia's policies?
The charity I work for has asked me to create a Wikipedia page for the organisation. I'm aware of Wikipedia's policies around conflicts of interest so my current plan is to submit the page as an Article for Creation once I am able to create a draft (about 08.00 GMT Sat 07/12, assuming I get ten edits under my belt before then). I can see there are over 3,600 articles currently awaiting review (estimated wait five months). If I had someone from this WikiProject helping me would that allow me to get around the COI/AfC process? If so, would anyone be willing to help?
I'm also well aware of Wikipedia's policy on pages having a neutral point of view and the draft that I have been sent to upload is going to require significant work in this area. Removing the mission statement is easy enough but it's clearly been written from a promotional standpoint, e.g. it talks about our "very strong" processes without substantiating that superlative. Is there anyone who would be willing to help me wrangle what I've got into something useable?
And if I'm going about this entirely the wrong way any help and advice would be appreciated!
Thanks, and take care. --Tori C H (talk) 09:05, 3 December 2019 (UTC)

1. The organisation covers the Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Lincolnshire areas, although one project will work with any client who is able to travel to Nottingham city centre. I believe it could be classed as a nationally well-known local organisation on the basis of the evidence for point 2.
2. The organisation has won national awards including Third Sector Charity of the Year 2019 and The Guardian Public Service Leadership Excellence Award (SLF Chair, Lynn Saunders), as well as commendations in the Howard League Community Awards 2019 (The Aurora Project) and 2018. The SLF has presented posters at the ATSA Conference 2018 and 2019, and hosts an annual Prevention conference through NTU SOCAMRU (Sexual Offences, Crime and Misconduct Research Unit) with speakers from across the UK.
If it doesn't meet the requirements would adding a section for SLF/SOCAMRU on the NTU page and/or the HMP Whatton page be more appropriate? It's a joint venture between the two organisations.
Thanks, and take care. --Tori C H (talk) 10:02, 11 December 2019 (UTC)
  • @Tori C H: I would personally consider it to meet WP:NGO; perhaps it may be a good idea to find similar organisations with existing articles to build consensus before moving this to the mainspace. New bot to remove completed infobox requests

Hello! I have recently created a bot to remove completed infobox requests and am sending this message to WikiProject Organizations since the project currently has a backlogged infobox request category. Details about the task can be found at Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/PearBOT 2, but in short it removes all infobox requests from articles with an infobox, once a week. To sign up, reply with {{ping|Trialpears}} and tell me if any special considerations are required for the Wikiproject. For example: if only a specific infobox should be detected, such as {{infobox journal}} for WikiProject Academic Journals; or if an irregularly named infobox such as {{starbox begin}} should be detected. Feel free to ask if you have any questions!

National Association of Scholars - Your thoughts requested on Talk page

I created a section on Talk:National Association of Scholars titled, NPOV January 2020. Would you share your thoughts on the article there? (Or edit the article to improve it.) ¶ I read a Commentary in the Wall Street Journal Opinion section today that included this sentence: "Wikipedia describes us as a 'conservative' organization." That mention prompted me to look at the article. I did not know about the National Association of Scholars before today. I reviewed other Wikipedia articles about nonprofit (or trade union) educational organizations and none of them used an adjective denoting a political ideology in the article's short description or in the lede (introductory paragraph). Calling the National Association of Scholars a "conservative" organization struck me as neither consistent nor neutral. What do you think? (Please discuss at Talk:National Association of Scholars#NPOV January 2020—not here—so we're all on the same page.) Thanks! ¶ Citation: Peter W. Would some members from this WikiProject mind taking a look at Principles for Digital Development? There might be some COI editing involved based upon User talk: Diannaa#Principles for Digital Development, but that's something that can usually be sorted out without too much difficulty. I'm not seeing (at least at the moment) how this meets WP:GNG or even WP:NORG since it appears to be mainly sourced to the organization's website, even though the article might not specifically be about the organization per se. Was wondering is some members of this WikiProject would mind taking a look at this article? I came across it via WP:THQ#posting a picture. There quite a bit of formatting cleanup that’s probably needed, but it’s the overall promotional tone and a bit iffy WP:NORG that might need a looking at by multiple errors. There may have been some WP:COI/WP:UPE editing over the years, including the most recent burst, but that can be cleaned up or trimmed out if the organization is notable. — Marchjuly (talk) 22:07, 13 June 2020 (UTC)

"Tech nonprofits" categorization issues

I just noticed that Category:Linux organizations is not connected in any way to the Category:Nonprofit organizations tree. This should be rectified. There are likely other categorical orphans of this sort.

This got me to thinking again about the lack of a Category:Technology nonprofits. There are a lot of groups to put in there, including entire subcategories of them (some of which do not exist as categories yet) like open-source and free-software organizations, technology and civil liberties organizations, technology standards organizations, communications infrastructure access organizations, technology-in-education organizations, etc., etc.

I'm not going to just leap into creating a big new category tree; it's worth discussing and planning (and I'm not a regular participant in this project anyway).  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  08:45, 18 November 2020 (UTC)

User script to detect unreliable sources

I have (with the help of others) made a small user script to detect and highlight various links to unreliable sources and predatory journals. Some of you may already be familiar with it, given it is currently the 39th most imported script on Wikipedia. The idea is that it takes something like

  • John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14. (John Smith "[https://www.deprecated.com/article Article of things]" ''Deprecated.com''. Accessed 2020-02-14.)

and turns it into something like

It will work on a variety of links, including those from {{cite web}}, {{cite journal}} and {{doi}}.

The script is mostly based on WP:RSPSOURCES, WP:NPPSG and WP:CITEWATCH and a good dose of common sense. I'm always expanding coverage and tweaking the script's logic, so general feedback and suggestions to expand coverage to other unreliable sources are always welcomed.

Do note that this is not a script to be mindlessly used, and several caveats apply. Details and instructions are available at User:Headbomb/unreliable. Questions, comments and requests can be made at User talk:Headbomb/unreliable.

Gates MRI request

Hi editors, I'm Lee. I work for the Bill & Melinda Gates Medical Research Institute and I was hoping to make some updates to the article that I think will help it be more complete and read a bit better. Because of my conflict of interest, I won't make any edits myself. I'd really appreciate it if someone here was willing to take a look! LBGatesMRI (talk) 21:56, 5 December 2022 (UTC)

Issue One request

Hi there, WikiProject Organizations members. I have posted a request to the Issue One Talk page that outlines a proposed update to the article's History section. I suggest retitling the section as "Formation" and simplifying some of the details about the Issue One predecessor organizations.

I have a conflict of interest as I work at Issue One, so my hope is that I can get an experienced editor to review what I've put together and then implement the changes if they seem like improvements. Any help or feedback you can provide would be appreciated! AR at Issue One (talk) 14:15, 8 December 2022 (UTC)

Posting here one more time in order to bump this post. I've yet to receive any responses to my Talk page request about the History section. Again, hoping an experienced editor can provide some feedback or at least point me in the right direction for further assistance. Thank you. AR at Issue One (talk) 21:05, 20 December 2022 (UTC)
Posting here as an update — I've now posted an additional request for updates to the Organization section on the Issue One Talk page The request for updates to the History section remains outstanding. I'm hopeful that an experienced editor can make one or both of these edits, or at least provide some feedback. Thank you! AR at Issue One (talk) 14:52, 15 February 2023 (UTC)

ASPCA assistance

Hi! My name is Daysi, I am an employee of ASPCA, here to find editors who could help me get some updates made to the ASPCA article. I disclosed my conflict of interest, and am not going to make any direct edits to the article. I thought folks in this group may be interested in reviewing my request. Thanks for looking! Seeking Consensus on Quality- and Importance-Rating Changes

Hello, this is regarding the National Operating Committee on Standards for Athletic Equipment page. I performed a substantial revision of the page last year (2022) but it might have been ranked by this WikiProject before I completed it. Unsure. The article qualifies as a B-class on the quality scale according to Wikipedia:Content assessment/B-Class criteria 1-6. If editors believe the article contains irrelevant material, it should return to C-class until the extraneous material is removed. Please point out this material to me.
Regarding this article's importance ranking. It is now mid-importance on par with American National Standards Institute. Both groups write standards which have been adopted by the federal government or have had a substantive influence on federal regulations or guidelines. The National Operating Committee on Standards for Athletic Equipment, however, is more specialized than the American National Standards Institute. I look forward to your comments and assistance. My advance thanks! PatriciaBishop (talk) 21:15, 3 April 2023 (UTC)

Project-independent quality assessments

Quality assessments by Wikipedia editors rate articles in terms of completeness, organization, prose quality, sourcing, etc. Most wikiprojects follow the general guidelines at Wikipedia:Content assessment, but some have specialized assessment guidelines. A recent Village pump proposal was approved and has been implemented to add a |class= parameter to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, which can display a general quality assessment for an article, and to let project banner templates "inherit" this assessment.

No action is required if your wikiproject follows the standard assessment approach. Over time, quality assessments will be migrated up to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, and your project banner will automatically "inherit" any changes to the general assessments for the purpose of assigning categories.

However, if your project has decided to "opt out" and follow a non-standard quality assessment approach, all you have to do is modify your wikiproject banner template to pass {{WPBannerMeta}} a new |QUALITY_CRITERIA=custom parameter. If this is done, changes to the general quality assessment will be ignored, and your project-level assessment will be displayed and used to create categories, as at present. US Nonprofit EIN and flagging revocations

Is there any existing work to ensure US nonprofits have an associated EIN so that the EIN could be used to flag those appearing on the revocation list for US nonprofits and fix their status if/when they are reinstated? https://www.irs.gov/charities-non-profits/search-for-tax-exempt-organizations#revoke2 If not, is there any interest in a task force to work on US nonprofit infoboxes to ensure the tax_id field lists the EIN and the EIN is listed as the key value https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Property:P1297 on the associated Wikidata item? This ID would also help readers and editor to find more information about the organization's financials. Wolfgang8741 says: If not you, then who? (talk) 13:12, 19 May 2023 (UTC)

Discussion on NCORP vs GNG and the use of NMUSIC #5

Although originally started to discuss idiosyncrasies around NMUSIC #5 which defines the notability of musical albums, there's a considerable debate around the interrelation between GNG vs NCORP. Environmental Working Group - discussions need more editors!

I'm working on the Environmental Working Group where more editors would be appreciated to improve coverage of this Non profit organisation. The talk page has a couple of discussions that have reached a bit of an impasse and more editors could help move things forwards.

Thanks and see you there! {{u|Gtoffoletto}}talk 14:42, 27 July 2023 (UTC)

Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals branches

Currently, there are numerous branches and many of them are just purely terribly sourced and advertorial in nature. Some are so fluffy they're not even worth a merge and a straight re-direct will do. There are still many branch articles left and I am seeing if others have input on how to go about it. Which ones should be moved into Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals per WP:BRANCH and which ones are worthy of retaining as their own? Graywalls (talk) 08:02, 1 October 2023 (UTC)

Entrepreneurs of Knoxville

Could someone from this WikiProject take a look at Entrepreneurs of Knoxville and assess it per WP:NORG? It's been around for more than ten years, but it never seems to have had the WP:ORGDEPTH type of coverage that clearly establishes its Wikipedia notability. It also looks like members of the organization might have created the page and have been doing most of the editing. I removed a WP:NOTDIRECTORY-type section, but there's probably much more that needs to be done if notability can be established. -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:36, 17 December 2023 (UTC)

Help? RFC on Lifeboat Foundation

The organization Lifeboat Foundation seems questionable to me... I updated the article to add a note that they had their IRS nonprofit status revoked in 2020, which I confirmed on the IRS website.... It is unclear what it does with donations.[3] Should the whole article be revamped with a bit more... how do you deal with an organization when you aren't sure whether it is a scam or not? It looks like its talk page hasn't been touched in 11 years. Chadnibal (talk) 01:35, 7 February 2024 (UTC)
